Yes, and a late bloomer with a high ceiling in volleyball.
Quote from article:
"Zaria Queen will graduate early and be on campus at Stanford in January. Her older sister, Azana, graduated from Stanford with a degree in astrophysics this year...".

And her sister just graduated from Stanford with a degree in Astrophysics.

Louisville vs Pitt in National Semi is a great match. Both teams are very impressive.
Louisville came back from 23 to 20 in the 3rd set and survived several set points to win and are up 2 sets to 1 vs the #1 Seed Pitt
Anna DeBeer, Louisville’s captain and star just badly injured her ankle at the start of set 4. It has energized their team and they’re up 9 to 3 vs Pitt. I think we now want Pitt to win because they have the best chance of beating Nebraska or Penn St. Update. Anna is back but cannot see her playing at her best given how has that injury looked

Wow! Without Anna DeBeer, Louisville crushes Pitt in the 4th and final set 25 to 17 to move into the Finals

Nebraska/Penn State game will start around 9:40 pm Eastern time; possibly not finish until after midnight Eastern time.

I only tuned in during the 4th set. Why was DeBeer out?

they showed a replay on the post match show. She landed on a teammates shoe and her right ankle twisted all the way to the side. Helped back to locker room. Returned but did not play. It was severe.

Hometown advantage. The ESPN coverage of the match with Stanford was disgustingly biased: WE LOVE DeBEER! I say this as someone who watched it twice.

Penn State did a reverse sweep over Nebraska, ending at 12:45AM Eastern.
I tuned in late in the 2nd set. So, I saw all 3 set wins by Penn State. Granted, Nebraska had two match points in set 3, but the cameras never focused on the Penn State supporters (until the players went over to them after the win, at which point they were shown in the background), but they repeatedly focused on the Nebraska supporters and their signs.
It's a business. The TV producers don't have a sense of fairness. That's not in some business rule.
Oh, the two women who did the post-set-2 show... the one in the white outfit was in the background occasionally (on one end, center, next to the Nebraska cheerleaders) but she
always had her backside to the court.

One point of clarification from someone who attended the semis in person: there were very few Penn St fans. Essentially the arena was filled with Louisville and Nebraska fans. So coverage probably also reflected that reality. We had one Pitt fan in our section 102 - and our section more diverse that the rest bcs it consisted of coaches nationally and their guests. Also, many of the fans left after N took the second set as it seemed impossible for Penn St to overcome that deficit given their level of play at the time.

Wow, it probably shouldn't be surprising to me as Penn State beat Nebraska during the season and only has two losses. But I felt like this year was either Pitt or Nebraska's year to win it all. Both programs have been so close it recent years.

For years VB fans were saying University of Florida's team would be the first to win a NC with a woman head coach. It didn't happen. Off the top of my head I can't recall a team with a female head coach winning a NC. That will change on Sunday.
Lots of players swirling around in the transfer portal. Will Hambly pursue any of them for 2025? IMO the one position Stanford could use an experienced top-level player is MB.

Well we are at 18 for 2026 so it would have to be a grad transfer
18 will be the limit

Yes. Or, I just realized, it could be a junior with just one year of eligibility left....
Would Stanford admit such a student?
Is there some rule about requiring a minimum of two years at Stanford to get a Stanford bachelor's degree?

I haven't looked into this recently. As I understand it for fall 2026 Stanford is limited to a 18 player roster size but can give all 18 players a full scholarship if they choose to do so and the financial resources are available. Is that correct?
I also heard there may be changes to those NCAA rules between now and fall 2026.

The 18 has not yet been approved by the House of Representatives
However Hambly at the Reception confirm 4 2026 commits so that would be 18

If only Louisville had played as poorly as they did today when they played us. Poor setting in large part to abysmal service reception. Here in person.

Thanks for the report.
That second set was something!
A shame about DeBeer. ACC still waiting for its first VB championship.

Erika Sayer (6'2" MB, 2025) led her high school team to a Colorado state title in the school's first year of having a VB team.

"In her lone season with Village’s volleyball team, the Mountaineer senior led the team in total blocks, serving aces, kills and hitting percentage. Sayer’s .499 hitting percentage was third in Colorado."
Since I can't find a golf thread I'll add it here. I read Tiger Woods' daughter has been admitted to Stanford and plans to come here fall 2025. How good is she at golf? My guess is she will be a student and not play any varsity sports. If she did play a sport she probably wouldn't need any NIL money.
