Belardi & Vincent are the AVCA Pair of the Week:

New poll tomorrow.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 02-27-2024
n the AVCA coaches poll, Stanford goes from #7 to #2, with 9 first place votes (same as UCLA).
Highest ranking ever.
ETA: I believe this is the first time Stanford has gotten first place votes.

CBVB's media poll puts Stanford at #3:

TruVolley's computer ranking puts Stanford at #4.

Alumna Charlie Ekstrom is playing in a FIVB "Futures" (development) event in Australia with Delaney Peranich (from Half Moon Bay). They won their two qualifier matches to make the main draw. First match of Pool B, thy took down the #2 seed, 21-19, 21-19.
I believe that ensures they will reach the knock-out round ("modified pool play").
http://www.bvbinfo.com/Tournament.asp?ID=4343&Process=Matches
ETA: they lost their second pool match, advanced to the elimination round. Won their firt, lost their second, end tied for 5th.

Not able to attend the home matches this weekend. I see Belardi & Vincent moved up to the 3s for the match with TCU, and suffered their first loss. Stanford won 3-2.

They take on UCDavis and SJSU today, weather permitting.
Those should be easy wins.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-05-2024
Stanford remains at #2 in the coaches poll (only 7 first place votes this week); #3 in the CBVB poll, and #4 in TruVolley rankings.
Friday they battle UCLA (again) and ASU; Saturday it is Cal and Oregon; all in Tempe.
Broadcast on Pac-12 Washington, for some reason.
They return home the following weekend.

Today's BVB match between #2 Stanford and #1 UCLA is on the PAC-12 channels (Wash. at 1PM, replay on LA at 4:30PM)
I'm glad I noticed so I can record it and watch it maybe late tonight.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
Jamesy - 03-08-2024
Stanford up 2-1, and 2 points away from winning the match at court 1!
Stanford beats UCLA 3-1!
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-08-2024
Stanford beats #1 UCLA 3-2, but then falls to #10 ASU 2-3 (after a lightning delay).
The 4s and 5s won, but the 1s, 2s, and 3s got beat. (1s wer swept 21-18, 21-11!)
Hope they can knock off #7 Cal and Oregon tomorrow.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-09-2024
Stanford swept both Cal and Oregon, losing only one set.
Stanford's 1s, Hodel & Rockwell, seem to struggle a little in their second sets.
I expect Stanford will get a good number of first place votes this week. Maybe enough to actually put them in first, but the loss to ASU hurts.
UCLA swept ASU, Oregon and Washington.
ASU plays Cal and Arizona tomorrow.
USC swept Utah, play UW tonight, and UA and UO tomorrow.
Stanford is home with North Florida and TAMU-CC Friday, and then has ten days off.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-12-2024
I did not expect Stanford to fall to #3.

First place votes split four ways.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

A beautiful day at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Courts.
Stanford swept North Florida, though the Ospreys did not go easily. Several sets went to extra points, and the 3s went three sets.
Stanford had a slightly different line-up. Previously Belardi & Vincent had played at the 4s, and then moved up to the 3s. They have now been split, with Belardi & Hoffman at the 3s and Harvey & Vincent at 4s.
ETA: Actually, the 3s, 4s and 5s got shuffled.
Old: Belardi/Vincent, Hoffman/Reilly, Jarvey/Stowell. New: Belardi/Hoffman, Harvey/Vincent, Reilly/Stowell.
The Cardinal (which I had to explain to some UNF fans, is the color, not the bird) beat TAMUCC 4-1, the 4s dropping their match for the first time.
(Given how easily the 1s, 2s, and 3s won, one wonders about sandbagging. ETA: I checked other TAMUCC duals, and I don't see anything suspicious. So just a bad match up for Stanford.)
The UNF Ospreys may have had the biggest fan contingent there. Not brobdingnagian, but the place was noticeably emptier when they were done.
I did say hello to Emmy Sharp, who confirmed she plans to be back next year.

UCLA is hosting the "East Meets West" tournament this weekend. FSU finally went up against some top-10 schools, losing both to Cal and UCLA. Cal lost to LSU. I expect FSU will lose its first place votes. I don't know if Stanford will capture enough of those to move up.
USC beat #5 TCU in Florida.
Next week's poll, not much change in the top 3. USC and UCLA battle for first, with Stanford close behind.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-19-2024
Stanford gains a few points, loses a couple of first place votes and stays at #3. USC solidified hold on #1; I guess they picked up most of FSU's first place votes from last week.
https://www.avca.org/polls-awards/polls/?_season=2024&_divisions=national-collegiate-womens-beach&_weeks=week-4
Stanford has the week off, so probably the same ranking next week. (Though they play unranked USF and SMC on Monday, 3/25.)
Then they travel to Louisiana to match up with #16 FAU, #8 LSU, #5 FSU and #4 TCU on Friday and Saturday 3/29 & 3/30.
There's some real competition.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-25-2024
Stanford had an easy time with USF, and a pretty easy time with SMC; didn't drop a set:
https://gostanford.com/news/2024/3/25/beach-volleyball-no-3-cardinal-starts-six-match-week-off-with-two-sweep-wins.aspx
USF didn't reach double-digits in several sets. SMC's 1s were pretty good. That pair includes Hawley Harrer, daughter of the coach, and former pro-beach player Janice Opalinski Harrer. I believe one of Stanford's points in the first set was mistakenly scored for SMC; it didn't matter in the end.
Friday they take on #16 FAU and #8 LSU at LSU; and then #4 TCU and #5 FSU on Satruday. Hoping that goes well.

Free streaming on VBTV (volleyballworld.com), according to the article.
Some very early starts for Stanford: 7am and 6am PDT.

Stanford swept the FAU Owls. Takes on LSU in a couple of hours.
ETA, Stanford also swept the Tigers, but the 1s and 2s went three sets.
Bigger challenges tomorrow, vs. #4 TCU and #5 FSU.

Kate Reilly broke Charlie Ekstrom's Stanford record for career wins. She is at 83 in 3.5 seasons. In principal, she could hit a 100, with a good run through the Pac-12 and NCAA tournaments.
