RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - 81alum - 11-05-2024

The presser.  Worth watching.  Tess expected back "soon."  After the exhibition, the emphasis was on improving defense, and that showed in last night's game.

By the way, last night I watched Tara in the stands.  Cam Brink attended and sat with Tara for a little while, with Amy for a little while.

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - martyup - 11-05-2024

From the Chron article:

“We might not be the tallest, and we might not be the fastest or the quickest,” Paye said. “But we’re going to be extremely unselfish and extremely physical and aggressive and tough.”

I love it!

For those interested, Gonzaga plays tonight at 6pm on ESPN+

In their first game Wazzu was pushed to OT against Eastern Washington. Wazzu won 83-82, shooting 38.0%--28.6%.

Hope Somfai sees this and says “ hmm I can play post”
The number of O boards are always a problem when you're hitting 50+%.   Shoot 33.3% (So. Carolina) and there should be more O-boards.
One should always look at the percentage of opportunities.

Le Moyne had 8 OR, 24 DR.   Stanford had 9 OR, 36 DR.
Stanford got 9/33 = 27.3% of the possible OR, and 36/44 = 81.8% of the possible DR.
(Unfortunately, those numbers include FT rebounds, which are clearly stacked against the offense.)
It is not a sensible measure, but I add the two percentages, giving 109.1%.
That's a strong percentage, but not totally dominating.

For comparison, So. Car. had 22/54 OR (40.7% impressive), 30/50 DR (60%, poor).   Combined, 100.7%.
In comparison  to the Stanford game, So.Car. -  Michigan  shooting was poor, resulting in about 25% more misses.

For your watching enjoyment, I've added this season's women's basketball to my Stanford sports Youtube channel. Click here to join the fun. (No, I don't make a dime or even a nickel on this channel.) (Yes the LeMoyne game includes several shots of Cam both with and without Tara.)

Playback seems to be at double speed. Am I doing something wrong?

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - acerep - 11-06-2024

I just posted my report on the game to the Fast Break Club site, www.stanfordfbc.org

As usual, the teaser shows the previous report, but if you click on it, you'll see the new report.

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - OCcardinal - 11-06-2024

I saw Raegan Beers is off to a hot start for Oklahoma after transferring from Oregon State. 21 points (8-11 FG) and 14 rebounds in 25 minutes vs Southern. Glad we don't have to face her in the ACC.  I'm not up to speed on all the ACC teams yet, but my general sense is they don't have the kind of bigs we faced in the P12 last season.

The ACC is definitely more of a guard-oriented league. The preseason all conference team has 8 guards, 1 guard/forward and 1 forward.

My guess is user error.  Works for me.  Hover over the video until the bottom menu appears.  Click the gear icon and look at "Playback speed."  Let me know if that works.  Thanks.

My small contribution to supporting at least a few Stanford sports. And you are welcome.

Thanks Spiny!  Saved me a lot of time to track that all down.  Looks encouraging.  I saw that Massey has our offense rated #4 in the country.  Small sample size, but I'll take it.  It'll be interesting to see how the ACC matchups pan out.  Hannah Hildalgo's difficult enough but at least she's not paired with Reagan.

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - BACardinal - 11-07-2024

Off topic… but if anyone is interested Hannah Jump and team GB are taking on Sweden in the EuroBasket qualifiers at 11:30am on youtube. I've posted the direct link to the game below.

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - martyup - 11-07-2024

#19 Florida State got beat by Illinois 83-74.  The Seminoles shot 39.7%-23.8%.  But Stanford isn't ranked.

Also, Harvard took down #25 Indiana in OT.  The Hoosiers shot 34.7%
16.7% (3-18).

Hey folks, let's keep the posts about the Wazzu game on the other thread.

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - martyup - 11-10-2024

Today the following ranked teams lost:

#11 Duke to #18 Maryland
#9 NC State to #1 SC

On Friday #21 Creighton lost to an unranked SD State.

AP poll is now out, and Stanford is no longer "unranked." The Card is now #24 -- with 98 points, just barely behind #23 Illinois which got 100

OK great news! Congrats to Coach P and the team, off to such an energized start.
Now we'll have to find some other Stanford sports injustice, problem, crisis or letdown, for which it makes our heads explode.
I'm sure something will pop up soon as there is no shortage of such, as discussed on these threads.

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - 81alum - 11-11-2024

We may have gotten Indiana's spot.  Indiana was 25 but just lost to Harvard in overtime.  And we play Indiana on Sunday.  They are going to be angry.

But no team that loses to Harvard can be any good, right?

RE: WBB -- 2024-2025 Season - martyup - 11-11-2024

We are still #1 in 3pt percentage with the largest number of attempts on the board.  We are now 45-78 (57.69%).   It will be interesting to see how our percentage falls when playing games on the road.

BTW, the Stanford record for made 3 point baskets is 320.  It was set in 2018-19.  We played 37 games in that season, so we averaged 8.65 three point baskets per game to set that record.  We are now averaging 15 made 3s.  I would say that there is a very good chance of breaking that record this season.

The NCAA season record for 3 point percentage is 47.3%, set by Fordham in 1990.  The NCAA record for 3 point shots made per game is 12.5, set by Sac St in 2015.  We are also on pace to break those records.
