Teevens didn't win all that much at Maine and Dartmouth (first go 'round).
He was 13-9 at Maine, 5-7 in conference (2 years).
He was 26-22-2 at Dartmouth, but won the Ivy his last two years.
(Now his overall Dartmouth record is 92-157-2).
He may not be completely without coaching skills, but appeared to have significant gaps in his football acumen. There were all sorts of stories about Stanford not having many basic concepts as part of the offense, though the only one I can remember right now is the lack of a "hot route/receiver" as even a concept. Perhaps this was all made up because the team was losing, but it fit an impression he gave of not being heavy on football knowledge.
Then again, even in the Ivies you need to know the basics. So his moderate success there does seem to throw up some question to the image.

I assume you mean thought possible for Teevens rather than possible for Dartmouth.
It took a long time for Buddy to get to those three winning seasons in four, he went 9-41 his first five seasons back at Dartmouth. Maybe he has become a much better coach now. I rather hope so. While a little grating with his happy-talk, I rather liked the guy outside of my unhappiness with all the losing; and he certainly was more likeable than Wlat.

He was a QB in college. He had a long career as an offensive assistant, then a career as a head coach, and for three years he was an offensive assistant on Steve Spurrier's staff at Florida, including assistant offensive coordinator the year before he got to Stanford. Spurrier is no offensive slouch. Florida won the SEC East, the Orange Bowl (by 33 points) and had a #3 ranking the year Teevens was asst. OC. Florida scored 538 points that year and averaged 44.8 points per game, leading the SEC...the
next most was Miami at 30.8. Florida
then dropped to 336 the next season.Â
Look, I get that Teevens doesn't get credit, that it was Spurrier's team...but how was it possible that Teevens couldn't pick up basic concepts? How could he suck so badly at Stanford?

I work with a guy who played at Dartmouth for Teevens. His thoughts on Buddy - really nice guy, clueless coach. He played during the first couple of years of Buddy's second stint at Dartmouth.

I can't believe that these two losers are generating this much conversation...they both sucked, and together they were responsible for the worst 5 years of Stanford football in the last 50 years. Last time Stanford was worse than 16-40 over a 5-year stretch was 1958-1962.
Back to the subject - Dawkins. I'm curious what people think the basketball team's record will be this year - in conference and overall. I predict 15-14 overall, 7-11 in conference.
