It'll be Auburn, as the Tigers take that last match 2&1. Anyone have some good analysis to break down that matchup?
FWIW, and I know the round score isn't all that important in match play, but here it is for our five today:
Heck -1 (71)
Englemann -1 (66 through 17)
Zhang +4 (76)
Krauter +2 (69 through 17)
Seay: -3 (60 through 16)

I didn't like that UCLA's Compos was going to force the Auburn player to make a 5 inch putt. I understand mind-game strategy but it seemed a little too much for me.
Stanford has a deep team. There's no consistent superstar you can bank on. Maybe that's the nature of this format.

I think we're going beat the crap outta Auburn this afternoon. Rose is gonna be looking for some kind of revenge she's played two poor rounds (by her standards) in a row. I almost feel sorry for her opponent.

Thank you for this info Hulk01. I was working on similar when I saw your post.
On paper we look like the strongest team in the tournament. I'm not a serious golfer and don't understand the nuances that make ranking less important in match play than stroke play. I saw one post earlier today to the effect that birdies count heavily in match play. Also, player resilience/mindset seems a big factor. I'd really appreciate if some of the serious golfers on here could elaborate.
Also, perhaps someone would explain Coach Walker's strategy in pairings.

Pairings are up:
Seay vs. Telfer
Englemann vs. Schofill
Krauter vs. Sinz
Heck vs. Foster
Zhang vs. O’Berry
BC
Based on the rankings, we should have a clear advantage with Seay, Krauter and Zhang. Heck has a slight advantage over Foster. The only place where we are at a disadvantage is Englemann vs. Schofill.
Of course match play doesn’t care about where we should have an advantage.

Based on their 72-hole totals on this course over the past days, it will be closer than their rankings indicate:
Relative to par:
Seay: +9 Telfer: +8
Engelmann: +7 Schofill: +7
Krauter: +7 Sinz: +13
Heck: +8 Foster: +9
Zhang: -6 O'Berry: +12

Sure would be nice to see Stanford finally conquer the 1st hole. It has been statistically the hardest hole on the course for the field. Still, the team was +11 on #1 over the 4 stroke play rounds and then 4 of the 5 Stanford players bogeyed it in the quarters.
UPDATE - Stanford recorded par 4s on #1 in 4 of 5 matches and won the hole each time. Good start.

Your wish came true. Seay, Krauter, Heck, and Zhang all won the first hole while Englemann lost it.

Ask and ye shall receive :))))))))
Rose is 2 up through 2. It's early but she looks like a different player. I could see her doing a 6&5 number on her opponent

Yes, great start for Zhang. Match is now 2-1-2 in favor of the Cardinal. The fast start for four players on #1 has made the difference so far.

A bit of an aside at this point, but Oregon looks very good. And it looks they dispatched a previously
very strong San Jose State squad rather comfortably.

Sounds like there is a Stanford contingent at Grayhawk. I hear some good cheering for the Cardinal.
Zhang is playing like a national champion, 4 up after 4 holes. But Auburn was tough vs. UCLA. They were patient and made a nice comeback on the back 9. UCLA did not give them much of an opening, but Auburn was solid with pars and birdies. Let's keep the pressure on.
RE: WGolf @ National Championships -
Spiny_Norman - 05-24-2022
Seay is all square in her match but should be 2 up. She gave her opponent 2 holes by jacking 3 footers.
Heck just bogeyed the par 5 6th hole to fall to all square in her match.
Krauter and Englemann are both 1 down.
Zhang remains 4 up.
As Bob Papa just said, Stanford is looking for some momentum.
RE: WGolf @ National Championships -

I'm not worried. We have played much better on the back nine than the front nine all tournament. 6&5 for Rose might have been an understatement
RE: WGolf @ National Championships -
Spiny_Norman - 05-24-2022
I'm seeing some tired players. Of course the opponents are tired too. Got to maintain focus and energy.
Englemann starts the back 9 bogey, double bogey and is now 2 down. Stanford is going to need 2 wins from among Seay, Krauter and Heck.

You know what energizes a tired player? Making putts. Seay has now made three straight knee-knockers to take a 1 up lead with 5 to play.
Krauter is 1 up. Heck is all square. Zhang is cruising.
RE: WGolf @ National Championships -
BostonCard - 05-24-2022
Zhang is 6 up through 11, if she wins the 12th hole, she will win her match.
Seay and Krauter are each 1-up, Heck is all square, and Englemann is down 2.
