What a saga this guy's career has been...

I'm assuming there is a back story, but none of it is public.  The information I know doesn't really qualify as a saga because there isn't much to the story.  He barely played and then he was mostly gone until he was completely gone.  The fact of his departure is really unfortunate because the team could use another DL next year, even one without a lot of game time experience.

Next year play the kids.

RE: 2022 Stanford Football Personnel - TrumpCard - 02-16-2022

Next year play kids from the wrestling team in addition to every DL because there aren’t enough DLs even with freshmen.

WR Graham not in the roster
Keck is on the roster. On scholarship??

I just went through it quickly - will do a more thorough examination later - and noted the same thing. Graham is gone, and Keck is back. Which means we are still two over on scholarship numbers (assuming that Fields counts). Alejandro Chavez, a walk-on long snapper, also gone.

Interesting to note that there are no more outside linebackers or defensive tackles as position groups anymore. With the switch to 4-3, there is "Defensive Line" and "EDGE"; and after years, I still don't understand why it is always in all-caps.

Some on the other site believe Fields not on scholarship. I would bet he is

Thorpe off the roster

RE: 2022 Stanford Football Personnel - Phogge - 02-18-2022

Jim Thorpe? From Carlisle?

Who is Alejandro Chavez? I don't think that name was ever on the roster.

RE: 2022 Stanford Football Personnel - newguy - 02-18-2022

given the dearth of DL's, has Coach Shaw considered asking any OL's to play defense?

Oops. You are right. My bad. He is not on the roster now because he is a 2022 freshman and not one of the three already on campus. He will be on the roster beginning in the fall.

If Keck and Fields are both on scholarship that makes 87. Not sure how the math/scholarship situation is working out.

If someone at Stanford Hospital could conjoin two DBs and make them one DL, that would help with two elements of roster management.

Wouldn't help. They both would miss the tackle.

Friends:

Some long overdue adjustments to the grid.

* Given our switch to a 4-3 base defense, I have changed the positions up front from DT/DE/OLB to DL/Edge. (I did not capitalize all letters in EDGE as I continue to not understand why that is done, and think it is weird.) Predictably, all players who were previously listed as either DT or DE are now listed as DL, except for two: sophomore Aaron Armitage and sophomore walk-on Aristotle Taylor, who were DE in the old scheme and are now listed at Edge. All OLB in the old scheme are now listed at Edge.

* Thunder Justice Keck, who is one of those former OLB now listed at Edge, had been in the transfer portal, but removed his name and elected to return to Stanford for his sixth year, so I added him back to the grid.

* Two players return from their LDS mission, and have been added to the grid: sophomore walk-on WR Kale Lucas, and sophomore walk-on OG Matthew Moore.

* Two players have hung it up: senior wide receiver Marcus Graham and senior walk-on punter Alexander Thorpe. Graham's retirement, while understandable given his lack of PT, is a bit mysterious given that he is on scholarship, unless he graduated early. Nevertheless, it does help our scholarship count issue, which is still unresolved; even with Graham's retirement, Keck's return to the team still leaves us at two over the limit given the incoming frosh scholarships.

* There have been several position switches. Sophomore walk-on Will Gibson switched from OG to C, junior walk-on Logan Berzins switched from OG to C/OG (which means he is now listed with the centers), sophomore Jimmy Wyrick switched from CB to S (which makes some sense given that he was the nickleback last year), sophomore Austin Uke switched from OT to OG, and sophomore walk-on Danny McFadden switched from WR to RB.

* I also updated the transfer destinations for those players in the transfer portal who found a new football home. It can be found on the details entry just below the grid on the first page of this thread.

As always, I welcome any corrections.

thanks for your time and effort, Langdude.  we appreciate it.

RE: 2022 Stanford Football Personnel - TrumpCard - 05-13-2022

Thanks, Langdude.  That's some interesting roster imbalance.

With 9 edge players and 8 inside linebackers on scholarship for a total of 3 starting spots, I wonder whether Jorgenson and Keck are returning to walk-on status.  If there is a shortage of scholarships (and maybe there isn't because people are leaving or retiring who haven't announced), it simply does not make sense to offer scholarships to players who don't start and who play positions with roster depth.

That would be a total of FIVE starting spots thanks to the 4-3 switch. Four in nickel.

EDGE DL DL EDGE
   SAM MIKE WILL

The SAM will likely be someone in the Edge group, but could be a heavier/more pass-rush-inclined ILB. Curtis Robinson would've been a perfect example. MIKE and WILL are ILBs. (I also think we shouldn't be using "ILB" anymore and instead just "LB" - or even better "SAM/MIKE/WILL" - but that's the fault of the official roster.)

For the record, I believe Keck is not on scholarship anymore (returning as a grad student) but Jorgensen still is. If accurate, that means this year we will have just two non-specialist walk-ons on scholarship - the lowest number in many many years.
