Adebo seals the deal.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - martyup - 10-26-2019

Adebo is NFL bound.  We need two more wins out of him this season.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - Austroturf - 10-26-2019

After 01:00 AM over here.  Good night folks.  Great win.  Lots of ups and downs.  Glad to be wrong on the prediction.  I will lose my first place spot, and I do so with pleasure.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - martyup - 10-26-2019

Costello with a 70% completion rate today.  3 TDs and 312 yards.  Nice return for KJ.  Boy, does West look bad now?  I wonder if the team just didn't want to perform for West.  I've seen this before.  If you are not liked by your team as a QB, they will hang you out to dry.  Not sure if that is why West got sacked 7 times, but this sure looked like a different O line today.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - needle - 10-26-2019

Bowl hopes have a strong pulse.

Hate that Treyjohn Butler and Curtis Robinson appeared to sustain serious injuries (announcers said Robinson was taken to the locker room with swollen ankle, and they also said Butler was carted away with a towel over his head--a bad sign that usually means a player knows it's a really bad injury).

Costello obviously made a big difference. The O-line did a good job of giving him time.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - Austroturf - 10-26-2019

A second bye week.  Hopefully that will allow the team to heal and get some players back out on the field.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - martyup - 10-26-2019

Both teams leave the field today with a record of 4-4.  Two more wins and Stanford is bowl eligible.  IMO, we have to take 2 out of 3 against CO, Wazzu, and Cal.  Assuming ND is a loss.  If Costello can stay healthy, we can get two more wins.  If we have to play West, we're toast.

Robinson out of the game.

Robinson out of the game.

His knee touched the ground early.

I think it was summed up best by the shots of the guy on the sideline with the incredible mullet. You know, the discus thrower guy who just to joined the team this week to back up the O-line.

I only watched the second half and was completely perplexed by the play of the O-line. Two weeks ago, great. Last week, awful. This week, great. Can you break that down for us?

Aren't you answering your own question? West looked so bad because he had very little time to throw. KJ had eons today, comparably. All about the line play. How about rushing yards? Today, Scarlett over 100. Last week, what, 34? We have a schizophrenic O-line.

My theory, based on pure speculation, is that Jack West is not respected by his teammates and KJ is well respected.

Maddox also went to the locker room in the 1st half. Don't know that he returned.

For what it’s worth, UCLA is dominating ASU and Michigan is dominating ND. Makes the loss to UCLA LOOK not so bad and gives some hope against ND.

Yes, Stanford OL "looked different" today because they were were playing against Arizona instead of UCLA.
Had West played today I expect he would have led Stanford to a victory. If a QB has lots of time he will complete lots of passes and look good.

Get one of the roadies.

Nothing at this point would give me greater pleasure than watching the Weenies limp into our house on a 6-game losing streak and see us simultaneously become bowl eligible and eliminate them from the postseason.

I agree.  Terrible theory.

He looked like a deer in the headlights.  He also looks 14 years old compared to the other two.  That was his 1st start and 1st serious playing time.

RE: Arizona Game Thread - Goose - 10-26-2019

I have head that one important fact is that UCLA switched to an entirely one gap approach against Stanford. Previously, they were supposedly a mix but mostly two gap. That have stuck with that plan tonight. It is clear that it fits their personnel much better. We probably weren't really prepared for that, and it undoubtedly affected our OL play. It is also probable that the freshmen aren't reacting as quickly to the man in the gap instead of right in front of them. On top of that, if the guy in the gap slants in a way you aren't prepared for, you block nobody. That happened against UCLA, frequently.

So, maybe it is a bit of schizophrenia mixed with an unexpected defensive approach that called on our OL to react in a way they were not really ready for and/or not good at. We may not be out of the woods there yet.

Yeah, more likely a combination of West not scrambling well to avoid sacks, the O line not holding their blocks, West not going through his progressions if the primary was covered, and UCLA wanting it more.

I think perhaps a more likely reason is that UCLA has turned a corner for Chip Kelly.  UCLA beat #24 Arizona State 42-32.  At one point, they were ahead 42-10.  Of course, UCLA's defense only had one sack...

They have Washington State (4-4, 1-4) and USC (5-3, 4-1).  Could happen.

We have a patchwork OL with three true freshmen. Proud of the way they played today. Defense still needs more work but Adebo Island was bigtime. I'm going to enjoy his last two home games.
