That was a nail-biter.
Tied 2-2, it came down to a three-set match for the 5s. FSU led early, but after tying at 7-all, Stanford pulled ahead 9-7. Then it was all side-outs until 13-11, when Stanford scored off their serve. But FSU scored three straight to tie it again (14-14). Fortunately, Stanford was able to get two and finish it 16-14.

A great weekend for Stanford BVB.
#1 USC was upset by #10 LSU.
Stanford's next dual is against USC in Seattle, Friday at 11:00am PDT.

Will it be enough to jump USC in the poll?

I think there is about a 50/50 chance Stanford moves to #2 this week, behind UCLA at #1, and USC falls to #3.
Maybe better than 50/50. But Stanford will have to win next weekend (USC, UW, UU, UA) to hold that spot.
ETA: Stanford won't get another crack at UCLA until the Pac-12 Championship.

Stanford edged out USC by one point for second place in the AVCA poll. Back to #2, with five first place votes.

There goes second place...
Stanford falls 4-1 to USC.
Belardi & Hoffman beat the Nourses.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

Beat Washington 4-1.
All five matches went three sets.
They seem to be struggling a bit in the cold and windy northwest.
Tomorrow Utah at 9:00am and Arizona at 11:00am.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

Stanford's #1 team, Hodel/Rockwell, sat out the Utah dual. Stanford still swept 5-0, though the 2s had to hold off a match point and force a third set. Most of the matches weren't close.
Hodel & Rockwell are back for the Arizona dual, now underway.
ETA: Stanford gets the 5-0 sweep of Arizona, though everybody but the 5s took three sets.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

Stanford rested some starters, but still got the 5-0 sweep of USF.
However, I wonder if they should have rested their 1s?
I was able to go down to campus for the first round of matches. Stanford started slow, but easily won the 2s and 4s.
https://gostanford.com/news/2024/4/10/beach-volleyball-no-3-stanford-sweeps-dons.aspx
I checked the live stats later, and was surprised to see the 1s going three sets. Stanford won the first set easily, as you would expect (21-8). They lost the second 20-22, and then had to hold off several match points in the third, before pulling it out 21-19. Not sure USF's 1s are that good, or if one of the Stanford players had a minor injury that was hindering them.

Only dropped one set against Arizona. Quite windy; they had to furl or take down the umbrellas.
Maybe their fastest dual ever, against UoP later this afternoon. Pacific had to forfeit at the 5s, so they ran the other four matches simultaneously, and Stanford swept. It was over in little more than half an hour. And that was resting their usual 1s and 3s.

In other news, next year's freshman Ivanna Rivera played in the qualifier for an FIVB event in Guadalajara, but lost in the first round.
And sophomore Daria Gusarova's younger sister Alexandra (Sasha) played in an FIVB "Futures" (development) event in Tahiti, and took bronze. (It was not even a full field for this event; only ten teams entered). But I wonder if she is considering Stanford (and vice versa).

Logan Tusher (2024 incoming freshman) posted a photo on IG of her and two fellow Absolute Volleyball Club members.
Kinnari Atluru is also wearing a Stanford shirt. Not sure if she is also a beach recruit or indoor. Guessing a beach walk-on.
ETA: Can't find any evidence of her playing beach, so maybe an indoor walk-on.

Stanford swept GCU, and then Cal swept Washington at Stanford today.
Then the final dual of the day, Stanford vs. Washington, got started about an hour late (4pm instead of 3pm), with the 2s, 4s and 6s (exhibition match). The 2s and 4s went three sets, with the 4s being one of the longest beach matches I have ever seen. I didn't note the exact time, but it was over 90 minutes, with Stanford finally pulling out the win: 22-24, 23-21, 39-37. A total of
166 points. Both teams had many match points (of course), though I think UW had more.
Two matches (the 6s and 3s) were completed on court 3 before the 4s finished on court 2.
Stanford ended up recording another sweep.

One Stanford player has her foot in a boot. I think it was Maya Harvey. That would explain why she hasn't played since April 6th.

Next up: Pac-12 tournament, in Tempe, AZ.
Last year I would have given their odds of winning the Pac-12 as about 2-4%.
This year I say they're about 20-25%.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

Apparently the team is already in Tempe. I assume seeding will be announced tomorrow.
Last year Stanford was seeded #4, behind UCLA, USC, and Cal. Can't be lower than #3 this year, though I don't know what criteria are used.
The NCAA bracket will be announced Sunday, 4/28, at 8:00am PDT, on NCAA.com
