BYU called up Hambly in a Hail Mary desperation attempt to turn their flailing WVB program around. Hambly took the call and that's probably about it. Hambly might use a big money (they do have money) offer to negotiate with Stanford but I don't think that's his style. BYU has an even smaller subset of elite WVB players to chose from then Stanford.
I expect you're right; I certainly hope so.

And Provo is cheaper.
If BYU poach Hambly, that would be the biggest shock. I think Hambly would want to stay in the Bay Area since his daughter committed to Cal I think

Now BYU fans are saying the poster made it up to make BYU fans look stupid and delusional. They are frantic to get a coach in place to get recruiting in the portal before it closes. They also say Hambly has probably strayed from LDS orthodoxy and that won't fly with the Board of Trustees.

Are all BYU coaches LDS? Is Hambly? I didn't think he was even if he did go to BYU.

I have never seen such a large gap between how a player is perceived on a message board and how a player is perceived externally as I have with Parks. It is crazy that people here were calling for a player who is an HM all American to be benched.

There were times when Hambly benched Parks for reasons other than injury. Also you must think Sakibomb is crazy because he strongly favored Yu. He once scolded me for making positive comments about Parks.

Welp, if you go back to page 23, you'll see I posted in favor of Yu being the starter.
At this point, I don't believe Stanford would have gotten any farther with Yu setting; that was not the problem.
I look forward to seeing what Parks can do next year.

To be clear, I saw the same thing that everyone else did. After years of Miner putting the ball exactly where it needed to go time after time, I saw the same clear misses with Parks that everyone else did. I have tried to reconcile the gap between the “eye test” and the stats (and what the people who vote for national awards saw), which said that going from a senior, decorated setter to a freshman, the overall hitting didn’t miss a beat.
I think the issue is that while Parks has had a few very glaring mis-sets that color our perception of her, it is also clear that she was more comfortable and more effective setting the middles than Miner, and that even though that was still only a small fraction of the total offense (I should check, but I think the two mids combined would get about as many kills as the average pin hitter in our typical match this year, so that means that they were responsible for ~25% of our offense)… but by making them a greater part of the offense that gave the opposing defense more to think about, which took some pressure off the outside hitters. Yeah, too many balls were set in such a way as to force our OHes to roll or tip, but when they got a good set (which was still the majority of the time) they were going up against a block that was maybe a step slow.
Add it all together and I think in terms of the overall offensive effectiveness we were pretty close to last year. Missed sets, like shanked passes, are infuriating, but I think Parks did a lot of little things that maybe weren’t as apparent to us observers but still led to the overall offense to be amongst the best in the country (and this despite lacking a Kathryn Plummer who could clean up on out of system balls), and was recognized by the AA voters.
I’m open to other theories, but if you go through this thread, it has been a puzzle to me that I have noodled since about midseason.

Nonetheless Sakibomb is not crazy. Johnbar is not crazy. Hambly is not crazy. All the Stanford fans on a volleyball thread who advocated for Yu, particularly early in the season, and know far more about volleyball and setting than either of us are not crazy.
The selection committee relies almost entirely on stats. I watched every point of every set of every match this season (except one). The eye test usually is not fooled. Stats can be misleading due to so many variables that enter into the equation (play of teammates, strength of opponent, etc.)

It is well known that one person’s eye test is not necessarily that of another. This is why there is science and evidence-based medicine. It is all too easy to suffer from confirmation bias even if your intentions are good and your expertise is high.

I felt that confirmation bias was definitely impacting people's view of the setter situation. But other factors also contributed to the preference for Yu. First, Yu often came in when Parks was having a bad game. Whether that was because Parks was a freshman and showing inconsistency or having difficulty adjusting to the talent and pressure of the games against top teams. Or it could have been any number of other reasons. Regardless of the reason, when Yu replaced her, it often calmed the team down and the offense started flowing better. I'm sure Yu's numbers were better in those few matches but Yu also started several matches and her overall numbers were not better than Parks' numbers.
During some of Yu's starts I specifically watched for sets that were off line or showed missed timing. She had plenty of poor sets but they weren't as off as some of Parks' poor sets. Nonetheless, Yu's poor sets still resulted in easy blocks by the opposition or a weak kill by Stanford resulting in a point opportunity for the other team. Parks had wider variability in her setting and I think that frustrated many of us.
However, Parks is a better blocker than Yu and that helped the team have more success when she was in the game. After Parks came back from the injury and played on the road at Louisville, I felt really good. She had 64 assists and Stanford hit .324 for the match. That is the Parks with the high ceiling that Hambly, and I'm sure the rest of the team, sees in games and practices. As fans, we want a solution to weaknesses on the team so we tend to imbue the backup (setter, quarterback, point guard) with qualities colored by our hopes but the actual results (the numbers) don't always turn out the way we want.
I think that is exactly what happened with volleyball this season. I was hoping we could make it to the Elite 8, but didn't think we had the consistency to make it past that point. We could have beaten Wisconsin with a just a few different outcomes at key points in the match but it didn't turn out that way. The primary reason for my thinking about our team's limits was that we were still unsettled at the setter position. There is simply no replacement for time in getting setters and hitters in sync. Parks' early inconsistency against top talent and injuries just made it difficult to get the team flowing the way needed to make it to the elite level. I also think we didn't quite have the fire power from our outside hitters even though Rubin was extraordinary and Blyashov came on strong at the end. Still it was a really good season for a very young team. I have high hopes for the upcoming seasons.
Cheers,
Pete F.
