Ouch! Wood tested positive for COVID and Cueto added to COVID related IL. Solano quarantining in NY for same.
I guess we will get to see if the team really is as “resilient SF.”

2-5 and LA in 1st by this weekend.
Bottom of the 8th yesterday, Flores drew a 1-out walk to bring the tying run to the plate but Posey K-looking and Belt lined out. At one point in that inning the Brewer reliever threw 7 or 8 straight changeups (!), then blew 97 past Buster for the K.

What hurt the most, imo, was mid-game leadoff double by a Giant (can't recall if Belt or someone else) . . . did not get him home.
Then in 7th inning, runner on third (and first), down 1 run, one out . . . did not score. Dickerson pop out to short and Ruf lineout to LF.
BTW, that's 1 run scored in the last 2 games by the Giants. They'll need to recapture their hitting/scoring stroke . . . hopefully soon.

Dickerson has killed them at times. Luis Matos needs to start next year at Sacramento. He has surpassed Ramos in most future analysis.
Seth Corry, with all world stuff, shut down because he can't get his fastball over. Not much home grown starting talent on the farm meaning that Farhan has to sign four starters.

Back end of Brewers pen is tremendous. Add Burnes, Woodruff and when healthy, Peralta, and that is a team that has a real shot at going far. Especially if Yelich gets hot.
Buster in a slump, something like 6-50. Neds to pick it up in Sept.
Big night for Gausman tonight. Time to pitch like a No1. They need him

Corry has returned to Eugene and is pitching for them.
Ramos’ August stats .310 BA and .848 OPS. I like Matos as well but I think Ramos is on the fast track to SF.

Giants also need to hit and score more. Last 3 games: 0, 1, and 2 runs. They are not hitting situationally (no surprise - been that way all season); nor are they hitting big/clutch (this a departure from season norm). Know it's only 3 games, but the next 5 are crucial, against excellent teams.
P.S. Yaz also not hitting for much of an average (but has popped some dingers); Dickerson (and others) not having a good year, either. Team "feels" at a fragile point right now. Figure Farhan will make moves to give team best chance. We'll see.

This tough stretch was quite foreseeable. Toughest part of schedule. Add the injuries and…. Last night they lost for two main reasons: 1. Brewers hit mistakes. Giants didn’t. 2. Giants played lousy defense.
Not much margin against the best teams. And right now, Brewers are as good a team as there is in baseball. Unfortunately Dodgers get them last weekend of season. Brewers will simply be gettin* healthy, rested, etc. for playoffs. Maybe Dodgers get Burnes and,or Woodruff. Series is Oct 1-3. NLDS starts Oct 7. If they want them to pitch on normal rotation. They could go Oct 1-2. But I suspect if either does, they will only go a few innings. Just to stay sharp.
Course, it may not matter anyway….
Giants have 10 vs Pads. Who will be fighting for WC. And don’t look know, but Snell is getting it together. The worst possibility is the Giants in WC facing Snell.

Buster is really a liability at the plate right now. His swing balance is off, he has no power, and he looks confused/overmatched at times. I mean, even his hit last night was on a very ugly, defensive, reach swing that bounded down the line and bounced past the 1B. Oh yeah, he grounded into a DP in inning 1. I fear Buster is reverting to the "slap hitting" DP machine from yesteryear. I'd give him a couple games off and hope the lower body starts to recuperate.
And speaking of swings, I thing the Giants' "approach" of coming out of their shoes on every swing is not helping them. You say Brewers hit Giant "mistakes" while the Giants did not reciprocate. I generally agree with the latter (most notably Slater's and Estrada's last ABs), but I doubt the former. I saw the early 2 RBI hit to LF as the lefty batter not trying to do too much with the pitch and just directing it into left field. More generally, the Brewers go with pitches more and don't try to hit everything out of the yard (especially with two strikes). But that's not The Giants' Way. And when the G's don't get the 2 or 3 run dong, the O is impotent.
Your worst case scenario is probably a 40/60 proposition. I mean, does anyone here think the Giants will win the division? Mick? Phogge? Bob?
And right now, I'd be pretty happy if Giants finished the Dodgers series with the predicted 2-5 record in last 7 - it means they would be within a game of the Dodgers, worst case. I know there are still a bunch of games left, but it sure seems like September 1 = midnight for the Cinderella Giants (at least as pertains to NL Division).
Maybe they bounce back and recapture the mojo, but the lineup and the pitching don't look all that great right now.

Buster is in a slump. Happens to essentially all hitters. Question is whether he’s healthy. Knee was a problem. If healthy, he will snap out of this. If not, he won’t.
Giants approach has helped them all year. You can’t trash it when things turn south. I mean did you expect the Giants to be tied with the Dodgers on September 3. I don’t freaking think so. And one of the main reasons they are is because of their approach at the plate. It’s worked all year. They are one of the best offenses is in the National League.

Webb brilliant and deserved the win that Rogers got but Rogers unhittable too. A lot of people think W's are passe but this ancient hurler loved them. Great throw from Slater and an even better feint from Crawford that the hitter bit on running to second. Ruf with the hit of the game. Dump Belt and play Ruf 140 games at first next year. Use belt money to snag a starter.
