Greg Camarillo too I think.

The official national signing day for next year's incoming class is Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Agreed. This was the early signing day. Why isn't this thread pinned anymore? 2022 recruiting isn't done.

Neither is Covid, but that board closed about a year ago.  At least this thread is still "active."

More PWO signings brings us to 5 so far:
- WR Jason Thompson
- DE Kaz Melzer
- FB Jacob Lowe
- TE Donovan Jones
- LS Alejandro Chavez (THERE'S our specialist!)

RE: Class of 2022 - TrumpCard - 12-16-2021

I think it makes all the sense in the world to take some specialists as PWOs to save roster spots (especially now that Stanford is filling its allotted scholarships finally).  I don't have a problem with offering scholarships to some high schoolers, but why not also fill the specialist ranks in part with guys who are willing to earn that scholarship in year two or three?

For position players, the calculus is a little different.  Stanford can't count on filling recruiting gaps with PWOs because those players do not pan out with sufficient frequency.  The goal is to keep a solid pipeline of PWOs so that the team will find a valuable diamond in the rough occasionally.  Even landing one position player every other year who ends up starting at some point in his career is a good result for the PWO program, especially if the PWOs are earning their playing time with solid performances rather than due to attrition and desperation...

There are pro/con arguments from the standpoint of university admissions, but taking PWOs for football does align with the "two excellences" model that's been discussed here for a number of years.  And Stanford does have an advantage in recruiting PWOs due to the university's generous financial aid policy (which effectively is like a scholarship for some students, even though the team doesn't use one of its 85).

RE: Class of 2022 - Papa John - 12-29-2021

The Under Armour All American game is Sunday, January 2, and Stanford commit Ernest Cooper IV is on the roster. I believe David Bailey received an invitation but declined, although someone more in the know please feel free to comment.

RE: Class of 2022 - MVDan - 12-30-2021

CB/Safety Joshua Thompson is also playing.

RE: Class of 2022 - SamuelMcF - 01-25-2022

Since the regular signing day for 2022 is in February, and this thread was pointed to, I'm gonna go ahead and revive it. Once regular signing day is over and the Class of 2022 is fully signed and confirmed, I think it's more appropriate this thread can be abandoned/moved on from.

As of now, Collin Wright is still committed.

RE: Class of 2022 - Papa John - 01-25-2022

With National Signing Day for the HS class of 2022 on Wednesday, February 2, I implore the administrators to pin this thread! This is more immediate than the Class of 2024, methinks.

As best as I can tell, there is still one committed but unsigned recruit: S Collin Wright (mentioned by TrumpCard in a different thread) who, I believe, received a late offer from TCU.

Might there be an unexpected addition--a la Wilfredo Aybar--next Wednesday?

With the collapse of Oregon's HS recruiting when Cristobal left, Stanford's class is still atop the Pac-12 and top 20 nationally, per Rivals, 247sports and On3. But with the number of recruits still uncommitted, but not committing to Stanford, that could change a bit.

It seems like a number of teams are foregoing this high school class and, I guess, putting all of their hopes in the transfer portal.

* UCLA has 12 commits and appears to be in the running for maybe 1 or 2 more (no megawhales as best as I can tell)
* Oregon has 11 commits and, although I imagine they'll get 2 or 3 more, will not come remotely close to making up for the ground lost due to Cristobal leaving.
* Cal has 13 commits and no notable prospects still on the board
* ASU has 9 commits
* UW has 5 commits although they are still in the running for OT megawhale Josh Conerly Jr. (a Stanford offer holder) and maybe one or two others

The real mystery team is USC. The Trojans currently have 8 commits and they are in the running for a few uncommitted prospects. They might flip a few unsigned players, but they are making the biggest noise in the transfer portal.

So as of now, it looks to me like Stanford is holding its own with the HS recruits, USC is going to do well with transfers, Arizona is recruiting HS and transfers way above its performance last season, Utah is more-or-less holding steady and everyone else in the conference is bleeding a lot of talent.

But all in all, when you consider HS and transfers, there's no evidence that the Pac-12 will close the gap between it and other Power 5 conferences with incoming talent in 2022. If anything, the gap is getting wider.

RE: Class of 2022 - BobK - 01-25-2022

Per Langdude’s chart we are one over the 85 limit.

RE: Class of 2022 - Phogge - 01-25-2022

Plenty of non-contributors among the 86. French razor time.

I agree with Phogge although I'm not sure what French razor time is. If it has something to do with Sweeney Todd, I want no part of it.

Sure, let's re-pin it. I'll do so.

RE: Class of 2022 - TrumpCard - 01-30-2022

Curious about Collin Wright. I’ve not seen any info about his recruitment since he decided to wait until the second signing period.

If you had heard info, that would be a bad sign since it most likely wouldn't be about us. Cautious optimism here.

I also doubt we'll sign other scholarship players beyond that in the regular period. The class addresses every single position. (Another RB would be nice given the recent departures, though...but not expecting it.)

No news is definitely good news. If he announced (or leaked) anything it would be going to TCU or such. If he tweets that he's sticking to his Stanford commitment he would be deluged with local pressure to stay in-state, so I'm optimistic also given the radio silence.

Yes! Glad he’s staying put.

RE: Class of 2022 - BostonCard - 02-01-2022

His twitter just says that he is signing his LOI tomorrow, not what school he will be faxing it to.
