Not me, man. Called it a bogus deal from the get-go. I would have liked to have Judge, for sure...but Correa -- now batting .216 with a career low .703 OPS -- was a bad idea from the start. I'm guessing the Twins' fans aren't too happy.
Giants won again today, 7-6, Matos hit his first HR, Pederson and Sabol had two hits each, Rogers (4-2) got the win, Doval got the save. Luke Jackson had to depart with back tightness. Giants now 44-33, 11 games over .500 and just 1.5 back of the D'Backs. 34,243 attendance today. Arizona was favored, incidentally, -120.

Only problem with recent success--Doval's arm might fall off. Happy for Matos as he was having trouble at the plate. He does make fielding look amazingly easy, however.

The result when the Giants last played each of their division foes:
Rockies: Won 3/3
Dodgers: Won 3/3
Padres: Won 3/4
D-Backs: Won 2/2
The Giants have won 11 of their last 12 games against their division opponents. I think this means they are a threat to win the division, not just make the Wild Card. But the top three teams all look capable of winning the division and like strong bets for a playoff berth. The Giants and Dodgers are both 6 games up from the 4th team in Wild Card chase.

After the game, Kapler credited Whiting for the call. "It was a of immense proportions moment for us. We know good information can get to the dugout from a number of different sources. It's really impressive Brant Whiting was on his game because I don't know if there's a bigger moment in the game than the phone ringing right there. Obviously, Yaz's homer. But that was kind of a big deal."
Second, the Giants are 25-15 since May 2 with a +49 run differential. That's tied for the most wins in MLB and the best run differential in the National League during the past six weeks..
We should know more about this team after next 10: 3 in LA, then home for 4 vs Pads and 3 vs DBacks
What did we learn? IMO, the offense and defense are good enough to challenge for a playoff spot. However, the Giants need to find some help to supplement Webb and Cobb. Given the dearth of realistic trade options, help will have to come from within the organization.

Good enough to challenge for the division. But you are right, they need at least one more starter. 2 out of 5 being bullpen games is one too many. Thing is, everyone else needs starting pitching.

Stripling will be back on Tuesday. It would be a major plus if he could eat some innings…..
Note: For the three weeks ending yesterday, Luciano hit .311 with five HRs. Finally, he appears to be over his back problems. Also, Whisenhunt and Harrison have been selected to participate in the Futures All-Star game.

What a disastrous trip to Toronto. Webb gave up as many runs (5) in the first inning of Game 2 as the Giants scored in 27 innings of the whole series. It’s a miracle they weren’t swept.
Just when you thought the starting pitching was the big weakness, the offense completely disappears. That’s concerning. It seems Casey Schmitt is struggling since being hit on arm just like Pete Alonso did and has since returning. It looks like Yaz is being missed in a very big way. He won’t return this weekend at Mets, and Conforto is iffy, though he will want nothing more than to be in lineup against his former team.
In short, the Giants looked nothing like a playoff contender in Toronto. Hopefully they can get back on track against the struggling Metropolitans this weekend in New York.

They won 10 straight on the road. Losing a series to a good Toronto team is not anything to worry about. They faced good pitching.
The injuries are an issue. But they are for most teams. And this is an older team. Agree Yaz was a big loss. He was playing so well.
Schmitt is healthy. He’s also in an 8-59 funk, is playing sporadically and is trying to find the right point between aggressive and chasing. Not easy to do at MLB level. Personally, I don’t think it helps him to sit on the bench and spot start. Villar can do that. Right now, I think Schmitt is thinking too much. I’d think about sending him down for a short while to work on his approach in a less pressurized environment. He has to be more selectively aggressive. Give him that charge, send him down and bring him back when he’s worked it out a bit.

I'm sorry, do the Giants not lead MLB in errors? The stats I see show the Giants with 61 and next highest team with 55. They also lead with .74 errors per game. The next closest is .66 per game.
Did you think the Lamont Wade throw wasn't ugly? There were other misplays that weren't errors but still not good defense.
Matos and Sabol did make some nice catches. Who knows what would have happened if Marte stole 2nd, but Bailey's throw was perfect.
The Bailey 3-run HR will get all the headlines, but the JD Davis walk was damn impressive. It was a very tough 3-2 pitch to take off a very good reliever in David Robertson*, who Mets broadcaster said hadn't allowed a 3-run+ HR since 2018. Of course, the door was opened by the Mets committing their own error in the 8th.
If Bailey didn't hit the game winning HR, the defense would have cost the Giants their 3rd L in a row.
*Robertson will be coveted at trade deadline when the Mets are selling. He's 38 yo and to be a Free Agent after this year.

The Giants' poor fielding is a thing. They're 5th in FIP in MLB, but 9th in ERA and 12th in runs allowed per game. The Giants have given up 37 unearned runs, T3 most in baseball. Only two worse are the Dodgers and Pirates at 38. Giants Rtot is 25th in baseball.
