Posey 3-4 with a line out Sat. He will sit tonight. Let’s see what he does at Colorado. Maybe he got his stroke back. Bat speed is not his issue, Phogge. Legs are. And balance. When he slumps, he reaches a lot and tends to roll ball over. Always been the case with Posey.
He’s never had a problem getting around on fastballs.

Posey was the (lone?) bright spot for Giants last night. Good for him. Hope he continues that in coming games. (Really, just swings with balance and purpose).

Lex, if your legs hurt or are tired it slows down your bat speed. Go to a cage and hit 50 balls. Your legs will be killing you and you almost can’t get around. At 75 I still hit balls in San Rafael.

At the end of the first three innings, Giants had six runs off of Walker Buehler.
The Giants have been playing a bunch of relievers lately. I actually like the strategy. Keeps the Dodgers off balance and lets the relievers build confidence against a top hitting team. I like the strategy. Assuming they win today, the Giants will have taken the season series 0-9 AND finished 3-4 against the Brewers and Dodgers. Feelin' pretty good about the rest of the season.

Yep. You got a slice of a future closer with Doval. Add Castro and Santos next year. The staff will look a lot different.

McGee went over two months without giving up a run. His ERA is 2.9 ish. Whip under 1. 58 Ks and 10 walks. Is he Josh Hader? No. But he’s been darn good. Yesterday was his third game in 4 days. I do think he struggles a bit when he has that kind of workload. But Kapler has no choice.
We will see what he has left down the stretch.

Jarlin Garcia's WHIP is 0.83. McGee's is 0.92, Rogers is 0.96. All three SF relievers, under 1.00 WHIP. For comparison purposes, MLB average WHIP right now is 1.294. Best Brian Wilson ever did in a season in which he pitched 30+ innings was 1.179, Rod Beck was 0.837, Robb Nen was 0.848. Romo had some amazing years, when SF gave him the boot, he had just finished a 1.076 WHIP year. Greg Minton's best was 1.079, Randy Moffitt's best was 1.166, Gary Lavelle's best was 1.107. Sounds like McGee's doing pretty well.
BTW, Jose Alvarez and Tony Watson both have 1.06 WHIPs this year. Zack Littell is 1.07, Dominic Leone is 1.16, and three of the Giants' starters are Gausman (1.006), Webb (1.086) and DeSclefani (1.094). Wish Reyes Moronta was back. He only pitched four innings, but his WHIP is 0.25.
And the three position players who have pitched an inning (Slater, Ruf and Tauchman) all have 3.000 WHIPs.

Giants went 3-4 in the 7 game home stretch. Not bad. The Giants have 25 games remaining with three series (and 10 games) against the Padres, two series against the Rockies, and one series each against the Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Braves. They have a 14 game lead over the Padres, 14.5 over the Braves.
BTW, the Giants now have 87 wins. They had 88 in 2014 and 92 in 2010.
Currently, the Giants are #6 in OPS, #9 in runs scored, and T2 in HRs (202) and #10 in BA at .243. They are #2 in ERA at 3.26, and #2 in WHIP at 1.13. They are #7 in errors and #8 in fielding percentage.

And critically, they won the series against the Dodgers. 1-3 against the Brewers and 2-1 against the Dodgers is better than 2-2, 1-2 and possibly even 3-1, 1-2.

No, I don't only highlight negative outings. And btw, do you guys actually watch the games? McGee gets hit. Hard. I'd say much harder than most good (not even great) closers. His fastball is too flat. He does well when he locates exceptionally well; but otherwise, he gets knocked around. Sometimes those shots off the hitters find a glove, and I suggest THAT is what is keeping his numbers respectable (and if you look at last month, I'd bet those numbers are on the rise. Big time). Also, he gave up a 2-run oppo bomb to a righty that the 1B ump initially called a homer. Replay showed it went right of the foul pole . . . by about two inches.
As for whether Kapler has a choice, sure he does. You could let Rogers go 2 innings, or at least start the ninth inning (it wasn't even a save opportunity when McGee entered the game).
Look, overall the Giants have been fabulous. And Kapler has made WAY more great decisions than poor ones (only a couple of the latter, imo). My big point of emphasis is to have the Giants play a real playoff series by either winning the NL West or the WC game. Given how great they've played this season, only getting a one and done post-game would really be unjust.
I still don't think they have a dominant ACE starter, though Webb has been terrific lately. And I really don't trust McGee as the closer, especially in WC game. (In your heart of hearts, do you trust McGee in a 3-2 game in the ninth to lock it down)? Those are two vital ingredients for any playoff success, but particularly the one-game WC scenario.
P.S. Doval has closer stuff . . . but I'm not sure about between the ears.

I think mcGee needs to throw the slider more often. It's not bad but he obviously doesn't trust it as an out pitch. His fastball has little movement. He probably won't be around next year. But he has been effective and Santos is suspended and Castro is at least a year away. So Kapler sticks with him.
Something like 32 pitchers this year. It's not like they haven't had auditions.

What about the guy who started yesterday and finished today against he Rockies? Leone?
And Giants, is 2.81 ERA for a closer good (I know it's not great).
