RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 04-18-2025

Sigh. Okpara misses an easy volley to get back to 4-5, and she's lost the set. Xu still in it. It's windy out there today - definitely has an effect on the players serves.

UNC 3, Stanford 0.

Yepifanova falls 6-0 6-2. Driscoll falls shortly after. We need every court left.

Ma 6-3 1-3
Glozman 6-3 0-4
Driscoll 1-6 1-6
Xu 7-6
Okpara 3-6 1-2

It looks like no magic to be had today after yesterday's heroics

Glozman going to a third after getting swept aside in that second. Ma breaks to level in the second. Xu in control. Okpara aces to level at 3-3 on a deciding point

UNC 3, Stanford 0

Ma 6-2 4-4
Glozman 6-3 1-6
Xu 7-6 2-0
Okpara 3-6 3-3

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 04-18-2025

Ma gets pushed to a third, Glozman breaks to open her third set. Okpara in trouble.

Ma 6-2 4-6
Glozman 6-3 1-6 1-0
Xu 7-6 2-2
Okpara 3-6 3-4 15-40....

Okpara had a moment where I had hope - she broke back to 4-5, but squandered the chance on her serve. Quadruple Match Point for UNC. Saves one. Then double faults to give UNC the match.

UNC 4, Stanford 0. That's all she wrote for today, folks.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 04-28-2025

An oddity as I was perusing the rankings today. Alexis Blokhina is still ranked by the ITA despite not playing for Stanford this spring - and she checks in at #125 in singles. Alas, we won't have her services as we enter tournament season.

Stanford will travel to Lubbock as a part of Texas Tech's region. We'll open play in NCAA's against unranked Florida International (15-4) of the Conference USA. Florida International is a potentially tricky opponent to navigate. For comparisons sake, they beat Miami 4-0 & 4-3 (Miami was missing their #1 Alexa Noel and forfeited #6 in the first matchup, followed by just Alexa Noel the second go round). We should handle Florida International, but a much sterner test in Round 2 will be #11 seed Texas Tech (22-2). They've beaten the likes of #12 NC State and UC Santa Barbra, UCF, among others. Way back in February, Texas Tech took the doubles point along with wins at #5, #4, and #3 - it seems at a glance that they rely on winning the doubles and finding three from throughout their lineup - and I'd wager that they're a favorite or at least even on #3, #5, and #6 if we face them - so finding four will be a tough ask. That said, you really do have to like how this draw opens up for Stanford. Sure, we're not hosting, and we have a tough out against Texas A&M - but if you win that, you make a trip presumably to Michigan for the super regional where you have to battle against #6 Oklahoma with #3 Michigan or #14 Texas waiting on the other side if seeds hold. In an oddity this year - none of the teams from California are hosting. California, USC, Pepperdine, and UCLA along with Stanford will be navigating this tournament unseeded. Washington is the only former Pac-12 team to garner a seed - and they got rewarded with a #16 seed with California in their bracket close to a VERY good #1 Georgia squad. This year's journey with tempered expectations starts on Friday - I'm sure Colorado Tree has some additional insights to provide that I haven't caught.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - BobK - 05-02-2025

Stanford’s playing now. 1-1 in doubles. Sasha not playing doubles.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Spiny_Norman - 05-02-2025

Stanford loses the doubles point. They now have to come up with 4 singles wins to advance. I think 3 is very possible. 4 could be tough.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - BobK - 05-02-2025

Sasha is playing singles

Lorcan - Lorcan - 05-02-2025

In early going, looks like the top 3 will be comfortable. It’s going to be up to someone on the back 3 to find their way - and Sasha already down 3-0 and Xu has been broken.

We’re finding our way. Sascha up 5-3, first sets secured on the top 3, Xu battling back. It’s looking good for today, but concerning that we can’t take doubles against a team like FIU.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - BobK - 05-02-2025

Sasha with the come back winning the first set as did three others

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 05-02-2025

First sets on all six courts. It’s been a minute since we’ve been able to utter that. Ma gets us one, Glozman and Sascha seem to be close to following suit. Driscoll struggling in the second after such a promising start. Xu and Okpara finding their way.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - BobK - 05-02-2025

Stanford wins 4-1

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Spiny_Norman - 05-02-2025

For Stanford to advance beyond the round of 32, they really need to win the doubles point. And that's a tall order, especially since Stanford has not taken a doubles point against a higher ranked team all season.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 05-03-2025

We’re kicking off shortly - it’ll be curious to see how this goes. In news elsewhere, #70 Boise State won their first NCAA game since 2010 by knocking off #22 Baylor. So, upsets do happen. Here’s hoping that we can catch some magic today.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 05-03-2025

A massive doubles point goes Stanford’s way! Okpara and Shaffer clinch their win in #3, quickly followed by Ma and Glozman on one! Xu and Driscoll had just evened their affair up at 5-5 - excellent start for Stanford.

I’m out of pocket, but keeping an eye on things.

Glozman struggling so far, Xu down a break, but everyone else either up or even so far from what I can see. Ma coasting so far. Watching Sascha serve is tough knowing how she used to serve.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 05-03-2025

Ma and Driscoll secure their first sets and I absolutely love how Driscoll has come in and improved so much at Stanford.

Glozman breaks, serving to stay in the set, Sascha with the chance to serve hers out at 5-4, Xu and Okpara both down in their opening sets.

Sascha holds, and she’s got her first set. Xu and Okpara drop their first sets. Glozman at 5-5. Ma and Driscoll continuing to hold serve in the second.

Glozman wins her first, 7-6. Driscoll serves up a 6-0 second set and wins.

Stanford 2-0.

Ma on the cusp up 5-1. Looking good if Glozman or Sascha can win their second.

Ma makes it 3-0.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - cardfan77 - 05-03-2025

Stanford up 3-0. Sacha up a break in 2nd set. If she's able to keep her serve in then Sacha is looking like the clincher. Glozman up a set.

That's back to back Sacha was broken due to double fault. I wonder if she'll switch to underhand serving.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - Lorcan - 05-03-2025

Glozman clinches! 4-1 Stanford as Okpara fell. A good victory! Onwards!

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - cardfan77 - 05-03-2025

All right now!

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - magnus - 05-03-2025

Awesome!  Thanks for the updates.

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - scorecard - 05-03-2025

A little revenge on Texas Tech for poaching Nijaree Canady and David Bailey from us!

RE: Women's Tennis: Spring 2025 - TooMuchTV - 05-03-2025

OSU is down 1-2 to OU, but the 4 remaining matches are all in third sets. We play the winner.
