These matthews strikes are low. I think the Ump is trying to save Quinn's arm.

Yes! Should be 2-0 and a ticket to Omaha, but I guess that's just not our way.

QUINN MATHEWS = God
I just hope he has anything at all left for Omaha if we get there. After doing 156 pitches tonight, his arm is going to be a tube of glue for all of this coming week.

Quinn: "My stuff's not that good..."
"I probably got three outs in me tomorrow."
LOL classic Stanford attitude.

I respect Quinn's effort and determination and single handedly willing the staff tonight. But if there was any indication
how poor the development of pitchers by the staff has been this season, Quinn having to throw a CG 160 pitches is Exhibit A.
I hope Stanford wins tomorrow so that effort by Quinn is rewarded with another trip to Omaha.

LOL classic Stanford attitude.
Announcers: “Your spikes won’t be in your locker tomorrow, I guarantee you.”
Mathews: “I’ll keep them in my backpack with my glove.”
He’s funny too. Love this kid.

When the pitching coach made his mound visit, Quinn said (I read his lips): "I'm staying."
He said in the postgame that the Eager then said, "Let's have an adult conversation."
Quinn said, "I'm getting this kid out" (he probably used more colorful language), and then walked off the back of the mound away from the group.
Eager said, "That's not much of an adult conversation, Quinn."
I really like this kid.
Seriously, that was a legendary performance. We'll be talking about that game as one of the greatest pitched in Sunken Diamond history.

I really, really hope tonight and the last week plus don’t come back and have a long-term detrimental impact on Quinn. With that being said, what an absolute warrior he is. One of the most memorable performances I’ve ever seen from a Stanford athlete.
MiniBlueHawkCard said it more eloquently than I ever could earlier today, but this is a special team and tonight was the perfect encapsulation of that. As much as they’ve made me pull out my hair with the walks, errors, etc., no one can ever question this team’s collective heart. Whether they lose tomorrow night or end up being the last team standing in Omaha, tonight was why players play the game and why we as fans are so compelled to watch. Quinn’s performance tonight and over the last week will live in Stanford lore for a long, long time.

This team just continues to fight and hopefully their fight is rewarded with a trip to Omaha.
Quinn Mathews performance is unbelievable and will go down as one of the best, if not the best.
Hopefully we will see the Tommy Troy that we have become accustomed to especially during playoffs. He only has 1 hit so far in the supers. We need Alberto Rios’ bat to come alive as well. We need as many runs as possible to help our pitching.
Who starts tomorrow? Dugan, Uber, Scott?

Uber and Scott have been disastrous. Also, I renounce my statement on texas fans. They were calling for tommy john surgery and "career ruined" after the game. Some are insufferable.

Agree with the hope that The Mighty Quinn is rewarded with a trip to Omaha.
However, he was pitching very well and had not lost any velocity or control through the entire game, including the 8th and 9th. He has shown that he can pitch a lot of innings and throw a lot of pitches (relative to today's pitchers). When our stopper completely fell apart due to last night's ever tightening strike zone, there is nothing wrong with letting Mathews finish the epic game he started. Krukow and Kuiper talk a lot about the way pitchers are hurt by not letting them throw and build up their strength when they are still young and strong. I was very carefully watching Quinn's velocity and control and he simply had the strength to pitch a truly old-fashioned complete game.
Not every pitching decision should be seen as an indictment of the pitching coach. Also, sometimes the shortcomings in a pitching staff are simply due to the shortcomings of the pitchers. Coaching can obviously help in some situations, but it is nearly impossible for outsiders to know whether any issues with the team are due to coaching deficiencies or recruiting/talent deficiencies. It may be that the pitching coaches need to change but I don't think allowing Quinn to complete his masterpiece is meaningful, much less "exhibit A."
Hope they can get it done tomorrow. This entire team and coaching staff deserve it.
Cheers,
Pete F.

Even Go Stanford sometimes gets it wrong (see second comment) but it’s Mathews with one “T” (and 16Ks). :)
