In case you didn't know, here's why that's a painful memory for Giants fans:
1993 was a magical season, in part because it almost didn't happen. During the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the first non-boycotted Games in decades and featuring the Dream Team, only one local sports story could top the Olympics. Owner Bob Lurie finally had it in trying to get a new ballpark, and announced that he officially sold the team to an owner group in Tampa Bay. it was done, over, or so we thought. But there was chipping away at the deal, with Peter Magowan's group getting together and then Fay Vincent stepping in with his ruling that this relocation was "not in the best interests of baseball."
Magowan and his group changed the culture from top to bottom, with the signing of Barry Bonds, the hiring of Dusty Baker (his first managerial job), and putting in the bleacher seats right behind the left field fence. The team spent nearly the entire season in first, and was cruising. And I can tell you the point where things changed. It was right after Robby Thompson hit a walk off two run homer to beat the Marlins on Aug 23 and put the Giants 7.5 games up on second place Atlanta, who was arriving for a three game series the next day. As long as the G-men won one - just one - game, the Braves would have little hope. But the Giants were swept, badly, and the race was on. The two teams were tied on the last day. Dusty went with Torres, who was a rookie called up earlier in the summer. Fans wondered if he could handle the pressure at Chavez Ravine. The final score was 12-1.
And don't mention 1987 NLCS and Atlee Hammaker, please ....

Half a day at a time. 6-1 win at Wrigley today with Belt and Longoria accounting for 5 RBI in the last 3 innings.
3 game lead for now. Let’s see what happens in LA tonight. Go Padres!

I believe that was Frank Linzy and Jerry Johnson not Monzanto and Gomez (but I could be wrong)…..

The modern record for single season turnaround is 35 games (Arizona won 65 in 1998 and 100 in 1999).
Unfortunately, this year’s turnaround can only be measured in win percentage since the number of games played is significantly different from ‘20 to ‘21. Using win percentage, Arizona’s improvement was .216 (.401 to .617). For SF to exceed that figure, they would have to win 114 games this year (from .483 in 2020 to .704 in 2021, an improvement of .221). Given the fact they have already lost 50 games, that isn’t possible.

I had actually meant the turnaround between the 1992 Giants (72-90) and the 93 Giants (103-59), a 31 game turnaround. Thanks for answering my question anyways; looks like the 93 Giants were close to the record but it is still not quite a 35 game turnaround.

Prior to the season I posted that Belt was going to have a good year, get a big contract (Giants or somebody else) and totally tank in 2022.
Now I’m waffling. He is an excellent defensive player. He apparently has gained respect in the clubhouse. He has had some extremely important hits and RBI this year.
They might offer two years but I think he would settle for three. So will be interesting.

If I'm looking at it right, there've been only 2 times this season where the Giants had a losing L10 record, 6/27-7/7 and 8/27-9/5 (and maybe an extra day or so around those ranges).

Giants now three in front of the Dodgers for the division lead, the National League's best record and...oh yeah...MLB's best record. The magic number for the Giants to clinch at least a playoff wild card is now one (1).
49ers scored the most points in the NFL this opening weekend (so far) with 41. Which they had early in the 4th quarter, then they took the foot off the gas, Kittle fumbled an onside kick, Deebo Samuel fumbled a pass reception, and it was a nail biter until the final gun. 41-33 win. Eli Mitchell rushed 19 times for 104 yards, Mostert 2 times for 20 yards then came off the fireld. Deebo Samuel, 9 receptions for 189 yards, George Kittle 4 receptions for 78 yards. Niners intercepted Goff three times, one for a picksix (Greenlaw).
Garoppolo was 17 of 25 for 314 yards and a TD, no INTs (he had a fumble). His QBR is 4th in the NFL right now (out of 14 reported ratings). Trevor Laurence, last at #14.
