We win 75-55 and take home the Pac-12 Tournament Championship! We righted the ship in the last quarter after a frustrating 3rd quarter, outscoring UCLA 21-15 in the last ten.

Williams definitely gets the game ball, she started hot and kept on going, finishing with 26 points including 6/7 from long range.

Lexie finished with a quiet 24 points. I didn't realize she had that many until one of the announcers remarked on it and I checked the box score, she provided a much needed second scorer to complement Kiana.

Haley was the third double digit scorer with 10 points, but she grabbed 13 rebounds for a double-double. Everyone else didn't have too much of an offensive night though Anna's defense and taking charges helped stem some of the Bruins' momentum.

Onyenwere finished with 30 points and Osborne had 13 points, but unlike our loss, we held everyone else in check this time around, as the rest of their team had a combined 14 points on 4/18 shooting.

Another key was limiting their second chance opportunities; we limited UCLA to under double digit offensive rebounds, which I think was an accomplishment.

I think this game is good for us going into the NCAA tournament, in the sense that the first half showed what we are capable of when we are playing well, but the second half and especially the 3rd quarter demonstrated that we still have work to do and we can lapsed back into bad habits if we are not careful. Fortunately, our large lead helped us, but next time, we might not be as lucky.

The fouls didn't help us in the 3rd quarter but our halfcourt offense slowed dramatically down and everyone was taking half looks at the basket and then passing the ball. Play smart, but also confidently, and we were able to regain that mojo in the fourth quarter fortunately.

A few points:

Kiana Williams set a championship game record of six 3's in the title game. She also finished #2 all time for a single tournament record of points scored in a tournament, with 73 over three games, only trailing Liz Galdiera's 75 in WSU's run to the title game in 2014. In Willaims' career, I believe she will end up #4 all time for points scored in the Pac-12 Tournament, trailing only Candice Wiggins, Nneka Ogwumike, and Sabrina Ionescu. What a testament to the greatness of Kiana Williams.

Does anyone know how many more threes she'll need to overtake the program record from Candice Wiggins?

Thanks Farm for the summary! What an outstanding first half, and then we did enough in the second half. The difference between this game and the last game against UCLA:

Loss against UCLA: three point shooting: 2-10 (Williams 1-3)
Today against UCLA: three point shooting: 10-21 (Williams 6-7)

It seems to me that every game in which we hit a few threes in the first quarter, it sets the tone and we coast to an easy win. Every game when we struggle with our three point shooting, the game is either very competitive or we lose, as we did twice. Those threes open up the floor for the motion and the cuts to work, and without them everything just slows down and clogs up.

Now, when did we start making our threes consistently? About the time we returned home and the players had the opportunity to work on their shots. And so it is no accident that the return home has fueled the best stretch of WBB at Stanford in years.

My theory is that we would have been this good all year long if the year were a normal one, but we did amazingly well under trying circumstances, and as circumstance improve so do we.

Never has another Stanford team deserved the championship as much as this one. I am so pleased as a fan, but more pleased for them.

2. She hit the tying 3 today but it was waved off by Brink's moving screen.

A good win for the Cardinal. The best thing of all is apparently none of the Stanford players got hurt and the thug ball UCLA persona never showed up.

The only thing that worries me a little based on this game is if some team has a player who is good at the mid-range fade-away jumper. We weren't close to blocking many of Onyenwere's shots.

It would have been nice to have had a great 3rd quarter and cruise to a blowout win. BUT, I think the poor 3rd quarter and the fight we showed in the 4th quarter will serve us well in the NCAA tournament. UCLA had momentum going into the 4th and had us in foul trouble. But then Lexie and Jones took over and made big bucket after big bucket. That took the heart out of UCLA and they seemed worn down by the end. I do wish them well in the tournament and Onyenwere is such a great player but I think their short bench will be a problem for them at the end of games.

Congrats ladies! Another impressive win. UCLA is pretty good, but our depth is awesome. We sub-in with Lacey, Jump, Prechtel, and Bilibi and often our lead increases. When they sub one of their starters it's a big step down.
- Another great game by Ki. If she keeps competing and filling it up like this, look out.
- Anna played superb. The D on Osborne, the charges, the loose balls and rebounds...tremendous.
- 24 points for Lexi on 17 shots. Fantastic.
- 13 boards for Haley, doing lots of the dirty work.

The only head scratcher for me is how we guarded Onyenwere. She got 30 against us! Haley just isn't quick enough and we also had Prechtel and Bilibi on her. I just don't get that. Why not Lexie and Lacie who can matchup with both size and speed? Is it the "she's gonna get hers anyway, so let's clamp down on everyone else" strategy? Unless it's a small guard who Anna can take, we struggle to stop the other team's best player.

Tonight : 6

100% agree 81, especially the comment about being able to get shots up in Maples. That was a big help to our shooting. The players have also alluded to that.

I agree about Haley not being the right player to guard Onyenwere. I think Lexie would have been the best choice. But Tara has coached more PAC-12 championship teams than I have so I believe she had good reasons for her decision.

The problem is UCLA has 2 superstars: Onyenwere and Osborne. Hard to lock down both of them. We settled for locking down everyone else, and it worked. With a 20-pt. victory, hard to ask for better.

I'm not sure our defense was bad on Onyenwere, she just happens to be one of the best players in the country. She is both very quick and has great strength and body control. Put a Hull on her and she can drive and finish with contact. Put a post on her and she has a quick and very high jump shot that is extremely difficult to block.

Just an awesome win. Ucla got fired up and played so well 3rd qtr. Then we got tougher. Lexie and Williams were brilliant.
Love what Tara said post game about our toughness.

Even though we won by 20, we have room for improvement. We had 17 turnovers, many of which were forced passes to covered players. We had only 1 block and, of course, 18 fouls are too many. Even if many of the fouls called were questionable, a team has to adjust to how the game is being called.

That being said, our margins of victory in this tourney were 39, 34, and 20. That's an average margin of victory of 31. Pretty impressive.

If you look at our last 6 games, we have won by an average of, again, 31 points. Consistent and solid.

Wow, great win, even if I was about to throw a shoe at the TV when that big lead got cut down to 10 or 11. Agree with those above who suggested maybe trying Lacie or Lexie on Onyenwere. I'm not sure she is all that stoppable when she plays like she did today. Williams has been fantastic. Mid-way through the season I posted that she was just not that great because she had too many way off games compared to the "on" games. Well that is not tru now - she is a star lately, the best version of herself on court with great shooting, few TOs for how much she has the ball, great leadership, all that good stuff.

Great game from Lexie too. When things got close she was assertive on drives, made a few and got to the FT line. Hayley did not score that much but her rebounding was key, so good game for her to except a few TOs.

Agree with those who say that "intentional" foul on Brink was bogus. That was fairly ridiculous. I thought the refs did not have their best game. We did foul too much, no doubt, but there were also a few that given what they allowed UCLA to do should not have been called.

I'm glad Osborne was able to return. Did Wilson crowd her too much or did she kick her feet forward hoping to draw a foul call and ended up landing on Wilson???? Unfortunate in any case and I hope it does not limit her in the NCAAs.

Anyone know the all-tourney team?

This observation underscores how much we are capable of; we are winning by double digits, yet we can still easily identify issues where we can still improve. The team will get some much deserved time off before the NCAA tournament starts, but Tara and the staff will have a list of items they can work on before the first game.
