Coach Fuller flipped the 1s and 2s for Saturday.
Maybe just trying to give the freshman/sophomore duo (Jackson/Rockwell) some tougher competition?
Or maybe that's really where they stand at this point.

And Indigo Clarke swapped in for Gusarova on the 5s for the early match.

Alumna Xolani Hodel is playing in the FIVB "Challenger" event in Mexico, with Madison Shields.
They won two qualifier matches to get to the main draw.  They went 1-1 in modified pool play to advance to the elimination round.
Unfortunately, their first round match is vs. the #1 seed from Brazil, this afternoon.

In the rain, ending about 9:25pm local time, after a lightning delay.

I was traveling yesterday, just watched a little bit of the FSU matches.  Played to decision, but needed all five matches.  Bell & Gusarova at the 4s got the final point. They lost their first set, won the second and third (in extra points).

Continuing to tweak the line-up.  They play host LSU now (8:30am PDT Saturday) after another lightning delay and then are done for the weekend.

They keep coming close against the top three teams; hope they can find a way to win those by the end of the season.

This weekend Stanford beat #7, #8, and #11.   Stanford beat LSU 3-0. The remaining two matches were cancelled due to inclement weather so there was three, not five matches played to conclusion.

This weekend LSU beat #4 USC and #9 Long Beach State. I think those results should be enough for Stanford to move up to #4.

Stanford #4 and USC #7.   Stanford plays USC again on Friday in Laguna Beach.  I might check it out.  Nice beach and parking shouldn't be too much of a problem on Friday.  Is it possible Stanford could play USC four times this season?

A pretty easy win under breezy conditions.  Former indoor player and beach coach Sara Dukes Johnson was there as honorary captain.

I thought Babi Gubbins was doing a better job of getting up out of the sand (leaping, blocking) than the first time I saw her play several weeks ago.  Despite some kind of brace/bandage on her right knee.

Friday and Saturday they play in the "Best of the West" event at Laguna Beach, hosted by LBSU.  Hoping they can beat USC (#7) and the rest (LBSU, UNF and UW).

Stanford loses to USC 4-1.  The 1 and 2 team had close three set matches but not quite enough to win.

I was going to watch this game today in Laguna Beach but instead chose to watch the stock market crash on the TV financial channels. Every time I thought it might start going up it went farther down.

Also today #2 UCLA lost to Cal Poly and #3 LMU lost to Stetson.

Stanford (and USC) alumna Sunny Villapando is now representing the Philippines (her father's home country) in beach volleyball.
She and partner Jenny Gaviola were in the qualifier of the FIVB "Futures" event in Songkhla, Thailand.  They beat a Thai team, but fell to a Romanian pair.
