I think we just got really cold from all over. Didn't help that Kiana had a bad wheel likely causing her shot to swerve all over the place.
On a different topic, did anyone see Cameron Brink's reaction right after she flew off the court (and barely saved the ball) after getting checked by Belibi going for the same board. Seemed like she turned around and gave Belibi the glare and then threw her hands out front in a pressing down motion. I'm probably filling in too many blanks with that interpretation so wondering if anyone else had a clearer picture. I guess it's possible it was some inside joke but i couldn't detect a smile before the camera panned away.
Another Brink observation, has she been shoulder shimmying before every free throw this whole season? I just noticed it and now I can't stop noticing each time. =)
Anyway, I think the biggest positive from this game (other than the win) is that our halfcourt defense was outstanding.

My impression, maybe wrong, was that Cam was a bit hot thinking she'd been fouled until she turned around and saw it was Fran she'd collided with.
I'll have to look at the play again. I wonder if Fran was pushed into Cam?

Why no Lexie the last five minutes or so? Injury? First Hanna, which made OSU take off the zone, then Lacie. Very odd not to have Lexie out there. Hope she’s OK.

Well now, a win is a win, so advance and be glad but that was not a great game at all.
Very good game by Hayley and Cam. Defense stopped Mack well but overall was not that great, although to be fair, OK State scored way too many easy baskets off turnovers and no defense can stop that. The bad turnovers early where they scored let them stick close enough to make us work. Don't give those up and we are probably up 20 at the half. I love the threes but hate that we rely on them so much. If we were cold, this could have been an L. OK State is all right, but in the P-12 they are middle of the pack, nothing special.
I sure hope Kiana is ok, not hampered by whatever injury that was. This was the first game in a while where she was off shooting, and her late game shots were not going in, maybe due to a bad wheel.
Seems to me the second game in the NCAAs has give us trouble more than expected fairly often. Somehow it seems to be a nervous or pressing game, perhaps because it is more a do not get upset this early feel but the team you play is often pretty decent. I hope this was just a get it out of the system game because that level of play will not be enough in later rounds.

Well a win is a win but why does it seem so hard, and where would we be without our 2 great starting guards?
Okie St was very athletic and really took it to us on the fast breaks. And ouch, all those turnovers.
Haley likes to take the dribble drive but I thought she was more effective when she could post up her defender.
I thought Fran played pretty well down low.
Let’s hope Ki heals fast. Her shot was definitely not the same after her injury.
Onward!

I said a long time ago play Jones in the offensive post whenever possible. She can switch to a 4 on defense. Good call Q.

She did have the bloody nose early on IIRC. Maybe some lingering pain?

All I know is two down, four to go. I care too much to ever truly enjoy it until we win the next game. Great to see Haley step up with a great game when we needed her. That is the strength of this team. Let's hope the depth keeps revealing itself for four more!
Cheers,
Pete F.

Tara on Williams' injury:
"She tweaked her ankle, so she will have it in a bucket. Hopefully she will be ok for Saturday...that gives her plenty of time to be ready."
Tara noted that this was a "C" game. Wilson inadvertently called it a "loss." They are aware that the turnovers in particular made this less than our best game.

Article in Chron this morning quotes that "C" game comment. Then goes on to quote more from the presses, including noting "A reporter asked Van Derveer if that's Stanford's "C" game -- an 11 point victory over a team that finished tied for second in the big 12 -- what would Stanford's "A" game look like? 'I hope we see that,' Van Derveer said. . . .". . . the tone in the locker room was that we can play a lot better."

I am glad to hear Tara's comments. I agree we were playing significantly below our best and we still won by 11 against a solid, if not great team. We would have won by 20 even at a "B" level last night, but she knows that a "C" level beats OK State, but won't get it done against a Louisville or UConn or Baylor; they are just too good and will make us pay dearly for the mistakes we made. We'll have to clean up the errors and execute better, which we can and have done.
Hopefully with a few days' rest, Kiana's ankle will be okay and we can get it done this weekend. I think that we might not play until Sunday; ESPN has the two Alamo region games on their Sunday schedule, which will give us an extra day of rest if that turns out to be the case.
I am hoping that we got our "bad" game out of our systems and play at a more consistently high level going forward

If we get MO ST, it will be interesting to see Cameron guarding Gardiner. That gal is a tank.

Missouri State looked good, winning 64-39. Gartner had a tough game, going 1/6 for 4 points and no brinks and 3 fouls. The difference seems to have been Ruffridge, who nailed 5 threes and got 20 points.
