Maybe I should have been more clear in my definition, knowing your MO is to pick nits in an attempt to make people look bad.

When I say the Giants no longer sign sign re-treads I meant guys who were DFA'd by other teams during a season and signing them to pitch for the Giants during that season. The guys you mentioned do not fit that bill, but thanks for playing. Now you can just gleefully anticipate future opportunities to nail someone to the cross for actually being wrong in the future.

Reuschel and Robinson were acquired in trades and Burkett was drafted by SF.  None of them were signed after being DFA’d by another club.

First, you referred to Reuschel, Robinson and Burkett as retreads, then you define a retread as having been DFA’d, now you deny having referenced those three guys as retreads (thus by your definition as having been DFA’d).

Giants need to follow suit. Unless their goal is to develop nothing but four inning “bulk relievers”….Right now 75 pitches seems to be the limit.

Let’s look at the background for each guy: 

Miller 24 years old with college experience

Harrison 21 years old with no college experience

Whisenhunt 22 years old with limited college experience (he had to sit out a year due to having taken a banned substance that was in an OTC supplement).  67 pitches in 5 innings in his only appearance with Richmond (he starts again tonight) 

Winn 25 years old.  You would think he should be pitching more innings at this point.

I have no problem with how Harrison and Whisenhunt are being handled.  As they mature, they will be stretched out.

No, I never referred to them as retreads. Show me where I referred to any of those as retreads. I mentioned retreads and then added guys like Reuschel, Robinson, and Burkett are not Lincecum, Cain, and Bumgarner. The former would get guys out with guile and trickery. The World Series winners could physically overpower the opponent. I remember one of my friends in High School said Reuschel threw like a baby, but he wasn't a re-tread has been when the Giants acquired him. Robinson had to be held together with duct tape and baling wire. Burkett was a sinker/slider Pitcher who couldn't challenge anyone. I also did not say those guys were DFA'd and then signed.  

This is like hearing someone say Sally is a girl and wears pants, then concluding they said all girls wear pants. If you want examples of to what I refer, ask for them. I am happy to be called out for what I do and say. I'm not too keen on being called out for what I don't do and say.

Two consecutive come-from-behind wins.  Kapler should get a lot of credit for pulling all the right strings…

Pinch hitters went 3-4 plus a walk and the bullpen threw 7.2 scoreless innings.  

(and SF won twice with Sabol starting behind the plate)

True.  But with a catcher, defense is much more important.  Sabol is poor defensively behind the plate. But he’s not going anywhere, so absent trade or injury I expect Bart to go to Sac when his rehab is done.  Unless Giants go with 12 pitchers. And I don’t see that happening.  At least not for more than a few games.

Since we aren’t gonna create a MLB thread here…

If you know any Mets fans, check on them to see if they are OK. Last night’s third straight come from ahead loss to give Braves sweep culminated arguably the worst three losses in Mets history.

The Mets have now lost 13 of last 15 to Atlanta. They lost three straight when leading by at least 3 runs (4 Thursday night) for first time in franchise history. The pen gave up HRs in 8th, 9th, and walkoff in 10th, giving Braves 2 straight walkoff HRs.

Scherzer gave up lead Wednesday. Verlander couldn’t hold lead Thursday, before pen gave it away. 

Now the 4th place Mets - with the highest payroll in MLB - go to Pittsburgh to face a team that lost 2/3 at home to the freaking A’s. They so badly miss Edwin Diaz.

Judge would have been a nice pickup. Even though he's on the IL with a sprained right toe and will be out until the All Star break (likely), he's played in 49 of the Yankees' 62 games, and leads the AL with 19 HRs. They're 36-26, and in third place in the AL East.  Apparently don't do very well without Judge.

The Yanks should send the Dodgers a bill for every game Judge misses. He injured his toe when he ran into an unpadded concrete base to an outfield gate. Subsequently, LA said they would add some padding to the base.  How thoughtful…….

Schmitt 3-30 slump.  Pitchers have adjusted - no need to throw him strikes.  He’s going to have to adjust.  1 walk in over 100 PAs.

Luis Matos continues pummeling baseballs for Sac. Has 3 HRs in last 2 games and is at .396 and OPS over 1.

Marco Luciano also has 3 HRs. In his last 2 games, but is a shocking .200 points behind Matos on the BA meter.

I’ll take a Schmitt, Bailey, Matos, Harrison, and maybe Whisenhunt youth infusion this year and hope Luciano can resurrect his bat next year like Matos did a year after he struggled in 2022.

Gonna take more than the Giants have now to get into playoffs, IMO.

Gonna take more than the Giants have now to get into playoffs, IMO.

Luciano went 5-7 with 3 HRs this weekend. Snapped a 2-27 slump.  His bat is just fine.  8 HRs. Slow start understandable as he was coming off injury. Question is his back. I suspect we see him in SF in 24.

As for playoffs, I’m the guy that had them at 78:wins. That’s going to be well low. 85 wins may be enough. The NL is full of mediocrity this year. Giants have a good shot. Especially if their bullpen keeps pitching lights out.

Interesting chart.  Not a surprising move.  My guess is he’s traded in the offseason when they can pick up a veteran depth piece.  They can’t trade him now as they have no one else that could step in should Bailey or Sabol get hurt. Bailey has a little neck issue right now.  Hopefully back in lineup tonight.
