No to both.

Garrison Hearst. Hugh McIlhenny. Wendell Tyler.
No to all 3.
Hints -- He is the ONLY 49er ever to lead the NFL in rushing.  He did it 3 times.

You got it! "The Jet" led the league way back in 1949, '53, & '54.

1949? Amazing.

Dennis Eckersley (sp?) and no clue

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - BobK - 12-10-2023

Eck is one

Eck and Smoltz are correct

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - Mick - 12-11-2023

What four men played in the MLB postseason in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - BobK - 12-11-2023

Willie Mays for one

You are correct, sir. One more ex-Giant, a well-traveled pitcher (former Dodger) and an ex-Tiger.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - BobK - 12-11-2023

Hoyt Wilhelm
Hmm Frank Howard

Hmmhh .... Phil Niekro has five All-Star games across three decades but his All Star appearances may be 60s/70s/80s.

(Edit:  Just checked and, yup, he came up in the early 60s so doesn't qualify per Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a bit vague about whether his teams made the playoffs in the 70s. He was on the Braves prior to the start of their run so probably not.)

That's a timely hint that may not work NEXT year.  SF RB and former Stanford phenom Christian McCaffery has a 300 yard lead over 2nd place Derrick Henry for the NFL Rushing title as we near the end of the 2023 regular season.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2023 - Mick - 12-11-2023

Norm Cash is correct. Also Don McMahon played for the Braves in the '57 and '58 WS, the Tigers in the '68 WS and the Giants in the 1971 NLDS.

And Stan Williams is the last, having pitched for the Dodgers in the '59 WS, the Yankees in the '63 and '64 WS and the Twins in the 1970 ALCS.

Which raises the question - who was McMahon’s Pro Football HOF classmate at Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn?

Al Davis

I've been reading that Brock Purdy can't possibly be a great quarterback since he has just one 4th quarter comeback. So...which quarterbacks have the most career 4th quarter comebacks? There are four Stanford grads in the Top 60...
