My guess is the odds of a generic #1 seed making the final 4 is something like 50/50. And my guess is Stanford is a bit better than that.
The P12 is clearly the best conference in volleyball this year and we are looking like we will be 19-1. That is pretty impressive. They haven't all looked great and getting swept at home was a blip, but only Nebraska has looked better this year.
I think the bull case for Stanford this year is that we are an experienced team that has played in big games and knows what that feels like. We also seem to be able to up our game when it really matters. After getting swept by UF you had to wonder if this was a championship team. Going to Austin and sweeping UT suggests to me that when it really matters we have another level.
Kipp is also the kind of player that can just carry you to a title. Last year she had a swing to beat USD and didn't put it down. The only reason to return to Stanford for a fifth year is to get that swing again.....

BigJohn, you are a long-time, knowledgeable WVB fan. I hope you are correct. In the last four matches I'm just not seeing the ability of this Cardinal team to play consistently at a high level throughout an entire match. Hopefully the team catches fire under the bright lights of the tournament.
First set vs Utah, Stanford up 10-5. Baird with two aces, nice. Everything looking good so far.
Stanford up 19-8. Utah is actually playing pretty well. It's just that Stanford is playing really well.
Stanford wins first set.
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 11-22-2023
In set 2 Utah up 9-5. Three of Stanford's five points were Utah service errors.
Pringle getting her serves in and Stanford scoring points. Stanford up 16-14 in set 2.
Stanford wins set 2. Utah had at least six service errors.

Set 2 a little tougher. Utah having trouble adjusting to the higher barometric pressure.
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 11-22-2023
Stanford up 7-3 in set 3.

Now 12-3, 9 in a row.

Midway through set 3; I'm predicting Stanford wins this match.

Heads up. Belardi and Harvey in the game.

Easy win the big stat 10 service aces 3 service errors
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 11-22-2023
Utah fell apart in set 3. Harvey and Belardi make a brief appearance. Harvey looked good on the service line. Francis on top of her game.

I'm a computer professional, but video streaming is a new area to me.
I think screen capture would work for me (I've tried it briefly), but capturing directly is theoretically best to keep the original resolution and frame rate. The video looks great on my captures -- and the audio too when it's there.
Please keep us updated on your progress.
I studied some more documentation and did some experiments, and I've learned more. I don't have a confirmed way yet of making sure that audio doesn't drop out after the inserted commercial, but I have a couple of possible workarounds that look promising. It's hard to debug this issue because it only occurs on active livestreams where Pac-12 chooses to insert a commercial, and they don't always insert one. So I can only experiment during livestreams, and sometimes not even then. While I was experimenting today, I managed to capture
almost all of the Utah match. It has sound, but it seems like that's because I got lucky and Pac-12 didn't insert the commercial.
Edit: After thinking I'd only captured most of the match, I discovered I could actually reach back in time and download the early part of the stream that I had missed. So I've fixed my copy to be complete and am re-uploading to YouTube.
It will be here when YouTube is finished processing it. As usual, a lo-res version will appear first, so if you get that, wait for the hi-res version.

Right now it's complicated and messy for a couple of reasons, but I'll work on improving that. You're right that this thread isn't the best place to discuss it. Maybe we can start a separate one. Not tonight anymore though. :-)

I hear you. OTOH, we did win those matches. It is very hard to play at a high level for all 30 games of the season. For the tournament the question is what teams can really raise their level of play when it matters.
I almost think 2016-2019 made Stanford fans unrealistic. Very few teams are as good as those teams where. I think most believe that we are one of 8-10 teams with a real chance to win the tournament and probably only trail Nebraska as the favorite. I would rather have our experienced team that the younger team at Nebraska despite the fact that they have clearly played better than we have.

Final match of the regular season tonight at 7:00pm against Cal. Five players graduating including three starters who will be difficult to replace. Tufuga will probably start for a few plays or get in the first set at some point.

Cal is 5-14 in conference which is better than last year when they were winless. The Cal head coach unexpectedly quit (should have been fired) three weeks before fall practice. Without time to do a job search Cal promoted an inexperienced AC to interim head coach who has done amazingly well IMO. Nonetheless this should be a match for Harvey and Belardi to get playing time. I sure would like to see Blyashov to get a preview of next year but that's unlikely.
Nebraska is playing at Wisconsin at 1:00 pm today.
