Bottom 8, Cardinal up 6-1. Our pitchers had no-hit them through 6 innings.

The guy who keeps saying “Sazaki” is Robbie Loya. I don’t want to endure another 2 games (Let alone a whole season) of mispronunciation. I’m reaching out via IG but any support would be appreciated.

I made it to the last couple innings of yesterday's first game in Fullerton, and all of the second game.

Matt Scott was apparently gassed by the time I arrived, but he seems to have pitched well overall. Christian Lim had a no-hitter going through six innings when he was pulled from the second game. I'm guessing maybe he was on a pitch limit?

I don't know if Fullerton is expected to be bad this year -- they definitely had some fielding issues yesterday -- but it was a very encouraging start for Stanford's starting pitching.

Rintaro was as advertised. 3 for 9 with 5 RBIs during the double-header, including a double into the left-center gap in the second game that landed near the warning track

Sasaki starts off with a line drive single over SS. He’s now 4 for 10 in his D1 career. Nati and Reynolds get RBI singles T1 and we lead 3-0.

8-5 still in top of the 3rd, and both starters have been pulled. There’s still a lot of baseball left.

We pick up 3 more runs in the top of the 6th to go up 13-11. Pitching has stopped the bleeding so far, shutting them down the last two innings.

Speshyock (yes, I had to look up the spelling) has been a pleasant surprise, going from a 7.50 ERA (that’s what the announcer said) last year to really shutting the door, retiring 8 straight.

Stanford wins, 14-11.

Now 3-0 on the season, yet if the team should lose tomorrow they would rank no higher than 9th among ACC teams by winning percentage. A lot of ACC teams (yes, 8) are undefeated after concluding their opening weekends, though I have no idea how good their competition was.

If anyone is going to the game tomorrow and wasn’t watching the ESPN+ broadcasts, they mentioned that tomorrow is considered a “regular day” in terms of parking etc. They apparently took their Presidents Day holiday on Friday. That was my PSA for the day. :)

Game 4 has started quietly for our offense, going down in order.

Frosh Parker Warner (pitcher/OF) on the mound for his first collegiate appearance.

I see at least 4 players wearing compression sleeves on their throwing arms (Sasaki, Nati, Bates, MacDonald). I guess that’s a thing these days.

Bates has moved to SS today, while MacDonald is in CF. Saum DH-ing, and Lavin behind the plate.
