While the Williams situation certainly has me questioning how deep Stanford could go in Omaha, yesterday was not a total disaster for the Card. Pitching was spared for the most part, UConn had to use their closer (and watch a lot of balls leave the yard) and Brock Jones is back! UConn has their ace ready to go after 150+ pitches last weekend. He, like Williams, had lots of deep 100+ pitch outings this year. Scoring early and often will be necessary. Once again Stanford has an interesting decision as to when to us Matthews. Hopefully Dixon (if he's the starter today) can have a quality outing and give the bats a chance to create some separation.

Pitching has never been a strength of this team, the bat has been what got us where we are.  I wonder if any team has ever hit 8 home runs in a game and lost.  Williams has pitched some gems for us, but against better hitting teams, he has not done so well.  Have we leaned on his arm too much this season.  Lets hope the pitching committee is ready to go today.

My guess is that Williams’s arm is very tired. He’s thrown a lot of pitches this year.

Tickets procured. Thanks and Go Cardinal!

Lot of missed opportunities early on (esp in the second inning) that could have made a difference.  But those UConn bats were hot tonight, and Alex Williams didn't have the stuff for whatever reason.  I wasn't sure about some of the pitching substitutions by the coaches...Cody Jensen was excellent in relief, and I think he should have come in earlier.  Hope the pitching staff is ready to make a stand tomorrow.

I actually hadn't planned on going to the game.  I'm in the area for unrelated reasons, and it just so happened that I was lucky enough to schedule this and buy actual paper tickets off of someone selling near the box office.  Many stars aligned for me; they did not align for the Stanford bats and pitching early in the game.  Wish I could have met everyone on the board who was at the game in person.

Do or die tomorrow.

I have been to many games this season and since Esquer has taken over. I have to say that it was packed, which is never the case. You can actually sit in different areas if you want during the season. Yes, it is a non hostile crowd, but why would you want that. Maybe there needs to be a student section near the opponents dugout so stuff like that can be heard.

Miss State is a good environment, they are loud and they are intimidating.  I am sure that is the kind of crowd Esquer wants, but you are not going to get that at Stanford. I as sure you have been to a football game. Never going to get a brutal crowd. I believe Larry was needed, but with the amount of crap he was getting last Monday, he probably didn't want to deal. I hope he is there today!

RE: Stanford Baseball TO THE SUPERS! - TonyLima - 06-12-2022

8-2 and we play Monday. Time? NCAA and ESPN were booed when the announcer said it would be 1:00, 4:00, or 4:30 depending on the outcome of OSU-Auburn. Terrific relief work from Pancer, Bruno, and Mathews.

RE: Stanford Baseball TO THE SUPERS! - ca245 - 06-12-2022

IIRC, late in the game the announcers said that if Auburn-OSU did not go to a third game, we would play in the evening

RE: Stanford Baseball TO THE SUPERS! - JJJ - 06-12-2022

As we were leaving they said that we could play at 1pm, 4pm or 4:30pm depending on other outcomes so stay tuned.

If we're the only game, we play at 4. If both games are going, it'll be 1 and 430 but not sure which we'll be.

OSU won, forcing a game Monday. I would hope ESPN gamed this out and know the starting times right now. It’s 10 pm here on the left coast anfpd I’m trying to plan my Monday. Any info appreciated.

Spike - Spike - 06-12-2022

1pm on ESPN2

By my reckoning, Dowd and Dixon are both available to start tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to go deep and our offense can give them a comfortable lead.

Be careful how you gripe. UConn starting pitcher Austin Peterson was tossed from the game after he had been pulled for (presumably) saying some magic words. He will be ineligible for Monday’s game.

It is possible for an umpire to suck; even though some bad calls benefitted Stanford.
