My point was the Giants will face one less quality starter as a result of Clevinger not being available in first post season series. Padres aren't going to burn a top starter on Sunday. I was watching YES last night and heard David Cone talking about biceps tendinitis (what Clevinger has), and he said it's a really big deal. If you shut down early enough inflammation can be avoided, which would make in a 1-2 week sidelining. If there is inflammation, it will be really tough for Clevinger to pitch this post season. As someone who had rotator cuff tendinitis, I know first hand how debilitating it can be.
On another note, the Giants have quietly possibly found their Centerfielder of the future:

I suppose it’s better than having played one more in SD at a time when the Pads were smoking hot)
My vote is yes for one additional reason: if you're an inferior team, then I think your chances to win a particular game go up (even if only marginally) if the game is shortened. The theory being that the more outs in a game, the more time for the superior team to prove its superiority. Thus, 7 inning DHs are better than 2 9-inning games. Who knows, though . . . just a theory.
But in truth, the Padres have ownage on Giants this season. Gyros could get swept. I don't think 1-3 will do it (even if the Giants can win today). Fun season and am so glad MLB played (and gutted it out).

Giants are finished. Now 28-28. Hard to imagine them getting in playoffs with anything less than 2-2 against a Padres team they have beaten one time in 6 tries so far.
Trailing by one in the 11th, they sac bunted Dubon to 3rd. Rockies then IBB'd Ruf and Slater hit into DP to end the game. In the 10th they had bases loaded and one out, tied at 4 and couldn't get winning run in.
Brutal loss.

I thought Flores had hit it out for a walk off. Then Story saved the game with not just a great stop but outstanding throw home.
On a big hole now

I was following the Gamecast and thought "I don't like Dickerson as the lead runner cuz he's so slow." Could they have pinch run someone with more speed?
RE: Off topic: MLB -

No they couldn’t. But maybe after one batter don’t know that
Dickerson is not so slow however

The rule is you can pinch run. I remember that from an earlier game. But the Giants had run through their bench. I think he was the runner in the 10th. Ruf was last guy on bench and they used him to PH for Robertson in the 11th. Had they run for Dickerson (and I agree with Bob he isn’t slow) with a pitcher, Ruf would have been wasted as he would have taken Dickersons spot in left.

Thanks on the rule and the explanation
Thought I had read it before the season

Plus, Dickerson made a very good base running move on Flores's fly to the wall - he tagged up and made it to third on a semi-close play. Now, it didn't work out ultimately, but I wonder how many runners would have been sufficiently off 2B to ensure scoring if the ball was not caught . . .

I sure thought that was out when he hit it. What a frustrating game.....

Let’s see how Pads play it. As for 7 vs 9, I get your point. But I think it benefits the team with the better starting pitchers going that day. Cause they can get a 7 inning CG.
Gausman was good again today. But he has a hard time getting to the 7th. Throws a lot of pitches.

Well...the Giants were 1-2 in their home games against the Padres. One of the losses was by two runs. The other loss they were tied after 9 innings. And some of the major offensive players for the Giants at the time were Jaylin Davis, Joe McCarthy, Hunter Pence, Tyler Heineman at C and Pablo Sandoval. The game they won, three of those players were the only guys to have 0 hits. The other starters, all now current starters, all had hits. This was right in the middle of the 8-16 stretch to start the year.
They might actually do okay against the Padres.

Yeah, well, I'd rather have Panda than the Smoak guy they picked up when dumping Pablo . . .

Too bad about that Smoak guy. Hit 38 HRs and was an All-Star in 2017. Hit 22 HRs last year. This year? Zip.
I like the utility infielder, Daniel Robertson. Couldn't do much with Tampa Bay, but hitting .350, OPS of .785. Has made some sterling plays in the field. Former 1st round pick of the A's.
