Stowell & Hamlett advance to the finals, where they meet #1 seed Newberry/Whitmarsh, who knocked Belardi & Myszkowski into the 3rd place match.  Both the 3rd place match and championship are scheduled for 1pm.

Jackson/Zaengle lose 2-1 in the U21 trials, finish second.

Stowell/Hamlett lose 2-1 in the Norceca qualifier, finish second.

Belardi/Myszkowski won 2-1 in the Norceca qualifier and take third.

One of the top 2027 recruits, Thais Treumann, remains uncommitted.
She does follow a lot fo the Stanford players and alumnae on IG, though other schools, too.

Photographer Jim Wolf posted some pix of Stanford players at the Best of the West tournament in April:

The AVP has an open event in Virginia Beach this weekend.  Ruby Cochrane ('26) (with Jada Souza) lost in the first round of the qualifier yesterday. Belardi and Bell had a first round bye and won their second round qualifier match to make the main draw.  They went 1-1 in pool play, and then lost their first match in the elimination bracket (so tied for 9th).
[Thais Treumann (uncommitted 2027, who I hope might be a Stanford recruit) was seeded #5 and has made it to the quarterfinals (with Sarah Wood).]

Santa Monica is hosting a CBVA Open today.  Olga Nikolaeva ('26) (with Emma Champagne) was seeded #13, ended tied for 3rd.  Clara Stowell (with Tanon Rosnethal) was seeded #1 but finished tied for 9th.  And Kate Oerlemans ('27) apparently made her CBVA debut with Jo-Jo Wilson ('27), who has a AAA rating.  They went 0-3 in pool and tied for 25th.

Ruby Cochrane ('26) and Sophie Hancock will be representing Canada in the FIVB U18 competition.  I believe they will be playing in a Norceca soon.

And finally, Xolani Hodel was entered in a FIVB event in Poland, but:  "Deahna Kraft and Xolani Hodel pulled out 10 minutes before their flight boarded because of a last-minute partner swap".  No news yet on the new partnership.

ETA: Forgot about the FIVB Futures event in Geneva.  Recent grad Taylor Wilson (playing with Natalie Myszkowski) won a qualifier match, but went 0-2 in pool play.  They ended tied for 13th and won 100 euros.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-04-2025

Another busy weekend.  Stanford's Ruby Sorra and Ofure Odigie are representing Canada in the Norceca U21 tournament in the Dominican Republic.  This event serves as a qualifier for the U21 World Championship.  Sorra & Odigie didn't lose a set in pool play and will be in the quarterfinals tomorrow (if I'm reading this right).

In the qualifier for the Denver AVP event, Belardi & Bell went 2-0 to move into the main draw tomorrow.  They may meet up with Avery Jackson, who has paired with AVP veteran Geena Urango to be seeded 5th.  Alumna Kate Reilly is also in the main draw, with another recent college grad, Ella Connor.

ETA: The three Stanford-affiliated teams are in different pools.

And most of the matches should be streamed on: https://nspn.tv/CHSAA

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-05-2025

Sorra/Odigie advance to tomorrow's semifinals against the Americans Henson/Wood in the Norceca U21.
(As soon as the U21 finishes, a U18 tournament starts, and includes Stanford's other Canadian Ruby, Ruby Cochrane (2026)).

In Denver, Jackson/Urango went 2-0 in pool and won their first round match to advance to tomorrow's quaters.

Similarly, Belardi/Bell advanced.  I caught the third set of their elimination bracket match, which was tight.  They were down 4-6 at one side switch, but back up 8-7 at the next one.  After that, I don't think either team had more than a one-point lead, until B&B went ahead 14-12 at match point, which they won.

Reilly/Connor went 1-1 in pool, but advanced and are also in the quarters tomorrow.  If both they and B&B win, they'll meet in the semis.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-06-2025

Sorra/Odigie lost their semi in two close sets (20-22,23-25); won the bronze medal match, and qualify for the U21 World Championship. (ETA: they lost their semi to the Americans who won the Gold Medal match easily.)

In Denver:
Belardi/Bell lost in three sets, finish tied for 5th.  As did Connor/Reilly.

Jackson/Urango are playing for the  championship, down one set so far.  (Streaming on Bally Sports Live.)

ETA: Jackson/Urango were down 16-20 in the second, got six straight points to force a third set.

ETA2: And the third set ends with an Avery Jackson stuff block. Jackson & Urango win the AVP Denver Open!

I should note that several of the top teams were in Gstaad for a big FIVB tournament, so this wasn't a full field. Still, a great accomplishment.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-07-2025

Pool play today in the Norceca U18 tournament.

Ruby Cochrane (2026) and Sophie Hancock won their two matches:
21-4, 21-11 vs. Dominican Republic
21-7, 21-2 vs. Antigua

That's 84 to 24.

On to the quarterfinals tomorrow.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-08-2025

Cochrane/Hancock won their quarterfinal 21-17, 21-14.  They meet the Americans in the semis, who are the highest seeded team left (#5).  The Canadians are #9; though I'm not sure you can put much stock in these seedings.

Also worth a mention that Clara Stowell won the CBVA Santa Barbara Open over the weekend (with Erin Inskeep).

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-09-2025

Much like the U21 tournament, in the U18 the Canadians (in this case, Cochrane/Hancock) lost their semifinal to the Americans, the eventual gold medal winners.
The Canadians take bronze and qualify for the U18 World Championship tournament.

You can see one of Cochrane/Hancock pool matches here, starting at about the 40 minute mark.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-18-2025

Both Ruby Sorra and Kelly Belardi are in Belgium for an FIVB "Futures" event.  Unfortunately their respective teams (Sorra/Harnett for Canada; Belardi/Ferch for USA) met in the first round of the qualifier.  Canada prevailed, and also won their second round, so they move on to pool play tomorrow.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-19-2025

Jojo Wilson ('27 recruit) won a gold medal at the AAU U16 (I assume) pairs championship in Hermosa Beach, with one of her Wave VB Club teammates.

And Sorra/Harnett go 0-2 in pool and are eliminated. Seeded 13, they end tied for 13th.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-23-2025

Simrin Adams (Stanford 2027 recruit) playing with Sandie Souza (UCLA recruit) won the AVP America 16U National Championship.

Thalia Lindahl (Stanford 2027), Ruby Cochrane (2026) and Olga Nikolaeva (2026) all took 9ths in the 18U tournament.

Here are the rosters:

Girls U18 has four Stanford recruits, including Simone Roslon, who is an indoor recruit.
Only one on the U17 roster.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-27-2025

Incoming freshman Mikki Carlin won the CBVA Manhattan Beach Open yesterday, playing with Adelina Okazaki (UCLA rising soph.).

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 07-31-2025

Rising junior Clara Stowell and recent alumna Kate Reilly teamed up for a USAV NORCECA qualifier in Manhattan Beach.  There were only 8 teams of each gender.  Stowell & Reilly (#3 seed) won their first two matches, but lost the championship to the #1 seed.

Based on an IG story, it looks like Katelyn Oerlemans (Stanford '27) is training with the Dutch U18 beach team.
