Well, Greg Maddux liked to urinate on people in the shower, that probably wouldn't have gone over too well if he wasn't winning 355 games.
Player #1 was a genuine star (six times in the top-10 in MVP voting, three times in the top-3) but he never made it to five complete seasons with any of the many teams he played for, strange career.

I screwed up this question, so I am going to retract it. After you answered I looked it up and realized that there were several non-hall of famers in that first all star game (1932). I had always heard the question being related to Wally Berger and it appears it was the 1934 game which featured 17 future hall of famers in the starting lineup as well as Berger. My bad.

Orlando Cepeda... .297, 379
Perez played 23 years, Cepeda 17 to compile the HR numbers. I loved Cepeda when the Giants moved in '58 but I think he and Perez belong in the Hall of Very Good, not the BHOF. If they are in Berger should be in.

I would not have voted for either Perez or Cepeda. Berger was clearly a superior player but he only played 1,350 career games (only eight seasons with over 100 games played, including a 115 game season). He was a no-doubt hall of famer through his first seven seasons but suffered a shoulder injury at age 30 that effectively ended his career.
Even though I got the year wrong I like the trivia question because Berger is one of those players who were genuinely great but due to an unfortunate injury ended up mostly forgotten. Cecil Travis is another one, whose circumstances were much more unfortunate.

Man, I had no idea. Carney Lansford popped into my head, but i don't know the Little League trivia.

The only little league superstar I knew about was Lloyd McClendon, but I figured he was too late to have been the first major leaguer. But he was a little league legend.
