Megha Ganne is the story of the day. She finished up with a bogey-free 9 under 63! She posted 7 birdies and an eagle. She had a 3 putt par on her final hole or it would have been 62. As it is, 63 is a tournament record (previously held by Rose Zhang at 65).
Other Stanford-affiliated golfers:
Meja Ortengren 68 (-4)
Paula Martin Sampedro 69 (-3)
Andrea Revuelta 70 (-2)
Nora Sundberg 72 (even par)
Kelly Xu 72 (even par)
Nikki Oh 73 (+1) Stanford commit

What a great day for all of them! All 6 of those on our current roster are in the top 30. The top 30 get to play Saturday in the finals. Of course, things could be shaken up a lot in the second round tomorrow, but what a great day for all of them! And crazy to think we will only be able to use 5 of them in the NCAA tournament. Such a talented team.

Ganne stumbled a bit today. But other Stanford golfers moved up. 3 Stanford golfers are in the top 6 and 5 in the top 17 as play is wrapping up on day 2.
R2 standings:
T3. Ganne 63-73 -8
T3. Revuelta 70-66 -8
T6. Ortengren 68-69 -7
T12. Martin Sampedro 69-72 -3
T17. Sundberg 72-70 -2
T27. Xu 72-71 -1

Heck 75-73 +4
Oh 73-77 +6
Also a note for Spike - while only 5 golfers can play each day at NCAA tournaments, Stanford can bring 6 golfers. Substitutes are allowed each competition round.

This is a unprecedented and dominant Stanford performance in this tournament:
3rd, 3rd, 6th, 12th, 18th, and 27th.
Our previous best:
#20, 24, 24, and 28 last year,
3, 3, and 15 in 2021,
8, 12, and 27 in 2022,
and 1 and 9 in 2021.
Only South Carolina, with 6th, 6th and 18th,
and SMU, with 9th and 9th,
had more than one player advance today.
#2 ranked Arkansas suffered a crash:
no one advanced
and their top two players
finished at +6.
seven strokes from the cut.

The tournament winner Carla Bernat Escuder plays for Kansas State. Runner up was Asterisk Talley, a 16 year old from central California. I have not seen or read anything about her recruiting. She will be much in demand. She played today with Ganne so maybe they talked college golf at some point.

Got a 4.3 GPA, too, and her father talks about Rose Zhang as a role model. Between that, being from California, and being eager to be part of a team system, all signs point (albeit optimistically) to Stanford.

But whenever she wins there will be an asterisk by her name. :-)
"The asterisk, from Late Latin asteriscus, from Ancient Greek ἀστερίσκος, asteriskos, "little star", is a typographical symbol." Hope she becomes Stanford's little star.

The ACC tournament format mirrors the NCAA format, but it is even more intense.
The NCAA format is 72 holes of stroke play over 4 days followed by 2 days of match play covering the quarterfinals, semis and finals.
The ACC format is 54 holes of stroke play over
2 days followed by 2 days of match play covering the quarterfinals, semis and finals.
After today's 36 holes of play, Stanford sits in 1st place followed closely by Florida State. These teams have separated themselves from the field. Florida State has the #1 and #2 ranked women's amateurs in the world. They will be a tough out in match play. Stanford vs. Florida State head-to-head would be a much anticipated match.
But first there is tomorrow's final stroke play round which will also crown an individual champ. Match play begins on Friday.
Team results
1. Stanford -15
2. Florida State -12
3. Virginia -1
Individual results (Stanford)
1. Revuelta (welcome back!) -10 (67-67)
4. Martin Sampedro -5 (71-68)
T28. Xu +4 (79-69)
T28. Ganne +4 (71-77)
T28. Ortengren +4 (73-75)

If I'm reading the leader board correctly Stanford finishes 15 stokes over second place Florida State. Stanford played well. I don't know if the events on the FSU campus today had any impact on their team.
RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 -
Spiny_Norman - 04-17-2025
Stanford once again shows its depth. Paula Martin Sampedro really struggled today. She played 36 holes yesterday with 1 bogey and 1 double. Today she had 6 bogeys and 2 doubles and with an eagle on the final hole she broke 80 (she shot 78).
However here are the scores for the other 4 golfers today - 67 (Ortengren), 68 (Revuelta), 69 (Ganne) and 72 (Xu).
Stanford ran away from the field, winning the stroke play portion by 15 shots. With an eagle on the 18th hole, Andrea Revuelta won the individual title, beating Amanda Sambach of Virginia by 2 shots. She becomes the
4th Cardinal player to have won a tournament just this season.
Stanford now gets to rest tomorrow morning. They have a bye into the semifinals. They will face the winner of #4 seed Wake Forest vs. #5 seed North Carolina. On the other side of the bracket, Florida State awaits the winner of #3 seed Virginia and #6 Cal.

RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 -
Spiny_Norman - 04-18-2025
For the first time all season, Stanford has lost. Wake Forest defeated Stanford in a semifinal match today 3-2.
Paula Martin Sampedro and Andrea Revuelta both won pretty handily, 5&4 and 4&3 respectively. Kelly Xu got rolled by Wake Forest frosh Sandra Lydic 8&6. This was by far the most unexpected result. Xu is a top 25 played in the world. Lydic is not even in the top 1000. But Xu did not make a single birdie while Lydic did not make a single bogey.
So it all came down to the 2 most even matches, Megha Ganne vs. frosh Chloe Kovelesky and Meja Ortengren vs. soph Macy Pate. Ganne had a 3 up lead after 10 holes. But Kovelesky blitzed her over the final 8 holes with 4 birdies and an eagle on the last hole to win 2 up.
In the final pairing, Ortengren was never ahead against Pate. But she did pull all square at the 15th hole. Alas, Ortengren bogeyed 17 and then could not birdie 18. So Wake moves on the finals vs. Florida State.
