Totally agree with both.

Apparently California high school girl's volleyball still plans to have a "winter" season.  And volleyball clubs still plan to have a "winter" season.  I personally think it won't happen and there will be thousands of disappointed kids with college coaches scratching their heads about how potential prospects are progressing.

The state is divided into 10 sections, with the Southern Section being by far the largest. It comprises seven counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino.

As of Tuesday, the Southern Section was still hoping that girls’ volleyball would be able to compete over the winter. Assistant Commissioner Mike Middlebrook said that the girls’ calendar would remain without adjustment, including a “hard and fast” March 12-13 timeline for the Southern Section finals.

“If we have at least four counties playing by then, we would be able to run a championship,” he said.

Per a zoom session with the Santa Clara coach Stanford will be playing Santa Clara on Jan 22. If so the team must be practicing somewhere

Please SC match be live streamed.  I've waited too long.  Is this considered an exhibition match or an official pre-conference match?  If pre-conference, it might be the only one by a top 25 DI program.

Here is an article about the men's volleyball program along with some quotes:

https://volleyballmag.com/stanford-mens-volleyball-010921/

Santa Clara county’s COVID status is currently in the most restrictive purple tier, at 99% ICU capacity as of January 7. As a result, the team has not yet been able to meet.

“We are one of the rare cases in the country in that we were not able to come back ever,” Kosty lamented. “The fall sports got a short stint before their seasons were canceled, but we never got that short stint. So I have not seen our guys in person since last March of 2020.”

“Guys who committed to Stanford volleyball still haven’t had a Stanford experience yet. There’s a lot of things to look forward to. We’re preparing them to get onto campus and COVID protocols and be ready to start training when Santa Clara county allows us to do that.”

Kosty is in a difficult spot politically, having to deal with Stanford’s athletic administration while hoping to save the men’s volleyball program. He declined most interviews in 2020.

“2021 is a new season, a new year. We’ve established our ‘Save Stanford volleyball’ campaign. We’re now establishing our 2021 schedule and season, and the scary thing is that we’re still scheduling. Some guys are scheduling for this month still,” he said.

Arizona playing another team in a scrimmage game tomorrow 1/16.  I don't know if Stanford even started practice yet.  This Cardinal WVB season is getting strange.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 01-18-2021

Four days to the start of the season and no one has any idea what is going on with the team.  Everyone assumes they have at least started practice but there has been no hard confirmation of that.

There is no PAC-12 schedule yet.  I assume Stanford's home game locations and times will have to be listed as TBD. I'm guessing Stanford may play all its matches on the opponents court.

In this interview today the Oregon coach says Stanford is practicing on grass which makes no sense at all to me. I've played on grass. It is a surface you are more likely to injure yourself because of the irregularities. Obviously you can't dive on grass.

The Oregon coach says it's unclear if Stanford WVB will participate this season. That would be a real bummer for me.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 01-18-2021

Why can’t you dive on grass?

I’m just reading guesses the same as you probably

However I just looked and usc UCLA and Washington don’t have schedules posted

Yes all A mystery

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 01-18-2021

Well you could take your body down to the grass to dig a ball.  But it would be a totally different dive than on an indoor court and require a different technique.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Jamesy - 01-19-2021

PAC-12 just posted the WVB schedule and still says we play at USC this weekend. https://pac-12.com/article/2021/01/15/pac-12-releases-conference-only-schedule-upcoming-womens-volleyball-season

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - oldalum - 01-19-2021

No, our first 4 matches are canceled

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 01-19-2021

So if we start in March we can qualify for the NCAAs.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Spiny_Norman - 01-19-2021

Something else that will be different about this season for Stanford - for the first time in 31 years, Denise Corlett will not be there. You just cannot easily replace that much experience.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 01-19-2021

Because we need news. From something I subscribe to:

McClure would be one of Stanford’s outside hitters and redshirt-freshman Caitie Baird the other. The middles will be freshman Annabelle Smith and redshirt-freshman McKenna Vicini, the setter sophomore Selina Xu, sophomore Kendall Kipp — “she’s a rock star right now,” Hambly said — is on the right side, and the libero is freshman Elena Oglivie.

McClure is planning on joining Teach for America.

The team had a 3.85 GPA.

Both Men and Women VB teams hope to practice side by side outdoors on sports courts.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 01-19-2021

Why Annabelle Smith and not Holly Campbell at MB?  Is Campbell hurt?

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 01-19-2021

Yes sir Campbell is. Also Leilah Smith as we suspected

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 01-19-2021

https://volleyballmag.com/stanford-cancels-volleyball-weekends-011921/

The Cardinal, the two-time defending national champion and winner of three of the last four, canceled this weekend’s Pac-12 matches at USC, the next weekend’s that were scheduled against Colorado at Stanford, and the weekend after that at Arizona is in serious jeopardy.

For that matter, Stanford, which has yet to practice indoors, may not play until late next month, Hambly said.

“I think we’re five weeks away, probably, from being able to play,” Hambly said...

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 01-19-2021

This is my prediction.   Stanford plays the minimum number of matches, ten, to qualify for the NCAA tournament.  The record will be 7-3 or 8-2.  They will be the #47 or #48 seed in a 48 team bracket.

The #1 seeded regional team they play in the first round will be screaming at the top of their lungs how unfair it is they have to play Stanford in the first round.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - 81alum - 01-19-2021

Wow, that is a very, very young starting lineup.
