Maybe they tried to drop all his AP classes to disqualify him academically from Stanford.

This looks a little bit like Hulk's offer theory, which he used in the past to determine how good a recruit would be based on who else offered.

Nice to be on the other side of things, where other schools are measuring themselves based on whether a recruit holds an offer from us.

That being said, I would temper somewhat the methodology on Stanford based on the uniqueness of our offers and the non-athletic aspect of it.  By the time we make an offer, we usually have a better than average indication on whether Stanford is a good fit, because of the academic variables (we are only going to offer recruits with good academics and such recruits are likely to care about academics and thus value a Stanford offer).  On the flip side, some players with "offers" from us don't clear admissions and go elsewhere not because they didn't want us (and not necessarily because we didn't want them), but because they didn't clear admissions.

Stanford made 4 new offers based on performance at the June camp (Hattis, Herbig, Stewart, McElwain).  How many more guys will be identified at Friday Night Lights?  The guys who I most want to see there are Carlo Kemp and Kofi Boateng since the DL and WR boards seem a bit thin.  Maybe Joel Dublanko, too, if Shaw doesn't think he'll land any of the whale LBs on the current board.  I don't have any info on whether these three will actually attend the camp, but all three have mentioned interest in Stanford at some point in their recruitment and all three seem like credible players who may just need an opportunity to shine in front of Shaw before earning an offer.  I suspect Kemp is both closest to an offer and most academically qualified of the three.  I'm high on Eboh too, but he's already shown his stuff at the June camp and at the Opening, so he just needs to wait and see whether the DB board thins out.

What/where is the source for the quoted assertion that ND's Kelly tried to mess with HS player's (Fehoko?) academic schedule?  That seems to be the quoted material is saying.

The source was the Salt Lake Tribune article linked in the tweet above about Fehoko committing.

There were no details to the assertion beyond the quotation given above, and I have to say it sounds kind of sketchy to me.

Even worse, the article is spread over three web pages to increase clicks and non-stop reloads ads sucking up my available bandwidth.

Dead end on the ND meddling assertion - Redrum - 07-20-2015

The author, Trevor Phibbs, is a "correspondent"of the Salt Lake City Tribune apparently covering HS sports.  He does not have a contact number or email listed and engaging on Twitter seems destined to be stonewalled or ignored.  So we're left with:

If I had to speculate on the reality behind this inartfully written and unsupported tidbit,  I'd guess that the Notre Dame recruiter-- without Fehoko's permission-- talked to Fehoko's coach or coaches about how Fehoko already qualified for ND academically and hinting/ urging that the HS coaches could get him to take a less demanding academic schedule.  The reason given might be  so Fehoko could concentrate on and enjoy his senior year of football.  What HS coach wouldn't want a 4-star kid totally focused on football?  Whether the HS coach actually  did try to influence Fehoko we'll never know.  Of course, this proposed relaxed schedule  would de facto eliminate Stanford, but I'm pretty sure no opposing coach would try to pull a trick like that. EMOTICON.  Then, maybe the HS coach -- without a specific agenda-- mentioned it to Fehoko...who didn't take the bait.  Maybe more.  Maybe there was active blowback from Fehoko or the school. And, somewhere along the way the ever-vigilant Trevor Phibbs picked up the story.

Anyway...short of any fact-based narrative, that was the only way I can think a college coach interacting with a high school point of contact could have floated such an idea.  Phibbs wrote it as if ND recruiters were up in the school front office meddling with Fehoko's actual class schedule.  It would have been a really juicy story if the ND recruiter had directly tried to influence the school academic counselors or staff...which might have been what Phibbs was hinting at with his "Bedlam in the school hallways" reference.  As much as I'd like to see something like that blow up in ND's face,  that seems less likely.  If only I could get to talk to Phibbs over a drink after work.

If they wanted him to graduate early and enroll in college during his senior year, they might have tried to move courses required for graduation to the first semester.  Graduating early with a mid-year college enrollment would eliminate Stanford, but it was more likely a move to lock up a recruit with early admission and eliminate all competitors.

The staff has done a great job of getting high-value recruits to visit.  Here is my list of 23 recruits in this class rated 4-stars or higher on Scout who have visited Stanford:

Commits (7): Smith, Costello, C. Robinson, Yarbrough, Williams, Fehoko, Bisharat
In The Mix (13): Long, Butler, Rand, Kemp, Eboh, Kelly, Crawford, Fuller, Farniok, Pryts, Stephens, Burton, McCulloch
Out Of It (3): Malepeai, McKinley, Imatorbhebhe

Edmonds and Okonya should probably be on this list too, but Scout under-rates both of them.

As always, I welcome additions, even ones who visited and then eliminated Stanford.  I don't have a good list of people who attended Stanford's camps as rising juniors last year, so I expect we could add to this list. 

With visit rosters like this, we can dispense with Hulk's old maxim, but we can still be very optimistic about the future of recruiting at Stanford.
