Stanford wins at the 1,3, and 5 to take match against Hawaii.   When all five contests are going on at the same time, things progress quickly.

Only line-up change is Babi Gubbins with Indigo Clarke at the 6s (exhibition).

Does Gubbins look like a volleyball player?

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - JJJ - 02-22-2025

This one was far less stressful to watch.
One more vs ASU, when a number of local alumni will be in attendance.

Fair amount of shuffling in the poll after the first week, but Stanford remains #5.

Gubbins and Belardi with the win to start the day

Stanford up 4-0 against Sacramento State. #1 team is going to a third set at the moment.  Some new names in the match today.  Hambly must be confident about this one.

Stanford beach volleyball is in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.  Big Ten Network has a contract with MPSF beach volleyball conference.  All the matches this weekend are on B1G+.

Andrew Fuller is the beach volleyball coach, not Kevin Hambly.

Oops, I didn't follow Casey Jacobsen's advice.  That's what I get for looking at indoor club tournament results when posting about beach vb.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 02-28-2025

Sacto State had decent teams at the 1s and 2s, but no depth.  (Their 1s, Volkmann & Smith were the only team to take a set off the Cardinal today.)

Stanford's 5s (Sharp & I. Clarke against Sacto, Sharp & Vincent vs. SMC) went on long runs.  I believe they started the first set 11-0, before the Hornets called TO and then got a point on a service error.  It was a 7-0 start (IIRC) vs. SMC.

It was nice to see Emmy Sharp back on the court after missing last year to the ACL injury.  I wonder if she'll make it on to the 5s vs. stronger competition?

I learned that "Babi" is pronounced "Bobby", if I heard right.  (I had assumed it rhymed with "Gabby".)

Also, as I was leaving after the SMC dual, I saw former indoor DOVO Amy Brown, holding her new-born, "Austin".

Expect more of the same tomorrow vs. UoP and SCU.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 03-01-2025

Stanford vs Pacific.  Coach Fuller scrambled the lineup for this match.  Pacific lost to Cal 0-5 and doesn't have a win yet this season.  Indigo Clark and Logan Tusher playing as the #1 team.  With 24 players on the roster it's good to see Fuller getting  different players in matches that count on the record.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-01-2025

Pacific only lists one coach on their beach staff, and she is in her first year.

Stanford up 2-0 so far; should be another sweep.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 03-01-2025

4-0 now and soon to be 5-0.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 03-01-2025

Pretty impressive two freshmen playing on the #1 team and a freshman playing on the #2 team.

On the roster it shows all seven freshmen are 5'10" or taller if I can read the roster correctly. Bell and Gubbins are 6'3". I wish Gubbins would have played on the indoor team but her focus now is beach only. Gubbins was a highly ranked MB until she quit indoor.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-01-2025

And a 5-0 sweep (10-0 in sets) over Santa Clara.
The local teams (other than Cal) aren't really much competition for Stanford any more.
But nice to see other players get into action.

I.Clarke and Tusher won't be at the 1s next week, when the Cardinal take on some tougher competition.  I'm guessing it will be more like in Hawaii, with Rockwell/Sorra at the 1s, Bell/Wilson at the 2s, and probably Belardi/Jackson at the 3s.  Beyond that, there might be some movement; e.g., maybe Sharp in at the 5s.

1. Indigo Clarke and Logan Tusher (STAN) def. Josephine Kinlan and Kelea Saxton Vaka (PAC) 21-17, 21-14
2. Charlotta Bell and Taylor Wilson (STAN) def. Nad Murray Ceriello and Margherita Giani (PAC) 21-4, 21-9
3.  Kelly Belardi and Phoenix Clarke (STAN) def. McKenna Brent and Charlotte Gibson (PAC) 21-5, 21-9
4.  Serena Turner and Ashley Vincent (STAN) def. Makayla Beckett and Ashley Davies (PAC) 18-21, 21-11, 15-6
5.  Line Andersson and Camdyn Doucet (STAN) def. Sydney Priebe and Joelyn Abougoush (PAC) 21-9, 21-14

1. Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra (STAN) def. Holland Jackson and Alexandra Urbina (SCU) 21-14, 21-16
2. Babi Gubbins and Sophie Kubiak (STAN) def. Saddie Snipes and Sammy Wood (SCU) 21-17, 21-16
3. Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell (STAN) def. Noelle Niderman and Ciara Cantlen (SCU) 21-17, 21-16
4. Daria Gusarova and Emmy Sharp (STAN) def. Sveva Munneke and Teagan Wilson (SCU) 21-16, 21-12
5. Emma Morris and Ashley Vincent (STAN) def. Ava Stoddard and Kawena Chillingworth (SCU) 21-15, 21-19

ETA:  Did anyone watch the stream(s) on B1G+?  If so, how was the quality?

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-05-2025

Stanford holds steady at #5 in the coaches' poll.  No changes in the top 9.

https://www.avca.org/polls-awards/polls/?_season=2025&_divisions=national-collegiate-womens-beach

Friday the Cardinal host the MPSF Mid-Season Rumble, and will take on Oregon and UCLA on Friday and USC and Cal on Saturday.  Hoping they upset at least one of the SoCal teams.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 03-05-2025

All the rumble matches will be live streamed on B1G+.  I get B1G on cable.  I'm thinking of subscribing to B1G+ for a month.   I follow a Penn State indoor vb message board.  The fans there complain a lot about the problems they encounter on B1G+.  But at $13/month the cost is negligible.

All four matches likely will be close.  Hoping Stanford's #1 team can get some wins.  It won't be easy.

The way I see this schedule is USC and Oregon on Friday with UCLA and Cal on Saturday.  Stanford has matches scheduled to start at 6:00 pm both days.  The way they have the schedule stacked up those matches probably won't start until after 8:00 pm.    By 8:00 pm it's going to be around 50 degrees F.
