Well, at least that should take away the over confidence factor for the NCAAs. Better now than later…

Maybe, but I'm pretty confident.

Any idea why we were sent to Norman OK rather than Arizona?  The ACC has 2 #1-seeds, 3 #2-seeds, and a #3 seed, so I can see that they'd want to spread them out among the 6 regionals, but they put Cal in Arizona as the 6-seed and UNC in our regional as a 3-seed. (not that I'm complaining, temps can be pretty high in Phoenix! -- but May can be rainy in Norman)

It surprised most observers. A regional preview from the folks at the Golf Channel.

Quote:Stanford being sent to Norman is a shocker, as it’s more than double the distance of Gold Canyon from Stanford’s campus (1,619 miles to 769 miles). The trade-off for not getting eighth-ranked Arizona State as a host in the No. 2 slot is sixth-seeded host Oklahoma. Not that it should matter, as the top-ranked Cardinal have won each of their last 10 stroke-play competitions, including the ACC Championship, where they were upset by Wake Forest in the semifinals. Stanford is looking to advance to its 15th straight NCAA regional. If there’s a top-five seed on upset alert it could be Duke, which has dropped seven spots in the rankings since the end of the fall and was just 10th at ACCs. The Sooners are trying to qualify for nationals for the first time since 2018. Baylor squeaked into regionals with exactly a .500 winning percentage. Tulsa, under first-year head coach Mike Roters, added Romaine Masserey midseason and have climbed 35 ranking spots this spring while winning the American Athletic Conference title. The Golden Hurricane are looking for a third straight trip to nationals.

Thanks for updates

RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 - fullmetal - 05-05-2025

I think the scoring has paused for a bit -- looking at the weather, there should be some storms rolling in soon.

RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 - Spiny_Norman - 05-05-2025

Stanford was ok in the afternoon. No one went low, no one had a bad round. The scores were 70, 70, 71, 72 and 73 (the drop score).

Northwestern had its best round of the year topped off by a hole-out eagle on the 17th hole. The Wildcats cut Stanford's lead in half.

Stanford still will take a 5 shot lead into the final round. I suspect that they will try to complete the round tomorrow in the rain so that teams can head home. If however there is enough rain to cause standing water in the fairways and bunkers or on the greens or if there is lightning in the area, they will suspend play and likely complete the round on Wednesday.

With some teams still finishing up, here is where things stand.

Team
1. Stanford -16
2. Northwestern -11
3. Michigan State -2

Individual
T1. Ortengren -5
T4. Ganne -4
T6. Martin Sampedro -3
T6. Revuelta -3
T37. Xu +4

RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 - BostonCard - 05-06-2025

Northwestern with a rough start to their third round, going +6 through the first three or so holes.  We've gone -2, so the lead is up to 13 strokes.  Stanford now has the top three individual players (Revuelta in first, Ganne and Örtengren tied for second, along with Ohma from Baylor), with Martin Sampedro in fifth.

RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 - oldalum - 05-06-2025

Poor conditions, we've had two double bogeys already in about 3 holes played. Probably more of those to come. But we've also gotten 5 birdies (4 by Revuelta in the first 5 holes!) and an eagle. We just have to finish the round and we'll be in, that's all that matters. On the bright side, the wind, cold, and wet course are good practice for the championship in Carlsbad-- NOT!

RE: Stanford Women's Golf 2025 - Spiny_Norman - 05-06-2025

Stanford returned 3 players from last year's national championship team. But it's the frosh Ortengren and Revuelta who are leading the way at regionals. They are tied for the overall lead at -7 with 9 holes to play.

Stanford will qualify for nationals. No question of that. They are 30 shots clear of the 6th place team. But you want to see them work through the competition and the conditions to finish strong, like the #1 team that they are.

There are only about 2 hours of daylight remaining. Doubtful that every team is able to finish today. But Stanford's 5 players should get in their rounds.

Stanford was outstanding despite the weather.  Now we just have to focus on making the match play cut and then go get another Championship.

Stanford golfers finished 1,2,4,6, and 22.  Humongous performance.  GO CARD!

1) Stanford           -23
2) Northwestern    -14
3) Michigan St         -1
4) Oklahoma            E
5) Baylor               +3
==============
6) Tulsa               +15

So, Stanford finished 9 strokes above 2nd place and made the cut by 38 strokes.

In addition, freshman Andrea Revuelta won the individual title.

She got a late start to the spring season because of an injury. Since returning, she has finished 3rd, 1st (ACC) and 1st (NCAA regional). And a month ago she tied for 4th at the Augusta National Women's Amateur. She is currently the #8 ranked player in the country.

If she had been able to play all season, Revuelta would definitely be a candidate for freshman of the year (an award won by a Stanford player 3 of the last 4 years).

So, there's the possibility of her going pro. She's ranked higher than Rose when she went pro, correct?
