RE: Class of 2022 - BostonCard - 10-14-2021

(10-14-2021, 05:51 PM)TrumpCard Wrote:  Stanford's 2022 class is shaping up pretty well, but if you want to feel bad about how things are going, per 247's rankings, Ohio State has no current commits with fewer than 4 stars, Clemson's only recruit with fewer than 4 stars is a kicker, and < 20% of Alabama's class has fewer than 4 stars.  The uber elite teams that consistently get to the playoff just recruit in a different world from Stanford, and I don't see that getting better with the NIL deals now happening.

We inadvertently helped Alabama keep its 3* ratio low when we got Hawkins' commitment.  He had a reported Alabama offer (though we flipped him for Florida, so I am thinking its unlikely he would have gone to Alabama).

I wonder a little bit if this is self-reinforcing.  As confident as guys are in their abilities, if you are a three star player, and are recruited to Ohio State, Alabama, or Clemson, and see that in your class there is a 5* player and the class two years before you there are two 4* players sitting on the bench because the freshman 5* player was recruited over them, do you maybe wonder whether a different school would give you a better chance?

Looks like he could be an exciting addition to DB room - would love to see him play some kind of rover role (SS) where he can come down and play near to line of scrimmage but also drop back and play more traditional ball hawking safety (FS) on passing situations - seems like a dynamic player... TWII and Kamari Ramsey could be an exciting backend combo...

Really hope this class is part of rebuild of Defense as we seem to lack dynamic players at all 3 levels (Kyu notwithstanding).... excited about ECIV (DL) and Tafiti (LB)... fingers crossed Bailey joins the party and both Aybar and Armitage (2021) can give us a foundation of a couple of impact players at DL,LB and DB...

Bailey just got on offer from Oregon.

RE: Class of 2022 - TrumpCard - 10-21-2021

I've been a little rough on the Ashton Daniels.  He's completing 65% of his passes and is gaining yards a rate of better than 10.5 YPA with 7 TDs against 2 INTs.  Of course, I still raise an eyebrow when I see that he gets only 10 attempts per game and splits time with another QB.  But looking at the stats posted by the two QBs, I don't see any rational basis for the coach to use both QBs, unless he just wants to get experience for the younger player at the potential cost of losing games.  That doesn't address the fact that Daniels didn't receive a single other P5 offer, but it at least addresses one concern.  Here are the individual stats for the team, including the passing and rushing stats for both QBs:

I like Daniels quite a bit. First of all, he plays in a very run-heavy offense, almost like a De La Salle approach to offense. He's a very good athlete who can move, avoid pressure, and throw on the run--something Stanford has not seen since Kevin Hogan.

His back-up, a 6-4 junior, is also a very good athlete with probably a little more straight line speed than Daniels. He's listed as a 3 Star on Rivals with a few offers, the top one being from East Carolina at this point.

Daniels is a sleeper, for sure, but I can see why the staff decided to offer him. He also must have had a great workout when he was on campus. Former Recruiting Coordinator, Dave Tipton, said that "absolutely" the best way to evaluate a prospect is to work them out in front of the staff.

I saw former 4 Star and Stanford QB Keller Chryst play 6 times in person while he attended PALY. I never liked his game. While he was big, fast, and had a great arm, he lacked pocket mobility and improvisational instincts, traits that Kevin Hogan had in abundance.

I'm more excited about the collegiate potential of Daniels than I was for Chryst. I would also include Ryan Burns and Jack West in that conclusion.

RE: Class of 2022 - TrumpCard - 10-21-2021

Chryst may not have been a great runner, especially post ACL, but how many QBs can do this:

I think it's really underappreciated how much the ACL tear affected Keller's game. Never looked the same to me after.

Berkeley Prep (Stanford commit TE C.J.Hawkins) plays against Arch Manning and Isidore Newman High in Louisiana on Geico High School Football showcase on ESPNU  tonight at 6pm PDT. You can hopefully see what CJ and Arch would bring to Stanford.

RE: Class of 2022 - Spiny_Norman - 10-22-2021

Does this mean anything? Or is it just a recruit reinforcing his interest in Stanford?

RE: Class of 2022 - TrumpCard - 10-22-2021

Daniels’ team won 56-0 and Daniels was player of the game but I don’t see stats yet.

RE: Class of 2022 - mbdude - 10-22-2021

2 Stanford assistants at Arch Manning's game

RE: Class of 2022 - TrumpCard - 10-23-2021

The tweet from Reuben is not a commitment. He’s visiting KU this weekend: https://mobile.twitter.com/JayhawkSlant/status/1451927858100809731

But the signs still point West.

It won't last, but.....
KU has a 10-0 lead against the Sooners in Q2.

Another DL reinforcement on the way.

RE: Class of 2022 - martyup - 10-24-2021

Flipped from cal.  Love it. It will be a great pleasure to watch him drill cal QBs in the future.

Listed at 260 . . . would love to hear someone say he can play NT, but seems more suited to DE

I can picture fans yelling "excusez moi" after his sacks :)
