Well, I’m no fan of “Dieter”.  1 of the 5 makes sense- resigning Gausman. The other 4 - trading Solano, signing Hendrix, signing Profar and signing Alex Wood do not.  

Solano won’t bring much. So keep him as a utility player with some pop.  Alex Wood is injury prone with below average stuff.  Profar has done very little last couple years. Hendrix will cost too much.  And he will burn out, just a question of when

Of the 4 - Profar is the most “defensible”. 

After Gausman, second most important  resigning Smyly.

Solano batted .330 and .326 the last two years. Had he had enough ABs, that would have been enough to lead the league last year.  As it was, he was 5th in the NL this year.  Yeah, I think I'd keep him.

Prefer to develop a closer from within.  Moronta coming back.  If sound he is a possibility. I like Baragar.  A lot.  Attacks hitters. Needs to gain more confidence in his secondary pitches.  

I’d start Coonrod in AAA and he’d be my closer there.  See if he can handle it day in day out. I’d give him plenty of room to fail.  He has very nasty stuff. Work with him to gain command and confidence. He’s the best arm they had out of the pen this year. Kapler badly misused him. He was not ready to be the guy closing the most important game of the season.  Had Coconut Oil Speedo Man simply used anyone but Watson up four in the 7th (9th in a real game) Game 1, hed have had Watson available in game 2. An easy decision.  Which he blew. Giants would have beat the Dodgers, slipped past a beat up SD team and would be tied 2-2 with Atlanta in the NLCS. I have a vivid imagination......

Vivid, but I like it, Lex. I agree re Moronta; he's my favorite for closer. Coonrod has the best arm of the bunch, but he's not consistent at all and I wonder if he suffers the Strickland malady. Also agree re Baragar. He is in attacking mode which I like better than the nibbler. Smyly and Gausman are both prime signees. Each are kinda injury prone, but they might get lucky. Luck is going to be important for the G's next year.

Actually...Solano is an over-30 second baseman who has hit .325 or better in two consecutive years with at least 200 plate appearances.

Here's a list of all of the other MLB players who fit that description.  You might notice something unusual about the names.  They're all in the Hall of Fame:

Actually...Solano is an over-30 second baseman who has hit .325 or better in two consecutive years with at least 200 plate appearances.

Well, he’s a tad short of the HOF.  He’s not strong defensively.  Hopefully they keep DH in 2021.  It certainly will be in the NL in ‘22.  Solano is a keeper as I said.  In part for his bat.  But in part because he wouldn’t bring much in return.  Now if he continues to hit and there’s a normal ‘21 season he could have some value at the deadline.

I like Joe a lot, but i don't agree with that.  Hornsby let the NL in OPS for 11 years.  Joe did it twice.  In fact, every single one of Hornsby's career figures are considerably better than Joe Morgan's, except for walks and stolen bases, where Joe smoked Rajah.  Joe led the league 13 times in major hitting categories over his career.  Rajah led the league 63 times in those same categories.  Joe was a better fielder.  Rajah lead the league in WAR 12 times, Joe led six.

It’s  2020.  Platoon....
I looked up both. Flood won a gold glove every year from 63-69.  Which surprised me, cause Willie, of course.  Willie won 13 or 14.  From the first year it was offered through ‘68.  So I guess they gave it to two CF’s.

Flood was the equal of Mays in center. Pinson had more power. I take Flood. Hornsby was probably the greatest right hand hitter of all time. It’s not close Bobbbbbbbbbbbb.

I suspect that is the greatest group of GG outfielders ever.  To me the biggest difference today is arms.  You just don’t see many strong armed outfielders anymore.

Laureano's arm is pretty special but his defense is short of his arm.  

Betts catch/throw in game 5 of NLCS was pretty special

Judge reminds me a bit of Dave Parker in RF

baseball today is also much more station-to-station

Station to station and jogging around the bases.  The three true outcomes take over that are making the game so much less interesting.
