Xu has tied thru 8 and Ganne is only down 1 thru 8.

Looks like Oregon is close to defeating LSU

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - SkiBum80 - 05-21-2024

All 3 other Pac12's leading their matches.
2 of them against higher ranked opponents.
C'mon Cardinal! Make it a complete Pac12 Semi's!

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - Spiny_Norman - 05-21-2024

Amazingly, Englemann goes to the final hole only 1 down despite making 0 birdies today.

Heck has closed out her opponent.

Xu has a 2 up lead with 4 to play.

Ganne has capitalized on back to back bogeys by her opponent to take a 1 up lead with 5 to play. This looks like it will be the key match.

Martin Sampedro worked hard to square her match at the 11th then lost the next 2 to a birdie and a par. She has more work to do.

Englemann wins 18 with a birdie then wins the 19th hole with an up and down par from the bunker! Stanford leads 2-0 and the 3rd and clinching point could come soon as Xu is 3 up with 3 to play and Ganne is 2 up with 3 to play.

If we can hang on, it will be an all PAC-12 semifinals!

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - cardfan77 - 05-21-2024

All PAC12 semis. This is fantastic

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - Spiny_Norman - 05-21-2024

Xu wraps up her match with a par on 16 and it's official - an all 12 semifinals. Stanford vs. USC and UCLA vs. Oregon.

Now we wait for the coaches to decide the matchups. As the higher seed, Stanford will get the option of naming its player for match 1 or deferring to USC to name their player first. Coach Walker in general likes to go first. And she definitely will change the order of play from this morning if she decides that the match ups warrant it. She has done it in years past.

Stanford vs. USC will start at 2:05. TV coverage begins at 3 pm.

Isn’t it more of an advantage to let the other team choose first, so you can react to them? How come Walker likes to go first?

Maybe she wants to force the opposing coach to react to her at least in matches 1 and 3.

USC has one player Cindy Kou who has struggled a bit this week. She shot 78-75 and then sat out the 3rd round as the coach played a substitute. She was back in round 4 and shot 72. It was interesting to see the USC coach put her in the anchor position this morning where she lost. I guess the strategy there was to frontload the first 4 slots with the best players this week and hope to get 3 wins from them. That worked out. USC does have a strong squad.

Last year when USC beat Stanford, these were the matchups:
Xu (Stan) defeated Park (USC) 2&1
Kou (USC) defeated Ganne (Stan) 2&1
Wang (USC) defeated Seay (Stan) 2&1
Englemann (Stan) was 1 up through 17 on Avery (USC)
Navarrosa (USC) defeated Zhang 2&1

USC returned everyone except Wang and replaced her with Bailey Shoemaker, a frosh playing at All American level.

Stanford returned everyone except for Seay and Zhang and replaced them with Heck and Martin Sampedro. This is going to be like a classic heavyweight fight.

Matchups now posted.

Match 1 - Heck vs. Avery (All American vs. All American)
Match 2 - Englemann vs. Kou
Match 3 - Martin Sampedro vs. Shoemaker (frosh vs. frosh)
Match 4 - Ganne vs. Navarrosa
Match 5 - Xu vs. Park in a rematch from last year

I wonder if it's because she can pick our player for the first match which is an important position, and she also gets to decide the last two matchups (among the 2 players each left), which allows her to set 3 matches though constrained by the other coaches choices? Just a thought

Time for semi-final revenge against the Toejams.

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - ColoradoTree - 05-21-2024

* Englemann was the first to book her match, 6&5 over Kou.
* Martin Sampedro is 2 up on Shoemaker through 13.
* The other matches are all 1 up, Stanford leading in one (Ku over Park thru 12), and USC leading in two others (Avery over Heck thru 14 and Navarossa over Ganne thru 12)

So, while we're in a slightly better position, those three 1-up matches will be the difference. We'll see!

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - Madera86 - 05-21-2024

Heck now tied through 15. Come on, Cardinal!

RE: Stanford Women's Golf Spring 2024 - ColoradoTree - 05-21-2024

Heck won 15 to tie up her match! So, with the match being 1-0 Stanford:

Heck: A/S thru 15
Martin Sampedro: 2 up thru 14
Ganne: 1 down thru 13
Xu: 1 up thru 13

USC's path is there, but it's narrow, and it's getting narrower.

Sigh, Avery won 16, so Heck is 1 down again.

Whoever wins this match will play UCLA in the final, as the Bruins got past Oregon 3-2

Martiin S with 2 big lip outs.  So close.  GO CARD!

This is so close.  Now Martin S. puts it in the weeds.

It could be an all Pac-12 traitor final if we lose.
