RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - M T - 07-04-2023

These numbers (which is what so many people focus on) are mostly meaningless. They are probably linear with time on the court, so it does reflect the coach's evaluation.  Not much for defense, etc.

So I continue to look at +/-.  For the WNBA, it is available as +/- per 100 possessions.

For instance, Lexie's numbers don't tell her story well.  When I look at her numbers, it is concerning.
Her +/- per 100 possessions while she's on the court minus her team's +/- per 100 possession while she's not on the court is -15.9.  I don't think a team can sustain that long.

The same stat for Nneka is +21.0.  To show how you have to think about some of the stats, the WNBA leader in "Player Efficiency Rating" is A'ja Wilson, but her stat for +/- On-Off is just 3.5.

Others:
Karlie +6.2
Alanna +3.2
Chiney -6.2
Haley  +7.2
DiJonai  +12.8

RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - IM in OC - 07-17-2023

Karlie Samuelson to play for London Lions in the 23/24 season.

London Lions are in the "play in qualifier" stage for Euro League.  If they make it, they will play the toughest teams in Europe. If not, they will play in the Euro Cup League, also tough competition.

RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - mbdude - 07-23-2023

Alanna Smith in win over Seattle last night: 31 minutes, 9 pts, 17 rebounds (tied for high in league this season), 4stls, 3blks, 3 assists

RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - BACardinal - 07-25-2023

I didn't know this until they mentioned it on the ESPN broadcast of the Chicago Sky vs. Las Vegas Aces game but the Sky's head coach & GM is married to former Stanford player Kristen Newlin. She played professionally in Turkey where she met her husband. Newlin also played for the Turkish national team as a naturalized citizen.

RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - 2006alum - 08-23-2023

Happy to report that after a fairly desultory rookie season, Haley Jones exploded in last night's loss to the Aces, shooting 8/13, 1/2 3PT, 6/6 FT, along with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals, all with only one turnover. Interestingly, she is also averaging the most assists per 40 minutes of any rookie (6.5), and has a nearly 2:1 A:TO ratio, which is much better than she ever had at Stanford.

Here's hoping she's turning the corner and will become the pro we know she has the potential to become.

unfortunately, after the aces game, haley has 2 points in the last 5 games.

RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - PVTree - 09-03-2023

Lexi was a DNP - Coach's decision in her last game.

Will Brink give us a second reliable WNBA star player beyond Nneka (what happened to Chiney?)?

RE: WBB: Stanford WNBA - BobK - 09-03-2023

Lexi has been out for several weeks with a shoulder injury
Alana Smith out with a concussion
Chiney hasn’t been healthy for a long time
Karlie starts every game and doing great

May all our alums have desultory rookie seasons that result in them being named to the first-team all-rookie team.
