RE: Baseball Super Regional - Stanford2020 - 06-08-2019

Scary scene as someone collapsed in the MSU dugout. Seemed to walk to the clubhouse with help - sure hope they're alright.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - PVTree - 06-08-2019

What the heck is wrong with Tawa's fielding? Too many errors in the past few games, extending innings, and exerting our pitchers more than needed.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - OutsiderFan - 06-08-2019

One day after scoring 18 on Vandy, Duke is 3 outs away from being no hit in Game 2.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - BostonCard - 06-08-2019

That’s it.  Vandy no-hit Duke.

Sadly we go down 6-2. Gotta come back, again.

As in pitching a no hitter gets a team exposed. . . .

This is why getting one of the top 8 seeds was so critical.
Not worth several runs, but it can be an advantage.  Can help in close games.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - Stanford2020 - 06-08-2019

Michigan just came within about three feet on a fly ball from walking off UCLA. Going to the 10th tied at 4.

Our young man who had the medical emergency in the dugout is Jack Eagan.  Obviously the first thought is we hope Jack is OK.  From the suoer regional perspective, he has been our #4, mid-week starter when Ginn was healthy...our #3 Sunday guy when Ginn is out.

If this series goes to a 3rd game and Ginn is not able to go, Eagan would most likely have been our starter.

Hope he comes back alright. Some things go well beyond the game of baseball and snap you back to the grand scheme of things. Scary scene today and it was good to see him walk to the back on his own.

Thank you.  So right.  That said, it's been reported he was taken via wheelchair from the clubhouse to an ambulance.  Praying it's mostly precautionary.

In case y'all are interested, tonight's attendance was the 3rd-most in NCAA Tournament history.  13,152.

Hope your visiting fans are having a good time.

This is incorrect. Eagan has only made 1 mid-week start all season and zero Sunday starts. I think you are confusing him with Keegan James. Also, Keegan has fallen behind true freshman Brandon Smith for the 4th starter spot on this staff.

That Michigan infield is worth watching. Damn.

Seems like an even pitching match up for them today.

Are you suggesting that game is going to be more interesting than Stanford Mississippi State?

RE: Baseball Super Regional - Phogge - 06-09-2019

While you guys were watching Stanford lose I watched one of the most impressive pitching performances ever. Kumar Rocker has MLB ready stuff and he’s a freshman. I hope Vandy and Stanford make the CWS and we see this kid a couple more times. He is not Walter Johnson yet but especially in this era of coddling kids like infants he threw 131 pitches and struck out 19. He is already better than anybody on the Giants staff. It will be interesting to see how he develops. The three year wait to be drafted has been mandated by his family and I usually agree with it. Not this time but I’m old and hope I’m still around to see him in a Giants uni, assuming they suck as much in two years.

No, we should match up better today.
It is actually possible to hit against Mississippi State pitchers not named Small.

I'd feel even more confident if we had Michigan's shortstop.  Man.

This prompted the following trivia question.  Which pitcher had the worst outing as measured by game score immediately preceding a no-hitter on his next outing?

Me. In 1962.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - OutsiderFan - 06-09-2019

I watched the last three innings of Kumar Rocker's sublime performance. Kid had everything working for him, but what I liked was his pace. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone pitch faster.  It was taking like 5 seconds from when he got the ball from the catcher for him to go into his windup.

Made me wonder if more pitchers pitched with pace if they would have more success. It can't be easy for hitters to process much information when pitches are coming at them so fast.

I stand corrected.  Had looked at our stat sheet, thinking I was looking at Eagan,  You are correct, it was James.  Thank you for fixing that.

Considering our own shortstop has had a severe case of the yips the past two weeks I would agree.
