Yep. 117 year old Orvil “Get em while they’re hot” Perkins, a Skokie part time janitor at the Tribune told journalist Leigh Montville that Ruth stepped out of the box, pointed at him and said, “Have one ready next to the dugout. I’ll be there as soon as I hit this one outta here.” Ruth gestured to the home dugout indicating that he would swallow the brat almost as fast as the Yanks were swallowing the Cubs.

It prompted me to look up which team has gone the longest since their last no-no.

AL - Name the team and year (bonus points for the name of the pitcher)

AL Len Barker - Cleveland 1981
NL Juan Nieves - Milwaukee 1987

Note - Saberhagen had the last no-hitter by a Royal in 1991.

The modern record is more recent, and has been tied twice.

Next wild guess because all I remember is Matt Cain's perfect game... either 2012 or '14 because the Giants won the Series the year he did it. Seven total? Eight?

Or... the year Nolan Ryan pitched two... early Nineties.

The umpire in Larsen's game was a San Francisco native whose dad was killed in the '06 quake. I think he went to Mission High. It was the last game he umpired behind the plate in a long career. The last hitter was a pinch hitter who played mostly for the Indians.
