First time I have seen Houston, have to say I like what I see. Not yet a Canady, but she has a lot of movement on her ball and decent speed. Very happy to see long ball be more common than last year. We need that threat. Stanford's ability to bunt for a hit has become a real staple for Coach Allister.

Last year at Indiana, she was the Big 10 player of the year, with a .404 average, 23 home runs, 68 RBIs, and a .942 slugging percentage (in 62 games).
This year, she has a .162 average, 0 home runs, 2 RBIs, and a .216 slugging percentage (in 17 games). She has only 6 hits this season. She does reach base a lot -- she has drawn 19 walks and 8 HBPs, so she has a very good on base percentage of .516. But production with the bat just hasn't been there. Is she injured, just in a slump, or what?
Could be a few factors. Sounds like she has a different mission; e.g., just get on base. Between the walks and HBPs, she's been on base 33 times -- the next closest on the team has reached base 10 times through that route. She's second on the team in both runs and on-base percentage, so it sounds like she's doing well in the leadoff spot. At the same time, she's struck out 20 times, most on the team by a margin (second most is 16). Other factor -- dangerous hitter, perhaps the other teams are being exceedingly careful around her. Or Big Ten pitching isn't as strong. Might be a slump. She's up to .224 as of this writing.

I'd go with Big Ten pitching.

The Kal SB game started with a strike against the Stanford hitter before a pitch was thrown. Anyone know what that was about?

Watching NiJaree pitch is so great, and she has produced at this level since Day 1 on the Farm (and is still only a sophomore). I think she is on a trajectory to be the best player in program history (yes, even better than Jessica Mendoza in terms of performance for Stanford softball). Jessica had a fantastic professional and Olympic career, and has had a great media career too. Surely, NiJaree is, if not the frontrunner, will be in the final list for National Player of the Year.

Your comments on NiJaree are so correct. It is fun to watch her pitch. She is clearly a very tough competitor and loves being out there doing her thing. She has the lowest era for any pitcher throwing more than 70 innings and leads the nation in strikeouts.

Cardinal relatively easily get past Cal 7-4 on Sunday to sweep the Golden Bears in Berkeley. Cardinal dominated this series from start to finish, playing a really complete series in all facets of the game.
Stanford and UCLA tied atop Pac-12 standings at 3-0, with Washington and Oregon two games back in the loss column.
