Leger-Walker (WSU) jammed her knee or hyper-extended on a break-away just 2.5 minutes into the Q3 with her team up 16.

Looked lateral to me. The knee collapsed when she planted for a layup. Not good for the Cougs. If fUCLA comes back to win this . . .

I think Oregon State has really looked great lately, and this coming off a win over #3 Colorado on Friday, too. They have a nice balance of size, good PG play, shooters. I could see them around a #3 or #4 seed in the NCAA's.

WSU still up 12 going into the 4th. So they lost 4 points of their lead after L-W went down.

A rules question: A team does not have to leave the court during a timeout. Can they stand where the other team would bring their chairs out to?

The officials did everything they could for the hometown team in that last quarter. Fouls, out of bounds, and then an effective time out with 8+ seconds on the clock.
I would be in favor of a rule that if the officials need to go to the sideline to check the clock in the last minute, the players cannot go to the bench AND the coach cannot come out onto the floor. Sorta like sending a boxer to a neutral corner.

The officials totally gave UCLA a timeout and there was no need to check the clock. Great win for the Cougs! Hope CLW is OK.

I don't think Cori Close would win this week's Good Sportsmanship award.
The UCLA article on the loss doesn't mention why Betts didn't play this weekend. Indeed, it doesn't even mention that she didn't play. (I did find a non-UCLA article that said she is out for an undisclosed medical reason.) After Friday's game, the article mentioned she didn't play but that's it.
Today's game coverage also didn't mention that CLW went down with an injury with UCLA down 16 points.
In the post game press conference, Close didn't mention CLW's injury, or give any real compliment to WSU When asked what happened in the first half, Close didn't mention CLW. When Rice was asked how they came back in the second half, she didn't mention CLW's injury.
Rice did say it was a "difficult week" (they did have two losses). Close said that the 3 games in the week (M, F, Su) didn't really affect them, and then she went off on a "family" topic and how families (the team) have seasons. Close did not mention Betts by name (not even when she talked about next week, about which she didn't say much, not even who or where they will be playing). Rice responded to a question about missing Betts on the floor.

"... for next week?" "...How long?". The UCLA press notes for the weekend do not indicate Betts was not going to play (and she wasn't on the injury list).
If I were spiderman, I think my spider-sense would be telling me there's more to this situation.

I hate to speculate but based on how emotional Close was in her press conference, something must have happened. The message was the team and coaches have had the most challenging week and she's proud how her team competed based on all they're been dealing with. Makes me wonder if whatever is going on with Lauren is quite series. I really hope that is not the case. Will see what Bruins squad comes to Palo Alto next weekend but something to follow.

Yeah this is very interesting. You hate to speculate, but all signs do point towards Lauren Betts and her absence from the court. Seems, with Cori (and Kiki's emotions in that press conference) and Kiki saying they miss her "on and off the court" — that something may have happened and perhaps Betts needs a break/mental health break, which is becoming more and more common in this world. Will be interesting to follow.

#6 Stanford suddenly finds itself sitting alone
at the top the conference standings,
thanks to erstwhile co-leader #3 Colorado
running across an Oregon State team that is suddenly
peaking at the right time, while #2 UCLA is "mysteriously"
without its scoring/rebounding/blocks leader BETTS
when they lose at home to WSU despite the Cougs
playing without its leader Ledger-Walker
in the final 17+ minutes of the game.
Next week's home games vs #2 UCLA and #11 USC
are crucial if Stanford is to remain at the top of the PAC 12.

Hehe. I like it better when we do that in regard to play on the court instead of personal interactions we aren't privy to.

Two thoughts:
1) I thought Kiki Rice was more articulate than her coach in that press conference. I'm very impressed with her. I bet she would have thrived at Stanford. [EDIT: FYI, I've read on UCLA chatboards that Betts is fine, it's just an illness, and she could return this week. That would explain why Kiki said she hasn't been with the team off the court either. Hopefully that's true and we'll see her in the matchup this week.]
2) Leger-Walker's coach was surprisingly pessimistic about the likely seriousness of her injury. New Zealand's final Olympic qualifying tournament is in 10 days. I don't know if she planned to play in that, but it would be a bummer if she misses out a chance to play with her national team too. Well find out soon. [EDIT: Also, I wonder how P12 teams with more international players might be impacted by Olympic qualifying generally. For example, I read that UCLA forward Angela Dugalic will be playing for Serbia in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Brazil early next month. I don't think Elena Bosgana has an issue. Pretty sure Greece isn't in the running at this point.]

Wonderful article in today's SF Chron, making the case that she deserves a place on an All-American team, perhaps 2nd or 3rd team (takes Cam being a 1st team selection almost for granted)
