Looks like Patrick Bailey was promoted to Sacramento.
Wish they’d move Luciano off short. Not a great position for a guy with back problems. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald to Sacto. Playing SS. Schmitt playing 2b. Giant committed to turning him into a utility infielder.

Didn't Schmitt win a MiLB Gold Glove playing 3B? I know it sounds crazy, but why not groom him to be the every day 3B?

Both Schmitt and Bailey won MiLB Gold Gloves, all the more impressive because only one Gold Glove per position was awarded for
all of the minor leagues
in toto. It wasn't a league-by-league award. Congrats to Farhan for his selections.
And speaking of Giant catchers, the other Giants catcher -- you know, the one starting for the big club -- may have been the answer all along, at least according to SJ Mercury News reporter Evan Webeck:
https://www.mercurynews.com/2023/05/04/was-joey-bart-the-sf-giants-answer-at-catcher-all-along? His hitting has improved to .302, his strikeout rate has declined to just a little above league average, Cobb is praising him, Kapler says he has improved in every facet of his game. He ranks 11th in controlling opponents' running game this year, compared to 45th last year. His framing ranks in the 98th percentile.

Luciano hit an HR in his second game with Richmond.

Bart is playing well. Having said that nothing Kapler ever says means a darn thing to me. “Gabe speak.” Obviously flows down through his coaches as well. Read Susan Slusser‘s column on the bullpen today and take a look at Andrew Bailey’s quote. Id copied if I could. They speak in tongues.

Schmitt called up. He will start at SS tonight. To make room on the 40 man, Ruf was DFA’d. To make room on the 26, Stevenson was sent to Sacramento.

Will Schmitt stick? And when Crawford returns from IL, does Schmitt move to 3rd, or get sent to Sac?

If he keeps it up, for sure. Villar has had lots of chances. If the Giants can figure out how to play Casey 60% of the time, Villar will go down.
Crawford hasn't looked 100% since beginning of season for starters.

Folks, a quotation starts with a quote tag and ends with a /quote tag. If you try to use /quote at both start and end, it doesn't work, and it gets even worse if someone quotes your post.

Be interesting when Crawford returns. But no way JD Davis is going anywhere. He’s playing a terrific 3b and is a very good hitter
I do wonder if this means Crawford is hurt worse than reported. They aren’t calling Schmitt up for a week or two….

Two for four with an HR. Like Will Clark and Brandon Crawford, he homered in his first MLB game. And he fielded his only chance cleanly. Very nice.

Crawford will be back on Thursday. I would guess that he will platoon with Schmitt.
I agree that Davis is solid at 3B. He has been a revelation this year with the glove. Add to that Estrada and Wade on the right side of the diamond and you have a pretty good INF.

Another hamstring "tightness" for Slater. Can't catch a break. Was hitting the ball hard. Is he lifting too much...or something?
Correa hitting .185 and was booed by fans last night. Giants dodged a bullet. Schmidt better right now than Correa. Future better with Schmidt.

Correa will be fine. Slow start. Like a lot of players.
Slater gets a lot of stains and pulls. Hard to know why. Some players just do. Tight muscled I guess.

Hope you are right re Correa. He seemed like an ok guy. We'll see... Manea threw some real meatballs today. If that slider breaking down to the right foot is too high and/or too lax, it gets hit hard.
RE: OT: Giants 2023 thread -

Manea DFA watch has begun…
How do you justify platooning 36 yo Crawford with 23 yo Scmitt? Don’t give me the R/L crap. Schmitt shows promise of being a great MLB hotter and that requires seeing the best RHP around. Moreover he’s now better in the field and way faster than Crawford.
Playing Schmitt over Crawford is a no-brainer. Playing Crawford over Schmitt is brainless.

Manaea is done. Stripling is 33, also appears to be done. Bring on Junis and Harrison.

Man you have a quick hook. It’s early May. Both should get a few more starts. If by June 1 this is still the case, then maybe moves are made.
Harrison hasn’t gone more than 4. Need to stretch him out before he comes up. Junis is a swing guy. Not a true starter. Wood back soon, he will help.
Giants paid Manaea and Stripling a lot of money. They are going to give them a sufficient chance -at least they should. Course, you may be right. They may decide instead to go bullpen games, piggy back and all the other bullish-t that Kapler and Co like to do.
