Thanks for taking care of this martyup, but the folks who picked ND have a 10 point penalty. Seems to me it should be the other way?

Maybe I haven't understood the system yet (yes, I'm still kind of new around here), but the penalty I received on the last game (-10) is a consequence of picking ND to win? Correct? If so, that's an interesting twist. I picked the Irish with the most fervent hope I was wrong. But reason told me it would be very difficult for the Cardinal to exit that venue with a W.

No, that is the rule. This is the Cardboard and members are penalized for picking the Cardinal to lose. However, those that chose ND get a rank score higher than everyone that chose Stanford. The penalty is deducted from the rank score. The rules are posted at the top of this thread.

OK, I understand the system. Just one point of clarification: even though my rational side said we were likely to lose, I also "stuck by my team" and thought we had a chance to win this one. I am as unhappy about the outcome as all those who picked Stanford to win.

On another note, who on this board predicted 12-0 (or is now predicting 11-1) for this year's team? Even the most loyal of fans are not likely to predict this. Unless things improve on our O-line, I don't see us beating the Dawgs in Seattle. And, as is almost traditional in recent years, we tend to lose one game per year that we shouldn't lose (2017: SDSU; 2016:Colorado; 2015: Northwestern; 2014: Utah, ASU; 2013: Utah; 2012: Washington). But, yeah, I would love to see 11-1 and a Rose Bowl (or maybe even CFP bid). Coach Shaw, please prove me wrong!

Nice graphic. But I didn't choose them to lose. I just reasoned that they would lose and hoped I was wrong. I would have loved to have been at the absolute bottom of that list. My allegiance to the Cardinal goes back to my Stanford years (1975-1979) and is unshakable. But this passion is overlain with the curse of thought and analytical abilities; and that skill-set may cost me another ten points in the future (unless, of course, the O-line starts performing, then I'm definitely in the 11-1 camp from here on out). CFP! (or at least Rose Bowl!)

Fortunately for me, I am not bound by rational thought nor even any real football understanding (beyond the fact that Bryce Love is fast and we should do more touchhdowns). And that is why I pick scores that have no basis in reality; I am pleasantly surprised when I finish in anything other than last place ( sadly, no pleasant surprises from my Notre Dame prediction)

I don't question your loyalty as a Stanford fan. I don't think you would become a member of the Cardboard if you weren't a fan. We must all remember that this is a game about games and the Game of Thrones is a TV show based on a fictional book. Sanity within a fan base is just illogical.

Max Meyer picks Stanford: We saw Stanford for what it really is on Saturday against Notre Dame. If you can eliminate the vertical passing game, the Cardinal are very beatable (admittedly, that's easier said than done). Utah gave up 445 passing yards and 7.9 yards per attempt to Gardner Minshew in last weekend's tight loss to Washington State, as its stellar pass defense numbers coming into the game were made to look fraudulent due to its prior competition. Facing K.J. Costello and JJ Arcega-Whiteside won't be a walk in the park either, and I think Stanford will take care of business at home, with or without Bryce Love.

That sounds about right. A fairly low scoring, close (perhaps a bit ugly) game.
My guess is that Love doesn't even suit up.
