RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 01-18-2025

Thanks for posting that Hawaii schedule.  What an insanely difficult way to start the season.  Stanford should be good this year and up to the task.

Penn State OH Alexa Markley in the transfer portal.  Rumor has it she wants to play beach.  3.95 GPA; will graduate in three years this May.

Is there a roster size limit in the 2025/2026 school year for beach volleyball?

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 01-18-2025

No limit this season.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 01-19-2025

I found the answer to my question.  Roster limit of 19 for 2025/2026.   There are currently 24 on the roster with 4 seniors so something will have to give.  Unless I'm missing something there will be no freshman class for 2025/2026.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 01-19-2025

Here are the 2026 commits

2026 Beach

Ruby Cochrane, 6-0 SoCal

Alexandra Gusarova, 5-9 Cyprus

Samantha Krystkowiak, 6-1 SoCal

Olga Nikolaeva, 5-7 SoCal

Estelle Reese, 5-8 Florida

Yes going to be interesting.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 01-19-2025

It would be interesting to know what Andrew Fuller is telling his 2025/2026 recruits.  The article I read said the new roster limits should be finalized and approved in March.   Fuller might influence some of the walk-ons to leave the team but I doubt he would force anyone off the team against their will.  He might tell some of the walk-ons their chances of playing in a tournament is close to zero and see what they want to do. Really don't know how it will be handled.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 01-19-2025

Would love to have an answer but I guess we just wait.

Yes, an interesting problem.  Maybe the two red-shirt juniors won't stay for a fifth year?  That would free up a couple more spots.
But I expect Coach Fuller will have cut some of the walk-ons.

Cal Poly SLO has over 30 on their BVB roster this year.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 01-19-2025

The Cal BVB schedule is up, so I assume Stanford will publish theirs any day now.

Two tournaments at Stanford listed by Cal:
MPSF "Mid-Season", March 7 & 8, with GCU, USC, UCLA, Cal & Stanford

Stanford "Invite", April 18 & 19, with Washington, Santa Clara, UCD, Cal and Stanford
That ends the regular season.

MPSF Championship at Huntigton Beach, April 23-25.
NCAA Championship also at Huntington Beach (first time on west coast), May 2-4.

Schedule announced:

And the schedule:

Home matches starting at 6pm on March 7 & 8, while we're still on PST.
Beach volleyball under the lights.

And the Senior Day statement lists both red-shirt juniors, Emma Morris and Avi Vetter, so it does sound like they will be done at Stanford.
They could always use their red-shirt years somewhere else.  Though if the cap becomes official, it may be much harder to find a place to land.

Also, some Stanford pairs entered in USAV's Trials for U23 team to represent USA at Junior PanAm games:

https://volleyballlife.com/tournament/25446/division/96375/teams
I see Charlotta Bell/Brooke Rockwell, Indigo Clarke/Avery Jackson, Kelly Belardi/Clara Stowell

First team changed to Charlotta Bell/Taylor Wilson.  Bell/Wilson went 2-0 in pool and won their first elimination bracket match.  Will play tomorrow; quarterfinals at 9am.
Clarke/Jackson and Belardi/Stowell each went 1-1 in pool and lost in the first round of the bracket.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 01-26-2025

Matches delayed inclement weather.  Bell/Wilson fell 2-1 in their quarter.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 01-29-2025

NCAA announced on IG that the 2025 BVB championship, the first scheduled for the west coast, has been relocated back to Gulf Shores:

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BostonCard - 01-29-2025

I was going to ask if this was fire related, and I guess it was, but it seems a bit of an over-reaction to move an event scheduled in May that is supposed to happen 50 miles from where the fires were.  It would be like moving something out of the Research Triangle in North Carolina due to the Hurricane that hit Asheville.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - M T - 01-29-2025

If you want a beach front hotel in Huntington Beach, you're going to pay big bucks.  If you're willing to drive a few miles, the prices are more reasonable.   Probably because hurricanes wiped out residences near the beach, hotels are abundant at Gulf Shores and prices are $100-200.

I see NO indication that the relief efforts affect hotel prices or availability.  But someone used it as a veiled excuse.

I presume the MPSF championships will still be at Huntington Beach a week(?) before NCAA championships.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 01-29-2025

I live in Orange County.  I was just at Huntington Beach two weeks ago.  OC is a world away from the Pacific Palisades fires.  This makes no sense.  There are hundreds if not thousands of hotels in LA, Ventura County, and the surrounding areas.   Huntington Beach is one little city in an urban area of millions of people.

I was planning to go to the NCAA tournament so I'm mad about this.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-06-2025

MPSF BVB expanding next year:  https://mpsports.org/news/2025/2/6/mpsf-beach-volleyball-adds-four-teams-in-26.aspx

MPSF championship still in Huntington for this year.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 02-06-2025

The MPSF is now more dominant in beach volleyball than the SEC is in football.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-09-2025

It looks like the child-care facility that used to be across Pampas Lane from the beach courts is gone (they moved the function to a larger facility).

Has anyone heard anything more about plans for expanding the beach courts?  (Adding a fifth court.)

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 02-13-2025

Stanford starts ranked # 5
