While it carries little weight with the selection committee they might have in the back of their mind geographic location. Having a west coast team as a #1regional seed reduces travel expenses for west coast teams in the tournament and makes slightly easier scheduling of games for TV purposes.
I believe the rule use to be the NCAA payed for the flight of any team traveling more than 500 miles in the tournament. I don't what the rules are now but I suspect the NCAA still foots parts of travel expenses.

Excellent points. If the NCAA committee can think that strategically.

They are not using "Cardinal" at all. Its Cardinals vs Stanford.
I wasn’t listening very closely. I’ll take your word for it. But it’s a creative solution.

Call reversed.

I watched the replays on that challengs as closely as I could. The original call was a touch by Louisville, point Stanford. The replays pretty clearly showed a touch. Yet the call was reversed. I know, the head zebra has more angles and tools than we can see. But I don’t believe it this time. Welcome to the ACC, here’s your gift.

Agree, Tony. The blocker's fingers fluttered.

Man it’s going to be close. Not really Louisvilles fault that they closed the season with Pitt and Stanford. Seems unlikely that they would give three #1 seeds to ACC teams, but it is one hell of a conference.

They did give three #1 seeds to the Big Ten one year, FWIW.
Attendance today listed as 5673; good turn out.

204 points in the match and only 5 separated Stanford and Louisville. Here’s the point that I think turned it around in the fourth set; Stanford down 17-14.

What a dig by Oglive, and a nice chase by Rubin, and on the ensuing Louisville attack following the free ball, a big-time stuff by Kurt.
BC
Thank you seniors.

We will miss Miner, Oglive, and Francis.
BC
And congratulations to Kami Miner, who logs her 5,000th assist and becomes only the fifth Stanford setter to get there.
Only Bryn Kehoe (5,956 from 2004-07), Jenna Gray (5,485 from 2016-19), Madi Bugg (5,014 from 2012-15), and Wendy Rush (5,003, from 1984-87) have hit that mark. She seems destined to finish in third all time at Stanford.
BC
And another milestone. Oglive got her 2,000th dig, becoming only the fourth Stanford player to do so:
Morgan Hentz (2,310 from 2016-19, Gabi Ailes (2,147 from 2007-10), and Kyle Gilbert (2,017 from 2011-14). She too should ascend to at least third, and has a chance to move ahead of Ailes.

Sitting here recalling the downer comments on this board early in the season....
It's going to be VERY CLOSE for top overall 3-4-5 seeds among
Louisville, Penn State and Stanford.
Based on unofficial RPI:
#3 - Louisville .7203
#4 - Stanford .7164
#4 - Penn State .7117
Based on Top 10 W-L:
Louisville: (4-5)
W - Stanford, Creighton, Wisconsin, Kentucky
L - Pittsburgh (2x), Nebraska, Stanford, Penn State
Stanford: (4-3)
W - Louisville, SMU, Wisconsin, Kentucky
L - Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Louisville
Penn State: (3-2)
W - Nebraska, Louisville, Kentucky
L - Pittsburgh, Wisconsin
The glaring negative for Stanford is their BAD LOSS vs. #37 Miami
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 -
MSG1716 - 11-30-2024
I expect the #1 seeds to be Pitt, Nebraska, Penn St and Stanford or Louisville. I think Penn St beating Nebraska put them as the 3rd or 4th #1 seed. I think it's a toss-up between Stanford and Louisville. Stanford has one fewer loss and a 9 match winning streak but lost to an unseeded Miami. Louisville played a tougher OOC schedule (both played Nebraska, Wisconsin and Kentucky, but Louisville played Penn St and Creighton while we played Texas and Minnesota). I think I would pick Louisville over us as they beat us in a more dominating way than we beat them, and the Miami loss, but could go either way. I'm not sure how flexible the committee is with the top 16 seeds, but if they rank them in order, we likely play Louisville in the elite 8 match.
Definite shout out to our seniors. Miner is the most impressive setter out there, particularly as noted for her ability to make great sets of mediocre or poor serve returns. She rarely makes a bad set. Today was the first time I've seen her literally whiff on a set attempt. Oglivie has become almost as impressive as libero. She's improved ever year and this year, although not at Morgan Hentz level, rarely misses sets she gets to. I can't believe she has so many digs since teams serve and hit away from her. I think the greatest improvement of all seniors comes from Francis. In the second half of the season, her blocking has become top notch and she's great at slamming down the slide. We will miss them all a lot.
Tonight, I think Rubin was the difference. I would guess, wish I had the stats, that Rubin had the best winning serve percentage as well as 14 digs. And she is the best pin at getting around and off (yes tooling) the block. Another shout out, mentioned early, goes to Pringle. Her service returns have been great. She has taken over as the #1 defensive specialist and I think she competes to be libero next year.
Let's see what tomorrow brings. Love to have 4 more home matches and see us get through the elite 8 curse.

The committee is supposed to be using KPI instead of RPI. I don't know how that is calculated.
This website has the numbers (select division and sport to get the ranking):
https://faktorsports.com/
My guess is the committee will pick those top four for the four regionals: Pitt, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford.
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 -

Pitt, Nebraska, and Penn State three of the top 4 seeds. The show left the fourth one in suspense, so one of Stanford and Louisville will be disappointed.

So Stanford #5 overall, #2 in the Louisville quadrant?
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 -
BostonCard - 12-01-2024
According to the announcers, the difference was that Louisville had the highest SoS, the highest non-conference SoS, and no losses outside of the top-5 (Pitt twice, Nebraska, Penn State, and Stanford). Also, they cited the higher RPI (though Stanford had the higher KPI). I think that is a solid rationale, and as I said, it was a ridiculously close decision. Had we not lost to Miami, we would have been a #1 seed (probably ahead of Penn State).

Yes, Sac State our first round opponent. LMU and UW also in our quadrant. It was obvious once they made LMU the 7th seed.

ESPN is running a bracket challenge for the volleyball tournament. I have created a group called TheCardboard. PM me for the password.
Here’s the invitation link. Current configuration allows two brackets for each member. If that’s objectionable, I can try to change it to one. Edit: Looks like all you need is an espn account and the login link. But I could be wrong.
Silly me. I thought that Stanford being in the ACC would eliminate the East Coast bias against us. Apparently I was wrong.

Only 3 west coast schools are hosting the first two rounds.
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 -

I think us as #5 overall seed is fair. That loss to Miami was the difference. The other difference was Penn St beating Nebraska last week. If they had lost I think Penn St moves to the #5 seed and the ACC gets three #1 seeds. SMU was moved to a #2 seed because of beating both Pitt and Penn St, so they like a potential rematch with Pitt. I'm sure they like a third Louisville-Stanford match. Hope we do better in Louisville this time. We should have confidence after yesterday and hope it's a similar match.
The ACC had 4 teams ranked #1 or #2, appropriate for the best RPI conference in the country.

I agree. I had hoped Stanford would squeak in, given the KPI. But the factors you list made a difference.
BTW, I realize the odds for this are infinitesimal, but if Louisville were to lose in the first or second round, Stanford could then host the regionals.
