Given that we're closing in on the Super Bowl, I thought I'd pose a Super Bowl question. 

The 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens 33-19 a few weeks back. It wasn't close to the worst regular season loss by a Super Bowl champion (cart waaaaaaay before the horse, I know).  Five Super Bowl champions lost a game during the regular season by at least 30 points. Can you name the five? Here's the set up:

49ers lost 40-8 to the Eagles (32)
_________ lost 48-17 to the Patriots (31)
_________ lost 31-0 to the Bills (31)
_________ lost 43-13 to the Texans (30)

The really interesting part is that three of the losing teams ended up beating the above winners in the playoffs. For extra credit, name the three winning teams.

The 40-8 game featured SF and Philadelphia.  The lasting memory of that beauty was Young stomping around saying evil things about Seifert after he was pulled from the game.  That was a classic “laid an egg” game.

Correct! And a hint...two of the other teams involve the same great quarterback.

Buccaneers lost 38-3 to the Saints (35) in 2020

Raiders lost 48-17 to the Patriots (31) in 1976
Patriots lost 31-0 to the Bills (31) in 2003

Tom Brady is on the list twice, for the Buccaneers loss and the Patriots loss.

The Raiders loss is interesting because it was their only loss in 1976. They beat the Patriots 24-21 in the playoffs.

The Buccaneers were swept by the Saints in the regular season, but Tampa Bay beat the Saints in the playoffs 30-20. Brees threw three INTs, though the Saints were favored by 2.5.

The Patriots beat the Bills in the 2003 playoffs, 31-0.

Those are all correct.  The ESPN article said that Tara had more wins than all but five teams, but I can't find the fifth team.  Louisiana Tech was ahead of her until recently, but they've been bad the last couple of years, and I think they are just shy of 1200.  Texas has been doing well, but it had a fair number of wins to catch up.  Otherwise, few teams are even in the neighborhood.

This list is from the end of 2022, Tennessee, UConn, and Stanford had already cleared 1203, and James Madison was only a handful of games away.  I don't think LaTech has won 29 games the last couple seasons, or Texas 46.

So I think Tara has more wins than all but four programs, and for one of the programs, most of the wins are hers!

You already have Willis. Carlton Williamson and Bryant Young were also Niners their entire careers but not sure if HOFers. Makes me realize how few really good pro players played for just one team.
