And Stanford isn’t taking any of them.
True and True. That surprises anybody on this board?
No doubt that the transfer policy is working to our disadvantage, since it is so hard to transfer into Stanford. Will we eventually loosen up our rules for athletes? Well, we may eventually come kicking and screaming into it, but it will be a while.

Three weeks since a recruiting thread post, and it's three weeks from signing day?
Are the wheels coming off the recruiting class? Seems unlikely given the hoops and hurdles required to get admitted and committed. Plus, I don't know if there is a precedent for Stanford having a decent class in the making (as it does for 2022), and a disaster of a season at the same time. I mean recruits could jump a sinking ship, but that's not going to be as likely at Stanford as other places.
Anyway, are the current public commits the extent of the class in the making?

Maybe Coach Diron should have a talk with these two First Team All Ivy League guys that are grad transferring from Harvard. I know it's the Ivy League, but these guys excelled. And we need bodies on the D-Line, connected to brains that qualify for grad school at Stanford.

For anyone who missed the separate thread, David Bailey, the #66 recruit in the country, just committed to Stanford. He’s the school’s top recruit since Tanner McKee in 2018 and he projects as a terror on the edge defensively.

With Bailey's addition the 247 composite has Stanford with the 11th ranked class in the country, second highest in the Pac-12.

All the usual caveats about team rankings, etc.
I don’t expect any more commits this year due to scholarship constraints, but once other schools complete their classes, I still expect this class will probably end up comfortably within the top 20.
In terms of rankings points, 247 says this class is most comparable to Stanford’s legendary 2009 recruiting class. I’m not sure Stanford can still realize the same player development that it did in that earlier era, but it would be great if that happened.
Sticking with 247’s point system, this class is ranked a bit higher than 2010, 2011, and 2015, but a little lower than 2014, 2106, 2017, 2019, and 2020. The 2012 class is in a category of its own.

Ashton Daniels threw the winning TD pass to lead his team to the Georgia State Championship.
He was 14-20 for 179 yards on the day.
P.S. Cooper Barkate, the Mater Dei receiver who caught a 78 yard TD pass in the State Championship Game, turned down a lot of big time offers to go to Harvard. Wonder why we didn't offer.

That sucks as he was one of our top prospects.
Wonder why he bailed and if it was due to our miserable record this year. I don't suppose we'll ever know.
UCLA went after him big time and perhaps they just talked him out of it, although he hasn't committed to them yet.

Per Rivals Kamari Ramsey was never 100% all in for Stanford. As much as it bewilders us, every year there are high school seniors, both athletes and non-athletes, who are admitted to Stanford yet decide to attend college elsewhere. I for one certainly wish Kamari nothing but success--except for the times he plays Stanford, of course.

Big loss. Kelly has taken over the baton from Adebo as the ace cover corner, but the rest of the defensive backfield has been a little thin on talent for a while. Let’s hope a couple of the more moderately recruited DBs in this class pan out.

IMO, you shouldn't commit until you are 100% in.
Of course, with players and coaches having no hesitation about changing schools these days, perhaps that is a bit of a quaint idea.

That or we should call it something other than "committing." According to the 247sports.com database, there have been 407 and counting decommitments this recruiting cycle.
Maybe a better term would be "going steady."

How about "preliminary intention until I change my mind or something I prefer comes along."
At any rate, "commitment" is a misleading term given how casually recruits (and some coaches) take it.

It's a verbal commitment today. I think that's a pretty good representation of what it means. Very few kids renege on written commitments (aka, letters of intent). In life and in business, people renege on verbal commitments all the time, which is why we have written ones. It's annoying but it's understandable.
Moreover, many schools (other than Stanford) renege on their offers to recruits (see Jim Harbaugh). It goes both ways - maybe someone else can verify this, but isn't it just as common for schools to make offers that they can't or don't end up wanting to honor as for recruits to flip?
