Inés Sotelo, a 6'3" current sophomore center from Michigan State, has committed to Stanford from the transfer portal.  So at least 2 upper classmen now.

6'3" at "Center?"

Sotelo played forward at Michigan State.

Makes sense.  I just referred to the position shown on her ESPN profile: Inés Sotelo Profile

In the meantime Stanford has picked up another 6'-3" forward: Ilse de Vries, sophomore from Miami (OH), who was a 4 star recruit from The Netherlands and had 12.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG and 1.9 BPG (24th in the country) last season. She earned a spot on the MAC All-Defensive team and 3rd team All-MAC honors. She picked Stanford over Iowa State and Kentucky.

Interestingly Inés and Ilse both have NCAA tournament experience (unlike any of Stanford's returners). Ilse had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks against West Virginia in Miami (OH)'s 1st round loss.  averaged 7 pts, 4.5 reb, and 2.0 assists in her 2 NCAA tournament games with MSU this season (against Colorado St. and Oklahoma). Inés also played in 2 NCAA tournament games her freshman season.

With these transfers next year's roster is up to 10 players (4 juniors, 3 sophomores and 3 income freshmen).

Impressed with de Vries.  Watched some of her videos at Miami Ohio.  Nice 3-point touch, excellent footwork, especially defensively.  I can see why she blocks a lot of shots.  What most impressed me is her ability to take a defender at the top of the key, use her Euro-moves and score inside.  Strong.  Reminds me of Somfai, but BETTER.  I believe that de Vries is the best player Stanford has acquired in the portal.

Think of a front line of: 6'3 Sotelo at the 3 position; 6'3 de Vries at the 4 and 6'5 Eschmeyer at the 5.  That is one heck of a front line.  All three are mobile, active.

Paye still needs a quality guard and possibly a wing- who can hit the 3 consistently.

RE: Class of 2027+ - pauloalto - 04-22-2026

Add two incoming transfers: Ilse de Vries and Ines Sotelo
and new commit Gracyn Gilliard

Without knowing whether Ngenda or Wheeler are college ready, this team still needs (at a minimum) a strong point guard who can bring the ball up under pressure and be a scoring threat as well as an experienced wing who can shoot for distance and take opponents off the dribble.  Any players who are limited to standing and shooting (only), should not be recruited. Those 2 additions would give the team 7 experienced players (12) total.  Hopefully, Paye will find multiple opportunities to give the other (5) meaningful minutes in the non-conference season.

More hopefully, we will see a different offense that can win games.

Interesting that she was Gatorade Player of the year in Indiana, led her team to a 29-0 record and a state championship and averaged almost 26 points a game. She still didn't make the national top 100 of recruits.

Impressed with Sotelo and de Vries.  Not that impressed with Gilliard and Tuhy.

Same, though they can shoot, and Gilliard looks like she might have a step back jumper. We still have room for speed and quicks.

RE: Class of 2027+ - qwerty49 - 04-23-2026

Can someone please refresh my memory? Are scholies for the duration, or are they now year-to-year? Would they ever be contingent on making the (first 15 spots on the) team?

And by “scholies” is that even relevant given the amount of NIL money now?

I think I might be starting to answer my own question but perhaps someone more knowledgeable can clarify.

It’s no longer scholarship limits, it’s roster spots.

https://www.collegesportscommission.org/roster-limits/

So the roster is limited to 15 players, and you can give as many partial or full scholarships as there are roster spots.

IIRC previously the Pac-12 guaranteed the scholarships for four years (even though that was not federally mandated) so my interpretation of the new world is that it is now year-by-year. Is this correct? Did not see a clear statement of this in the link.

With Kennedy Umeh's class corrected.
(Thanks and a tip of the hat to PVTree)

RE: Class of 2027+ - BobK - 04-24-2026

Love the chart. Thank you

RE: Class of 2027+ - PVTree - 04-24-2026

Is Kennedy Umeh redshirting again this coming year? She remains a sophomore this coming year and in 27-28.

You're right, PV, I erred. The chart is now corrected.

RE: Class of 2027+ - Spiny_Norman - 05-02-2026

ESPN has not ranked Stanford's incoming high school recruiting class among the top 25.

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/46920873/womens-college-basketball-recruiting-ranking-schools-class-2026

ACC teams in the top 25:
4. Duke
5. Notre Dame
10. North Carolina
12. Florida State
13. Clemson
19. Louisville
24. NC State
