I had them at 80. If they don’t fix the back end of their rotation, I still have them around .500. Whether they can fix that problem is another story…..
On the positive side, the guys they have been touting in their farm system are playing much better than last year. The long term outlook is bullish.

Agree on the back end. I’d like to see Manaea get another chance to start. He’s been throwing well.

Rickwood Field, where Willie Mays made his professional debut as a member of the Birmingham Black Barons (and the only ballpark still standing where Mays wore a home uniform), is reported to be the host of next year’s Field of Dreams game between the Giants and Cardinals. Giants win, 11-3. Now 35-32 on the season. Brought up Keaton Winn, who allowed one run in four innings closing out the game. Conforto four hits, Bailey and Yaz homered. Team had 17 hits, happily didn't have an error. Once again, Giants are in the last wild card playoff spot.

Haniger - broken arm; Davis - sprained ankle. Villar and Matos are being brought up to replace them on the roster.

I was going to post re Haniger being a disappointment yesterday. Glad I didn't, but he's pulling down mega bucks and hitting 230. Very sorry he suffered a broken arm but it will force the G's to find a replacement. Slater, who also bats right, is hitting over 400, I think. Also looking forward to seeing Mattos. Sabol isn't a great fielder but he's managed ok and is holding his own at the bat.

The Luis Matos era may be starting a lot sooner than people expected given the Haniger injury. The question becomes will he play CF exclusively?

Matos can play all three. He's just 21, hit well in Richmond, and is tearing the cover off the ball in Sacramento.
The youth movement is real, vibrant and exhilarating, starting with the arrival of Schmitt and Bailey. Winn can pitch, Matos is on his way, Harrison maybe not that far behind. Doval, Sabol and Webb are only 25, 25 and 26. Walker is 27. Giants may be moving from one of the oldest teams to one of the younger (or middle of the pack) teams, especially if they lose Crawford. Slater and Conforto are only 30. Lots of pitchers age 32 or older, the age when Cain, Lincecum and Bumgarner either became ineffective or were done in baseball.
The Giants started 11-17. Their record is 24-15 since then. And attendance is picking up. A running, seven-game home average starts off high with both Dodger games and the openers at 33k, quickly dropped to the 24k range, even as low as 23,987 a month ago, then went to 25k and 26k, then 29k. Last four running seven game averages are 30k, 31k, 30.6k and 32,400. Trend is positive, and with the arrival of summer, families can hit up the weekday games. We'll see how well the Padres and Diamondbacks draw.
One other thing...the Giants seem to have an inordinate number of local, or at least Californian players. Crawford is Pleasanton/Foothill HS, Pederson went to Paly, Haniger went to Mitty, Slater went to Stanford, Beck went to Stanford, Cal Stevenson was from Fremont, Scott Alexander went to Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa, Logan Webb went to Rocklin HS, Kyle Harrison went to De La Salle, Austin Wynns went to Fresno State, Sam Long went to Sac State, Trevor Hildenberger (RiverCats) went to Cal, Schmitt, Nottingham and Sabol are SoCal (San Diego, Redlands HS and USC). 15 players, 12 of whom were NorCal, acquired by the Giants. By chance or by design? Do local products mean more local attendance? I always liked to see Mike Aldrete, Jeff Kent, Randy Winn, Brian Johnson and other local players on Giant rosters.

When SF selected Hunter Bishop (Serra HS), they noted his Bay Area roots as a plus. To date, Bishop looks like a Round 1 bust. Hopefully, he can get back on track at some point after he regains his health.
Heck, the most popular Giants during the title years were Posey, Bumgarner and Pence. All of them grew up far from California.
I think fans do follow players who grew up in their hometown more closely than others (Chris Speier was always one of my favorites because we played youth baseball on the same team) but that is not a determining factor regarding whether they attend games. It is all about winning and that requires highly talented players from all over the world.
Today, among others, we are looking at a Venezuelan prospect to carry the torch alongside a North Carolina product.

Bishop has seemed to have a hard time at every level. He's 24 years old and hasn't played in AA yet. It'd be nice if he could join Barry Bonds, Gregg Jefferies and Jim Fregosi as Serra HS success stories.
Or he could end up like Serra's Dan Serafini, a 1st round draft pick, who played bits of seven seasons in MLB, but played 22 seasons overall, including the Japanese, Chinese and Mexican leagues.

Annoyingly I can't use my Verizon/Xfinity account to stream this game at work due to a new home WIFI requirement so I'm "following" on twitter. Here's the error I get when I try to launch NBC Sports Bay Area (a cable channel).
"Due to licensing agreements, some content can only be viewed on your home WiFi".
I don't remember encountering this last MLB season when I watched many games from our office.
Are they TRYING to force people to become cable cutters? We're in a weird period for broadcast sports when having a high priced cable subscription may no longer grant access to your local teams. I guess I now need cable premium plans, paramount premium, youtube premium, and so on. So expensive, so annoying .....
