I'd bet it isn't. Faking the fake girlfriend's Twitter account is such an obvious hack that there must have been dozens of jokers racing to do it.

Those of us who are old enough, at least, should probably have become suspicious when the N.D. SID insisted that his named wasn't pronounced "TAY-O", it was pronounced  "THIGHS-man"...

The Sports Illustrated writer's transcript is pretty interesting.. Te'o shares quite a tale.  If you believe Te'o/ND's side of the story, the actors on the other end had basically full-time jobs, day and night working this hoax.  There had to be multiple men and women involved.  Very, very hard to believe Te'o didn't invent most of this stuff, in my opinion. 

There is a Stanford wrinkle I hadn't heard below.. seems our media relations guy was suspicious and caused the S.I. writer to remove any reference to Stanford.

Validation: The Daily Show leads off with... - Redrum - 01-17-2013

You guessed it.  Not direct reportage or whatever it is they do.  Just an opening  riff with a few references without any names, but EVERYBODY in the audience got it.

AND they worked it again while riffing on the We The People petition site hosted by the White House.  After commenting on the Death Star petition and the Deport Piers Morgan petition,  John Stewart announced the people, the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert should aim for getting 100,000 signers in a petition to get everyone in America an imaginary internet girlfriend.

Agreed.  It's hard to spend any time on the Farm without developing critical thinking skills.  Apparently it's possible to spend 4 years at this Notre Dame without developing any.

Does any remember if he was actually admitted?  I know Stanford was in the running, but wasn't among the finalists.

Te'o was admitted to Stanford. Stanford was one of his top five schools (along with NotreDame, U.S.C., UCLA, and BYU). When Te'o made his official visit to Stanford, he gave the coaching staff his commitment to Stanford. Obviously, he didn't follow through on that commitment.

Manti apparently had an image of his fake girlfriend through photos.  Now it comes out that those photos were of an actual woman:  Diane O'Meara, a 23 year old woman from Torrence, CA:
