I never said we are "so much better", I was just countering the narrative that we were evenly matched. More first downs, more yards, and more points sure suggests that the two teams are not "evenly matched" which were the words you used.

There's a difference between saying that we ought to be beating a middle of the road FCS team more convincingly than we were, versus denying the fact that the closest they got (at the time) to scoring was a 4th and 8 at the Stanford 39 yard line and a missed 57 yard field goal, and that we were, in fact winning, outgaining them, and that the stats generally did not support your contention that the two teams were evenly matched.

Still a good effort, and the final throw was close to being complete.

Left the game after our third TD. Thump thump music waaay too loud. Did have fun doing pre-game with the band. After halftime they played "Come Join the Band", which made me very happy.
Stadium looked maybe 1/3 full at most. Many attendees not very engaged with the game, preferring to chat instead with other Reunion friends.
Glad we won, if not very impressively.

BYU scores a go-ahead TD with 1:47 left in the game! Up by 4.

EDIT: ND drives down to the BYU 9 yard line, but with 4 second left a pass into the end zone falls incomplete. The Stanford curse is not all powerful, but it is pretty potent.

Even at the time that card10 posted, we were winning (7-0), outgaining them, and at the time, the closest they came to scoring was a missed 54 yard field goal (ie, Elon made it to the 39 and was facing 4th and 8). That was not especially threatening.

Now, that doesn't mean we are good, or even mediocre; we are a very bad team (I will leave it to Matt to quantify it in excruciating detail tomorrow). But still, a bad P4 team should easily handle a middle of the road FCS team, so this is what I would expect from playing an overmatched FCS team that is 2-2 in the CAA. Given what teams like Wake Forest, Miami, and Notre Dame have done to us recently, I would say that the gap between top FBS teams and us is greater than the gap between us and Elon University. I don't have any illusions about this team.

But at the same time, let's not hyperbolize and claim that after a couple of bad plays that there is no gap between the two teams (though, boo, we just gave up a touchdown).

BC, how could you possibly know we were the better team if you weren't in the stadium? :) I think your posts on this thread are detracting from the enjoyment some get from hating on every aspect of our program.

I do agree with those who say this was not a very impressive win, especially the first half. Nice to see the running game get going late, but against this competition that should happen from the outset.

This was a lot more fun than the prior two weeks but didn't increase my confidence level. We need to make a game of NC State next week.

Cal looking like us against Wake right now so there's that.

14-0 at the half. Totally uninspired football. At least the 2nd half, well, the 3rd quarter was a bit better. Would have been nice to see some of the other QBs get a shot to play in front of the home crowd (okay, it wasn't a crowd). Surprised that Warren played into the 4th.

At least the game wasn't on nationally. . . .
